The 19-year-old girlfriend of one of the twins, believed to be of Polish origin but living in the UK, also died. The other driver – 36-year-old Ruben Goncalves from Almodovar – was killed instantly. Local reports said he worked at the Neves-Corvo zinc-copper mine and had a four-year-old son. The family were travelling north from the Algarve towards Mourao, in the district of Evora near the Spanish border, for a holiday. Police sources said the twins' parents were originally from Mourao but had been living in England for years, with both boys born in the UK. It is not known how many years ago their parents left their homeland to move to the UK. Domingos, believed to live in Thetford, Norfolk, had celebrated his 55th birthday on Thursday just two days before flying to Portugal. A shocking picture from the scene seen by The Sun shows the mangled wreckage of one of the two cars involved, beside the road where the speed limit is 49mph. A source close to the investigation said the vehicle was so badly damaged that 'officers could only recover half a number-plate' and began using that to work out who was inside. Four friends killed in horror crash after concert as victim's aunt reveals tragic last phone call from inside doomed car Later, a daughter of the couple – unable to reach her family and fearing they were involved after hearing about the crash – contacted police, the insider added. They continued: "With the information she gave them officers made checks with the hire car firm at Faro Airport and tragically discovered a match. "That was how they were able to confirm the identities of the five occupants in the car with the four members of the same family inside." The GNR police force is probing the circumstances of the fatal smash. Mourao town hall has declared two days of mourning from Sunday. A spokesman said: "There were four occupants in the car, all from Mourao, and a young woman with ties to the family. 'Residents of England, they were traveling from Faro to Mourao for their usual and well-deserved vacation. "It is with great sadness that the Municipality announces this information, offering its condolences to the families and friends of the victims. "We inform you that all activities and events promoted by the Municipality are canceled for the entire weekend."

Horror as body of woman found chained ‘by the neck' and dumped underwater tied down with two dumbbells in Thailand
GRIM FIND Horror as body of woman found chained 'by the neck' and dumped underwater tied down with two dumbbells in Thailand Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A WOMAN'S body has been found chained by the neck and tied underwater with two concrete dumbbells at a popular fishing pier in Thailand. The horror discovery was made after stunned locals spotted the corpse floating close to shore. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Shocked locals spotted the corpse floating near popular fishing pier in Thailand Credit: Khaosod The body was found on Friday near Ban Tha Yai pier in Phang Nga's Mueang district. Police Lieutenant Pheerawit Chaichanyut of Khok Kloi Police Station said officers rushed to the scene with Kusoltham Foundation rescue workers after receiving an emergency call. The victim – whose identity, address, and nationality are still unknown – was wearing grey shorts and a brown round-neck T-shirt. Police believe she had been dead for around two days before being found in the murky waters. A heavy chain had been wrapped tightly around her neck and secured to two concrete dumbbells in what investigators believe was a calculated attempt to keep the body hidden on the seabed. But despite the grim effort, currents carried her to the surface and she drifted close to land. "This is a serious case, and we are treating it as a possible murder," Pol. Lt. Pheerawit said. "The way the body was weighted down points towards an attempt to conceal it." The body has been sent for a full autopsy to determine the cause of death and whether the woman was alive before entering the water. Local leaders and neighbouring districts have been told to check missing persons reports for anyone matching her description. Cops will meanwhile scour CCTV from the pier and surrounding waterways for suspicious movements in the days before the grim find. Anyone with information – particularly those who may have noticed unusual activity near Ban Tha Yai pier – is urged to contact police immediately. The case echoes a similar discovery in February when a fisherman in Rayong found a woman's decomposed body inside a locked suitcase weighted with two 10kg dumbbells. Her identity also remains unknown. More to follow... Isolated island where visitors banned for 70 years & trespassers are killed with arrows is the world's last time capsule
In 2018 a Christian missionary was shot dead after attempting to convert the tribe to Christianity KEEP OUT Isolated island where visitors banned for 70 years & trespassers are killed with arrows is the world's last time capsule Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A REMOTE island in the Indian Ocean that has been off limits to visitors for 70 years is one of the world's last remaining time capsules. The tribe who inhabit the tiny island have been living in voluntary isolation for 60,000 years, and are completely unexposed to modern life. The prohibition exists to prevent the islanders coming in to contact with mainland diseases, as they will likely have no immunity to them due to lack of exposure. It was also implemented to preserve their cultural heritage, and to prevent the tribe from being exploited for tourism or research extraction. Thanks to the law, the Sentinelese are also protected from poaching and human trafficking, with strict penalties in place for violations. Unwanted visitors There is a five mile exclusion zone surrounding the island, and members of the tribe who have defended the island have not been prosecuted by the government. The tribe have been known to kill unwanted visitors with arrows, and back in April, Youtuber Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov, 24, was arrested after visiting the island and giving the Sentinelese people a can of coke. Following the trip, the influencer, who previously visited Afghanistan and posed with Taliban weapons, described himself as a "thrill seeker". But he's not the only one to visit the tribe, in 2018, Christian missionary John Allen Chau, 26, visited the island in an attempt to convert the tribe to Christianity. John had planned to live with the Sentinelese and teach them the bible, but he was immediately shot with a bow and arrow on arrival. And in 2006, two Indian fisherman were killed by the tribe after their boat accidentally drifted on to the shore. Brit danger tourist brands tribe pest an 'amateur' & reveals bizarre peace offering he SHOULD have made instead of Coke The families of the dead have been unable to bury their bodies, as it is too dangerous to visit the island. North Sentinel Island is roughly 60 square kilometres in size, and is covered in untouched tropical rainforest. There are no signs of farmland or large settlements on the island, which has no roads, cars, or infrastructure. Understanding the tribe Indian anthropologist Triloknath Pandit dedicated years trying to understand the tribe by cautiously approaching them and offering them gifts such as coconuts and metal tools. Sometimes they would take the offerings, after the anthropologist and his team had left, but on other occasions, they would fire arrows at the outsiders. ALL ALONE Who are the Sentinelese? THE Sentinelese tribe are an indigenous tribe who have thrived on North Sentinal Island, one of the Andaman Islands in the Indian Ocean, for up to 55,000 years. They have zero contact with the outside world and are actively hostile to anyone who approaches their land. The small forested island of North Sentinel, which is a similar size to Manhattan, is even off limits to the Indian navy in a bid to protect the tribe of about 150 from being wiped out by disease. The tribe got international attention after the 2004 tsunami, when a member of the tribe was pictured on a beach, firing arrows at a helicopter inspecting their welfare. In 2006, two Indian fishermen, who had moored their boat near the island to sleep after fishing near there, were killed when their boat broke loose and drifted onto the shore. Campaigns by non-profit and local organisations have led the Indian government to abandon plans to contact the Sentinelese. Survival International, an organisation that campaigns for the rights of tribal people, works to ensure that no further attempts are made to contact the tribe. Then in 1991, a group of Sentinelese walked out of the jungle unarmed and accepted the gifts straight from the visitors. However, the moment was short-lived. 'When I was giving away the coconuts, I got a bit separated from the rest of my team and started going close to the shore", Pandit told the BBC. "One young Sentinel boy made a funny face, took his knife and signalled to me that he would cut off my head. "I immediately called for the boat and made a quick retreat. The gesture of the boy is significant. He made it clear I was not welcome.' 5 Mykhailo Polyakov was arrested after he allegedly made an illegal and unauthorized landing at the tribal reserve on North Sentinel Island Credit: Police Handout
