NEW YORK (AP) — Carlos Narvaez put Boston ahead with a three-run homer against his former team, and the Red Sox overcame two home runs by Aaron Judge in an 11-7 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday night.
Rafael Devers also went deep as Boston equaled a season high with five longballs to take two of three games at Yankee Stadium in the first series this season between the longtime rivals.
Narváez signed with the Yankees in 2015 and broke into the big leagues with them last year, getting into six games before New York traded him to Boston in December. The rookie catcher gave the Red Sox a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning by lifting a fastball from Carlos Rodon (8-4) into the left-field seats.
Judge hit a pair of two-run homers for his fourth multihomer game this season and the 43rd of his career. He connected in the first off rookie Hunter Dobbins (3-1) and again in the ninth, ending the night with a .396 batting average.
Boston rookie Kristian Campbell hit a two-run homer to the short porch in right field off Rodón in the fifth. Abraham Toro and Trevor Story hit back-to-back solo shots in the eighth off Jonathan Loaisiga.
Jarren Duran had a two-run single off Yankees reliever Tim Hill in the sixth. Toro added an RBI double in the ninth.
Dobbins allowed three runs and four hits in five innings. A day after telling the Boston Herald, 'If the Yankees were the last team to give me a contract, I'd retire,' Dobbins heard little reaction from the crowd of 45,140.
DJ LeMahieu homered in the fifth to give New York a 3-2 lead.
Rodón permitted five runs and three hits in five-plus innings. The left-hander lost for the first time in eight decisions since April 13. Key moments
Garrett Whitlock retired LeMahieu on a bases-loaded grounder to end the sixth after the Yankees had cut it to 7-5. … Aroldis Chapman, the seventh Boston reliever, fanned Anthony Volpe with two on for his 11th save. Key stats
Boston scored 27 runs in the series. … Loáisiga has allowed four homers in nine appearances since returning from elbow surgery. Up next
Red Sox RHP Brayan Bello (2-1, 3.91 ERA) opens a three-game series in Boston against Tampa Bay RHP Shane Baz (5-3, 4.96) on Monday night.
Yankees LHP Max Fried (8-1, 1.78 ERA) opposes rookie LHP Noah Cameron (2-1, 0.85) in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday at Kansas City.

Shams Charania Drops New Celtics Trade Update on Wednesday

Shams Charania Drops New Celtics Trade Update on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shams Charania of ESPN was on the "Pat McAfee Show" on Wednesday and the NBA insider dropped some new trade intel on the Boston Celtics. Advertisement The Celtics have to make trades this offseason to avoid having the most expensive roster in the NBA next season. Boston is focused on potentially trading Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis or Sam Hauser, but Charania added that teams are making big offers for Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. "The primary focus, from my understanding, with the Celtics' offseason has been Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Sam Hauser," Charania said. "Their trade markets. However, now are teams making big offers and calling about Jaylen Brown and Derrick White? One hundred percent." "The Celtics prefer not to trade them, from my understanding, but listen, if they get a big offer, they have to look at everything. And I think they're going to get, you know, offers on the three guys that they're focused on. They're going to get offers potentially on Derrick White and Jaylen Brown." He continued. Advertisement "And I think between now and the draft and free agency, they're going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective." Boston's roster could look very different next season. © David Butler II-Imagn Images Jayson Tatum is expected to miss all of next season recovering from his right Achilles tendon tear. The Celtics, who were sold for $6 billion, are a second apron team. Boston won the championship last year against the Dallas Mavericks but lost to the New York Knicks in this year's conference semifinals in six games. Tatum tore his right Achilles tendon in Game 4. According to Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports, the Celtics are open to trading anybody on the roster except Tatum. Red Sox pitcher Hunter Dobbins defends making discrepancies about his father playing for Yankees

