MPs to allocate funds for Civil Defence uniforms from next year, says DPM Zahid
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the move is aimed at strengthening the uniformed force and encouraging more participation.
'All ministry staff are also encouraged to join APM,' he told reporters after officiating the 16th National Civil Defence Student Corps (Kor SISPA) Graduation Parade and Commissioning Ceremony 2025 at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) here today.
The ceremony was graced by Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin. Also present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir and APM Chief Commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed.
At the event, 24 officers representing various institutions of higher learning received the Best SISPA Cadet Officer Award, while a special award, the Chief Commissioner's Premier Trophy (Best Among the Best), was also presented. A total of 918 students were commissioned as Second Lieutenants (Civil Defence).
Ahmad Zahid stressed that civil defence serves as the nation's second line of defence after the military and police. The training, he said, builds spirit, instils discipline, and enhances the resilience of its members. — Bernama

PASIR SALAK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has advised all political leaders to distinguish between legal and political matters to preserve harmony within the unity government. Arrest of military officers over smuggling racket tarnishes country's image, says Zahid
PASIR SALAK: The security of the country remains intact despite the recent arrest of five military officers for their suspected involvement in a smuggling racket, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. The arrest of the five officers from the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO), Zahid said, although damaging the nation's image, should serve as a strong warning to all enforcement agencies to avoid such misconduct. " It (security) is not compromised, but the (country's) image has been tarnished. "This must be avoided and fully understood by them," Zahid said in his speech after launching the Santunan Desa programme here today. Present were Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang and Community Development Department (KEMAS) Director-General Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man. Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said he supported the action taken against the suspects as announced by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin. "It is not just about being an informant but being directly involved. If this is indeed the case, it must be stopped because it concerns the image of the armed forces. "More so for those of us in positions of trust, we must act responsibly and not use rank, position, or authority in a defence or security force to engage in unlawful activities," he said. It was reported that the five military officers and five civilians were recently arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) during an operation to dismantle a drug and contraband smuggling syndicate involving senior armed forces officers in the southern region.

DPM Fadillah urges calm, says early investigation lapses in Zara Qairina case addressed
KUCHING, Aug 17 — The negligence in the initial investigation over Zara Qairina Mahathir's case in Sabah has been addressed, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has assured. According to him, the process after this is further investigation on whether or not any individuals will be charged. 'As Malaysians, let's just leave the matter to the police, and legal action will be taken accordingly. 'Let's not resort to creating negative sentiments that can destroy the peace of our country,' he said when met by reporters after attending a function at Jalan Sultan Tengah here yesterday. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, on July 17, a day after she was found unconscious in a drain near here school hostel at around 4am. Adding on, Fadillah expressed hope that everyone would continue to show respect for the nation's judiciary system, policing system and the integrity of the health system. 'This is not the time for people to politicise this issue — an act that may jeopardise the prevailing harmony. 'Allow time for the authorities to investigate transparently until a decision is made. 'If there is indeed an injustice involved, we will see to it that a fairer and more transparent action be taken. 'Right now, let this matter take its course since investigations are underway,' he said. The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), on August 8, announced that the girl's body would be exhumed to allow post-mortem to be conducted, stating that further investigations by the police were necessary to ensure that all aspects of the case would be thoroughly examined. — The Borneo Post
