Nitish Rana gets NOC from UPCA

Time of India25-06-2025
Lucknow: After two seasons of highs and lows with Uttar Pradesh, Nitish Rana has decided to return to his native state. The Rajasthan Royals batsman also received the no objection certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), which he had sought due to family commitments.
The 31-year-old Rana had moved to Uttar Pradesh in 2023 but did not have a very successful stint, either as a player or as captain. He had joined the Uttar Pradesh team in search of greener pastures and was even handed the captaincy, but failed to make the most of the opportunity.
The southpaw played 10 matches in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 447 runs in 15 innings at an average of 31.92. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he managed only 72 runs in 7 matches, averaging 18.00.
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he again failed to make a significant impact, scoring 314 runs in 16 matches at an average of 22.42. With the ball, he took three wickets in 10 Ranji matches at an economy of 2.98. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he claimed 7 wickets in 7 matches with an economy of 5.31, while in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20), he picked up 8 wickets in 16 matches at an economy of 6.64.
UPCA CEO Ankit Chatterjee said, "Rana applied for the NOC due to family commitments, and we issued it to him ahead of the upcoming red-ball season."
Earlier, Bagpat lad and experienced player Saurabh Kumar also took an NOC from UP and has decided to play for Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming season.

BCCI told to phase out Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma before it's too late: 'How will you keep Pant, Sudharsan, Jaiswal out?'

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are back in the news no sooner than a week after the end of India's Test series against England. The last and the 25th day of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy concluded last Monday, but while Ro-Ko is back doing the rounds, it's not for the best of reasons. Speculations around the future of two of India's biggest batting superstars are rife, with a belief that the tour of Australia in October could mark the end of their storied careers. The hope that Rohit and Kohli would feature in the 2027 World Cup for India, by when one would be 40 and the other 39, respectively, keeps diminishing with every passing day, with contradictive reports emerging from the media. How long before we see the last of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma?(AFP Images) The Dainik Jagran stated 24 hours ago that unless Kohli and Rohit agree to play the next Vijay Hazare Trophy, the ODIs in Australia could well be their last in India colours. Having already retired from Tests and T20Is, the ODIs and the IPL are all they have, and to keep up with match practice and form, every opportunity they get must be cashed in. However, a report in the PTI quoted a source saying that no such discussion has taken place and that Rohit and Kohli's case will only be looked at after the conclusion of next year's T20 World Cup, which, at the moment, is BCCI's priority. The topic has since kept gaining momentum. After former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly added fuel to the Ro-Ko buzz, another BCCI selector feels the board must prepare for a life without Kohli and Rohit. Devang Gandhi, a former BCCI national selector, reckons Kohli and Rohit must be phased out because of the long queue of youngsters ready to take ODI by storm. High on the heels of the England tour, Gandhi is confident that nurturing young blood and grooming talent is the way forward for Indian cricket, even if that means bidding adieu to two of its greatest cricketers of the last decade and more. "How will you make players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharshan, among others, sit out when they have shown how well they can adapt? The bigger transition is from T20s to Tests. Once a player has done well in Test cricket and has the power game, ODIs should come easier to them. It is very important that the selectors and the team management sit together and take a call," Gandhi told Times of India. 'Time doesn't wait for anybody' Gandhi's strong opinion could stem from India's solid showing by its batters in England. After Kohli and Rohit's retirement from Test cricket, across a gap of five days, it appeared as if India would struggle. But the eventual outcome was anything but that as the youngsters stepped, fighting tooth and nail to heroically draw the series 2-2. Furthermore, with no shortage of talent lined up in ODIs, Indian cricket seems to be in good hands, but if the youngsters aren't looked after properly, its present and future could be in jeopardy, asserts Gandhi. "If, say, in a year's time, we come to a situation where one of them is not firing and we need a replacement, the team management may not have enough time to prepare a player for the job. There's absolutely no doubt about the contribution of Rohit and Virat. But time doesn't wait for anybody," he added.

Sanju Samson reveals one IPL decision he would like to change as Rajasthan Royals captain, says ‘not retaining…'

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson revealed if one thing that he could change in his life was to reinstate Ravichandran Ashwin into the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. Ashwin, who started his IPL career at Chennai Super Kings, spent eight years at the five-time champions, before moving to Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016. The Tamil Nadu off-spinner played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Delhi Capitals before plying his trade for Samson-led Rajasthan Royals for three years from 2022 and 2024. Speaking to Ashwin in his YouTube show Kutti Stories with Ash, Samson admitted his biggest regret is releasing the 38-year-old. 'Not retaining Ash bhai (Ashwin),' stated Samson on being asked about one decision he'd want to change from his life. The duo immediately burst into laughter following the conversation. During the show, Samson also dived deep into Rajasthan Royals captaincy which changed his perspective, gameplay and point of view. Samson was appointed as the captain of the Rajasthan franchise before the start of the IPL 2021, taking over from Steve Smith. "Captaincy has opened up my perspective and helped me to accept these kind of ways. There is no one way of succeeding in cricket. I don't believe that there is only one way. When people are trying different things, I like to back them instead of questioning them," added Samson. Samson also revealed a hilarious but effective practice of Shimron Hetmyer, who wakes up just three hours before a match and still wins the game for the franchise with his destructive batting. "This guy, the match is at 8 PM, he will wake up at 5 PM, and be all sleepy during team meetings and all. Then he will score the most important runs for the team and win them the game. So, there is a way to do like that also," concluded Samson.

"He Wakes Up At 5pm To Play At 8pm": Sanju Samson's Shock Revelation About RR Star

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has been making headlines for quite some time now. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter is reportedly to be traded to some other franchise, most likely Chennai Super Kings, ahead of IPL 2026. Samson has been an integral part of RR, ever-since his debut in IPL in 2013. Under his captaincy, the franchise reached the final in 2022, where they lost against Gujarat Titans. However, after an abysmal outing in the 2025 season, there are reports that Samson and the franchise are likely to part ways. On a lighter note, Samson recently appeared on former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin 's show, Kutti Stories with Ash, and spoke about how his gameplay and point of view changed after being appointed as the captain of RR. "Captaincy has opened up my perspective and helped me to accept these kind of ways. There is no one way of succeeding in cricket. I don't believe that there is only one way. When people are trying different things, I like to back them instead of questioning them," Samson said. He went on to reveal a brilliant tale about West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer and stated that he used to sleep till late but win matches for RR with his performance. "But this guy, the match is at 8 PM, he will wake up at 5 PM, and be all sleepy during team meetings and all. Then he will score the most important runs for the team and win them the game. So, there is a way to do like that also," said Samson On being asked about which one decision in his life he would like to change, Samson's stunning answer triggered laughter.. "Not retaining Ash bhai (Ashwin)," replied Samson, bursting into laughter, when asked about one decision he'd want to change from his life. Samson seemingly referred to the IPL player retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Ashwin, who played for Rajasthan Royals between 2022 and 2024, was not retained by the franchise.
