Kamal Haasan in heart of every Malayali: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was a rare occasion when two legends, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan and people's hero Pinarayi Vijayan, met. The occasion was the fourth anniversary of the LDF government organised by CPM-affiliated Secretariat Employees Association in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. The two shared cakes. Contrary to the usual practice of people watching a Kamal movie, this time around it was a role reversal. Kamal Haasan watched a documentary on the life of the CM- 'Pinarayi The Legend' and lauded him for his exemplary works for the state and common people.
The CM termed Kamal Haasan as an individual who has a leftist mind. 'Kamal Haasan has proved that artists have a life beyond the art. He is in the heart of every Malayali,' Pinarayi said. During his speech, Kamal Haasan said that he is following leaders like Pinarayi Vijayan who has never backtracked in fear of criticism. 'Whichever the ideology may be, we are all comrades in serving the people. The fight against injustice is my responsibility,' he said.
Earlier while inaugurating the programme, the CM said that if only the files are processed on time, the common people could get the true result of governance. 'The secretariat employees are the ones who are less corrupt. The processing of files in the secretariat has improved tremendously,' he said. The organisers had also invited actor Kamal Haasan who was in the city for the promotion of his latest film.
CM also cut a cake and gave a piece to the actor to mark the anniversary celebration of the government.
Speaking after the screening of the documentary, the CM said one is yet to know the amount of criticism the office-bearers of the organisation will have to bear from certain quarters. 'Some people will try to interpret the documentary. I have not evolved with my own ability. I am the product of my party. I could stand with the party at all times. The attack against me is because I was the symbol of the party and now the head of the government,' he added.
Pinarayi also told the organisers that in the documentary his mother's name was given wrongly. 'My mother's name is Alakkatt Kalyani. It will be a cruel act against my mother,' he said. In the documentary it is said that Pinarayi had achieved what V S Achuthanandan could not do.

Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 1: Decent start for Akshay Kumar's film, crosses ₹13 crore on opening day
Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 1: The much-awaited film, Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar and his gang released in cinema on Friday. Off to a decent start, the murder mystery has crossed ₹ 13 crore at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Housefull 5 has so far minted ₹ 13.81 crore. However, these are the real-time updates from morning and afternoon. The final figures will be out after 10 pm. If the film maintains similar momentum during the evening and night shows, its total earnings could potentially double by the end of the day. Housefull 5 had an overall 20.93% Occupancy on Friday in 2D format. The 3D format saw an occupancy of 10.76% on June 06, 2025. Cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad had the highest occupancy with the highest number of screenings for the film in all formats. Following closely is Pune, Bengaluru and Surat on the list. Overall, the film has done better business than expected. Going by its advance sales booking, the film was set to premiere with ₹ ₹ 6.87 crore gross earnings (including the blocked seats). Housefull 5 is clashing with the Hindi version of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life which was released a day ahead of Housefull 6. Thug Life, however, has received an underwhelming response. On the other hand, both the films are also clashing with Maddock Films' Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. Kamal Haasan files nomination for Rajya Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu
Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president and actor Kamal Haasan on Friday filed his nomination papers to contest the biennial Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for June 19 from Tamil submitted the papers at the State Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and senior leaders from his party. He signed and handed over the nomination documents to election officials, marking his formal entry into the upcoming upper house move follows a brief delay in the nomination process. Haasan had initially been expected to file his papers earlier but deferred it, reportedly on the advice of party insiders who suggested the timing may not be ideal due to the backlash he faced for a controversial comment on the origins of Kannada. At a recent promotional event for his upcoming film Thug Life in Chennai, Haasan had remarked that 'Kannada is born out of Tamil', prompting widespread criticism from pro-Kannada groups. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce subsequently halted the release and screening of the film in the state, following protests and calls for a boycott. Haasan refused to apologise, maintaining that his comment had been taken out of context. He later told the Karnataka High Court that he would not release the film in the state, though he continued to defend his Rajya Sabha nomination comes under an electoral pact with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which had promised him a seat in the upper house in exchange for his party's support to the DMK-led alliance during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
