Warmer temps Friday afternoon ahead of weekend storms
SALT LAKE CITY () — Happy Friday, Utah! A weak disturbance is moving through on Friday, leading to mostly cloudy skies. Look for a mix of clouds and sunshine Friday afternoon.
Moisture still lingering across the state could still produce a few pop-up showers across Utah. Temperatures will warm into the upper 60s across the Wasatch Front and low to mid-80s for SW Utah.
Saturday will feature increasing clouds and breezy conditions as our next storm system approaches the state. This system will bring increasing chances for showers and rumbles, Saturday afternoon through Sunday and Monday, along with another round of cooler temperatures!
Some areas may pick up between 1.00-2.00″ of rain across northern Utah through Tuesday! Upper-level wind energy could lead to a chance for an isolated strong to severe storm with wind gusts over 60 mph and small hail. This system will also bring dropping snow levels, so our mountains could be in line for some late-season snowfall this weekend. The best chances for this will be above 7,000-7500 FT, where several inches will be possible.
The winds will be gusty out of the southwest on Saturday, especially across SE Utah where we have a Red Flag Warning in effect for Saturday afternoon. This means no outside burning across this area. Any fires that get going would likely spread quickly between the gusty winds and low humidity.

Extreme temperatures this weekend, followed up by showers
The Grand Valley will be exceptionally hot today! Sunny skies will dominate the region today as temperatures exceed 90 degrees. Some gusty outflow winds of up to 20 miles per hour can be expected all day as well. Tonight, expect conditions to remain relatively clear with overnight lows reaching the low sixties. This week is ending with a lot of above average conditions, but tomorrow is planned to be even hotter than today, so prepare for a warm weekend!Isolated to scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected for the next few days, with decreasing day-to-day coverage. Temperatures remaining warm, peaking this weekend with highs about 10 degrees above normal for June 1. This pattern is expected to turn wetter Sunday night through Tuesday, with widespread precipitation favored. The National Weather Service still has uncertainty in amounts and location of heaviest Great Basin near Nevada has high pressure sitting over the area and ridging extending into north Canada. This ridge will gradually shift east towards the western slope by Sunday. Strong heating during the day will trap a lot of moisture higher in the region, and when it is finally able to cool down a bit in the later hours it is expected to dump all of that moisture in the form of showers. Coverage of these scattered storms today will become more isolated Saturday and Sunday. The primary threats from this convection will be lightning and strong outflow winds gusting 40 to 50 miles per hour. Temperatures today will run five to eight degrees above normal for the end of May, warming to eight to 10 degrees above normal tomorrow and peaking 10 to 12 degrees above normal showers and possibly thunderstorms for Sunday night seem more and more likely, but the main storm will occur Monday. A big pattern change is set to arrive on Monday as remnant moisture from tropical storm Alvin arrives in tandem with forcing from a low pressure system. Hail possible as strong to severe storms roll through the Carolinas ahead of nice weekend
(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Happy Friday! Unfortunately, the end of the workweek is bringing us a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day! We have to stay weather aware for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon. This morning is starting mainly quiet, but we do have some low clouds, drizzle, and areas of dense fog to start the day. Warm and muggy start as well, with temperatures in the 60s across much of the region. Temperatures will get near 80 degrees this afternoon. Storms will move into the mountains around noon Friday and advance towards Charlotte around 3 pm. The main threats from storms later that day will be damaging wind gusts and large hail. However, a brief and weak spin-up tornado can't be ruled out as the line of storms moves through. The broken line of storms should exit the Queen City News viewing area by 6 pm. Behind the main line of storms, we could see a few more isolated downpours and rumbles of thunder. Expect clearing tonight, with temperatures falling back into the 50s. This weekend will feature cool starts in the 50s and seasonable afternoons with high temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s. A few spotty showers are possible this weekend, especially along and north of I-40. Mother Nature will be turning up the heat next week, with high temperatures climbing towards the 90-degree mark by Tuesday and Wednesday. Be safe and have a great weekend!
