, rolled-out the 'FASTag Annual Pass' facility from 15th August 2025 at about 1,150
toll plazas
on National Highways and Expressways across the country,

said in a statement issued on Friday.
'The annual pass has received an overwhelming response from the national highway users. On the first day of implementation, around 1.39 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plazas,' it said, adding around 20,000 – 25,000 concurrent users are using

at any point of time and annual pass users are receiving SMS messages for zero deduction of toll fee.
The FASTag Annual Pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through one-time fee payment of Rs 3,000 for one year validity or 200 toll plaza crossings.
It is applicable for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag and gets activated within two hours of the one-time fee payment.
To facilitate the use of the annual toll pass, NHAI officials and nodal officers have been appointed on each toll plaza to ensure a smooth travel experience for the pass users.
Besides, NHAI is addressing queries of the pass users through various channels and has strengthened 1033 National Highway helpline.
The government is of the view that the introduction of the annual pass facility will not only enhance the FASTag user experience but will also make journeys on the national highways and expressways more economical and seamless

of around 98% and over 80 million users, FASTag has revolutionized the
electronic toll collection
system in the country.

Indian Railways Freight Services: Indian Railways (IR) plays a crucial role in transporting bulk commodities which are essential for industry and energy sectors, food grains for national distribution, fertilizers for agriculture, and petroleum products. For long distances, rail transport has been more economical than road transport. It not only reduces overall logistics cost but also enables seamless supply chains across the country. Now, in a bid to boost the logistics sector, the Ministry of Railways is planning to introduce a Gati Shakti Freight train. This new semi-high-speed train will be manufactured at Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF). 'ICF is planning to introduce Gati Shakti Freight EMU, a semi-high-speed train for e-commerce and FMCG logistics, equipped with advanced container handling systems and crew amenities,' said U Subba Rao, General Manager of ICF, on Friday while addressing the gathering on the occasion of India's 79th Independence Day. The national transporter carries over 1.6 billon tonnes of freight traffic every year. Transporting freight by rail helps cut carbon emissions, lowers fuel costs and eases highway congestion. The freight carried by railways during 2020-21 was 1,233 million tonnes which increased to 1,591 million tonnes during 2023-24 i.e. a growth of 29 per cent. The railways has taken up construction of two Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) – Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) from Ludhiana to Sonnagar (1337 Km) and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) to Dadri (1506 Km). Out of total 2,843 Km, 2741 Route km (96.4%) have been commissioned and operational, which – carried 1,30,116 freight trains during FY 2024-25. In a written statement in Lok Sabha on July 23, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said: 'Indian Railways is working on increasing the capacity of its network through Corridors approach. Corridors like HDN (High Traffic Density), Energy, Minerals and Cement are being implemented on priority.'

Indian tricolour hoisted atop Seattle's iconic Space Needle in historic first
The Indian tricolour was hoisted at Seattle's iconic 605-feet-tall Space Needle on India's 79th Independence Day, the first time that a foreign nation's flag was raised at the popular American destination. Consul General of India in Seattle Prakash Gupta along with Mayor of Seattle Bruce Harrell and other select dignitaries from the Seattle city leadership joined the historic and landmark occasion. "No greater honour than this ! Raising the Tiranga on top of Seattle skyline at Space Needle," Mr. Gupta said in a post on X, along with a video of the tricolour flying high atop the iconic Seattle monument with sprawling views of the city below. Calling the commemoration a "historic first in Seattle", the Consulate General of India in Seattle said the celebration underscored the contributions of the Indian-American diaspora in shaping the city's journey as a tech hub in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Later, a community reception was hosted by the Consulate at the scenic Kerry Park, with India's flag on top of the Space Needle in the backdrop. A large number of Indian-American community members turned up to witness the historic sight, the Consulate said in a press release. The reception was attended by several dignitaries including US Congressman Adam Smith, Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court Debra Stephens, Seattle Port Commissioner Sam Cho and Superintendent/Director of Seattle Parks and Recreation AP Diaz. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Smith welcomed the historic celebration, noting that the Indian tricolour's hoisting atop the Space Needle is a tribute to the region's diversity and the strong bonds between India and the Pacific Northwest. The Space Needle, which was built in 1962, stands as a symbol of Seattle's skyline and epitomises the U.S. Pacific Northwest region's tech-driven future. In a special gesture to honour India's Independence Day in the Greater Seattle area, King County, which covers 39 cities, along with Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Bellevue, issued official proclamations marking August 15 as India Day. Separately, several iconic buildings across Seattle were also lit up in the Indian tricolours. These included the Lumen Stadium, T-Mobile Stadium, Westin, Seattle Great Wheel and Space Needle. The Indian flag was also hoisted at the prestigious Tacoma Dome, Tacoma City Hall and at the Headquarters of Tacoma Police and Fire Departments, the Consulate said. A vibrant cultural extravaganza featuring national anthems, along with dance performances showcasing the rich diversity of Indian art forms as well as a poetic recital by renowned artist and actor Piyush Mishra also enthralled those attending the special celebrations.
