Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to visit IIT Jodhpur to inaugurate lecture hall on June 9
Constructed at a cost of Rs 14.8 crore, this state-of-the-art Lecture Hall Complex at IIT Jodhpur is expected to give a new direction to the Institute's academic and research activities.
During his visit, Birla will also distribute the 'Research Initiative Grant', which is aimed at encouraging researchers and innovation-related projects. In addition, he will launch the Institute's new official website.
On this occasion, the Lok Sabha Speaker will also release the 'Science Through Play' comic series, designed to popularise science. This series is an innovative effort to connect children and youth with scientific thinking in a simple and engaging language.
Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gehlot, social worker Nimbaram, renowned space scientist and Chairperson of IIT Jodhpur's Board of Governors AS Kiran Kumar, IIT Jodhpur Director Prof Avinash K. Agarwal, and Deputy Director Prof Bhabani K. Satpathy will also be present at the event. AS Kiran Kumar will preside over the programme.
This visit by the Lok Sabha Speaker is being seen as an important initiative to expand the reach of higher education, innovation, and science to the masses.

Centre to send bills on removal of PM, CMs with serious charges to panel
The government is set to refer its three big-ticket anti-corruption draft laws that also have provisions for the removal of a prime minister and chief ministers arrested on serious criminal charges, to the joint committee of both Houses of Parliament. Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce the three draft laws -- The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill; The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill; and The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. He will also move a motion to refer the three bills to a joint committee of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha with a provision for submission of its report on the first day of the last week of the next session of Parliament. Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw is also scheduled to introduce the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The bill seeks to prohibit online money gaming or its advertisements, and prescribes imprisonment or fine, or both, for those offering or advertising them. It also seeks to differentiate such games from eSports or online social games. The Lok Sabha is also scheduled to resume the discussion on astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's space mission on Wednesday. AR-VR lab construction begins at six Coimbatore corporation schools
COIMBATORE: Following positive feedback from students, teachers and parents, the Coimbatore corporation is setting up augmented reality (AR) - virtual reality (VR) labs in six more of its schools at a cost of Rs 4.8 crore. Corporation girls higher secondary schools at Ramakrishnapuram and Ranganathanpuram, Corporation Higher Secondary School at Peelamedu, Corporation P Kamalanathan Memorial Higher Secondary School at Venkitapuram, and corporation middle schools at Ganeshapuram and Masakalipalayam will get the labs. Construction work on the labs has commenced in four schools, with work expected to begin soon in the remaining two schools. Corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran said, "The construction is expected to be completed within two months in the six schools. The project might be implemented in more schools depending on the fund availability. The current works are being carried under the corporation education fund." Once operational, the six labs will benefit nearly 2,500 students. When it comes to science, topics like electricity were simplified." A faculty member in the school mentioned that parents provided positive feedback during a parent teacher meeting. The teacher stated, "Parents said their wards discussed the subject matter more, unlike in the past. The students' interest in the subject increased after experiencing the AR-VR labs."
