Ahead of its theatrical debut on August 14, 2025, Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth, has received an 'A' (Adults Only) certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This marks director Lokesh Kanagaraj's first film to earn an adult rating, a departure from his earlier titles such as Vikram and Leo, both of which were granted U/A certificates.
Sun Pictures, the production house behind the film, announced the certification update via their official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The adult rating implies that the content is strictly restricted to viewers aged 18 and above, typically due to intense violence, suggestive themes, or coarse language.

While an 'A' certificate is rare for a Rajinikanth film, it isn't without precedent. The veteran actor's earlier films like Pudukkavidhai (1982), Ranga (1982), and Naan Sigappu Manithan (1985) also carried adult-only ratings. However, the latest certification hits different, particularly because of Lokesh's reputation for gritty, unfiltered storytelling.
