Edu dept issues 29 guidelines to improve SSLC results across state
Previously, there was a 20-point programme, which has now been expanded by nine more points. Govinda Madivala, DDPI, Dakshina Kannada, said that during the meeting, the senior officials mentioned various activities taken up over the period to improve the SSLC results. Some of them include Vijayi Bhava and the involvement of associations and NGOs to help increase the pass percentage.
Giving out the 29-point guidelines, he said classes should be completed by Dec; remedial teaching will start from the beginning of the academic year itself, after identifying slow learners, and special classes must be held from July.
The guidelines also stressed that students should be asked to reduce the use of their mobile phones and follow a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
In order to prepare students in advance instead of at the last minute, there will be class tests conducted regularly, after which teachers will hold a parents-teachers meeting once every two months. The teachers have been asked to counsel parents to provide a conducive academic environment at home.

The schools have also been asked to give an early warning about those who remain absent from classes. Teachers have to visit their homes and bring them back.
Another initiative introduced is buddy pairing, where slow learners will be helped by those who are good at academics.
The initiatives include health check-ups, career guidance, identification of poorly performing schools, a wake-up call, at least one hour of play break every week, preparing watchlist schools, an adoption system, monthly progress meetings at schools, announcing the SSLC-1 and SSLC-2 exam timetable in advance, preparing and releasing model question papers, conducting preparatory exams, district-wise progress meetings, and readmission of those candidates who failed in previous years.
Madivala added that some of the programmes listed above were already implemented in the district from the beginning of the academic year.