Associated Press BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox rookie Hunter Dobbins made some headlines prior to his first career start against the Yankees last week when he said he'd retire before pitching for New York. Now he's explaining why the claims he made about his father once playing for Boston's longtime rivals aren't the intentional fabrication that a New York Post report says they were. Hunter Dobbins said Wednesday he was made aware of the Post story, but said there is nothing nefarious about the connections he said his father had to the Yankees. 'My feelings and all that are based on my personal experiences and nothing to do with growing up or family,' Dobbins said. 'The whole backstory is stuff I heard growing up and seen pictures of from my dad. At the end of my day it's just from my dad and how I kind of grew my love for the game. But at the end of the day I don't go and fact-check my dad or anything like that.' In a June 7 Boston Herald feature on Dobbins that ran the day before he allowed three runs and four hits in five innings in an 11-7 win over the Yankees, he said that his father, Lance Dobbins, had been drafted twice by the Yankees before being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The story also makes reference to Dobbins saying his father was friends with Andy Pettitte, who played 15 major league seasons with New York. But the Post report found no evidence of any of that, citing multiple official databases and the Yankees' own records that couldn't substantiate Lance Dobbins having played with the organizations. Lance Dobbins' own profile on the doesn't list any Yankees affiliation. The 2025 Red Sox Media Guide does mention him on Hunter Dobbins' biography page, but says only that Lance "pitched for 2 seasons (1996-97) in the Diamondbacks organization.' Dobbins, who is scheduled to pitch again against the Yankees on Saturday at Fenway Park said he has since spoken to his father 'a little, but not really' about the Post story that first noted the discrepancies. 'My whole focus is on Saturday and getting ready to face the Yankees," Dobbins said. "This is my first time in the big leagues facing a team for a second time, let alone back-to-back. So that's where my focus is 100%. I imagine we'll talk in the future or something like that. But it's been a bigger deal than it ever really needed to be. But at the end of the day I really just need to get ready to go for Saturday' The 25-year-old is 3-1 with a 4.20 ERA this season. He said he isn't surprised that this story has gotten the attention it has in recent days. 'This is a great rivalry," Dobbins said. "Two cities that have a long history together. Anything that's kind of in the news that goes with both of them that's going to turn into a story. It adds to the game and we just have to embrace it and keep rolling.' ___ More AP baseball: recommended

(AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill) ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Jo Adell homered in a wild six-run sixth inning and the Los Angeles Angels overcame two homers by Brent Rooker to beat the Athletics 6-5 on Wednesday and sweep a three-game series. Adell's 13th homer was his sixth in nine games. Advertisement His two-run shot capped a rally that saw Athletics starter JP Sears ejected after giving way to reliever Grant Holman (4-2) with one out. Holman walked Mike Trout on a 3-2 pitch he believed was a strike to load the bases. Holman hit Taylor Ward to bring in a run and Jorge Soler followed with a two-RBI single. That's when Sears was tossed after yelling animatedly from the dugout. Osvaldo Bido relieved Holman and Travis d'Arnaud gave the Angels the lead with a sacrifice fly. Adell followed with homer. Rooker's two-run homer in the seventh, his 15th this season, cut the Angels' lead to 6-5. He had four hits including a double. He scored three runs and drove in three. Kyle Hendricks (4-6) went six innings and gave up three runs, two earned, on seven hits. Reid Detmers pitched a perfect ninth for his second save. Advertisement The A's have lost 23 of 27 games. The Athletics' Jacob Wilson, second in the majors with a .366 average, missed his second straight game with a sore hamstring. Key moment Soler's two-run groundball single somehow evaded the Athletics' diving middle infielders to tie the game and that's when Sears, in line for a win, boiled over. Key stat The Angels swept a home series for the first time since June 24-26, 2024. That also came against the A's. Up next Luis Severino (1-6, 4.77) will pitch for the Athletics against Cole Ragans (2-3, 5.18) on Friday. The Angels' Jack Kochanowicz (3-7, 5.61) will throw against Charlie Morton (2-7, 6.59) at Baltimore on Friday. ___ AP MLB:
