Attacks on Dalits increased in AP, alleges RPI chief
Speaking at a press conference at the RPI state office here on Wednesday, he alleged that the ruling coalition is deliberately fuelling divisions among Dalit sub-castes, instigating violence.
Deviprasad cited specific incidents to support his claims. In Aravalli village, Attili mandal of West Godavari district, he alleged that Madiga youth, backed by influential government figures, attacked five Mala youth. He criticised the police for filing superficial cases to downplay the incident. Similarly, in Jakkulanekkalam village, Gannavaram mandal, Krishna district, he claimed the government incited Madigas against Malas, leading to clashes. Dr Deviprasad expressed shock that such incidents are occurring under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's leadership. He also condemned the public beating of two Dalit youth and one minority youth by police in Tenali, Guntur district, calling it unacceptable and accusing the police of fabricating false cases. He highlighted the case of Perikala Madhu, a 33-year-old Dalit from Tummuluru, Kollipara mandal, who allegedly committed suicide due to harassment by Gayam Siva Reddy over a repaid Rs 50,000 loan. Further, he alleged that followers of TDP leader Ginjupalli Venkateswara Rao injured Dalit individuals Emella Sharath Babu and Emella Ramaswamy in Yanamadala village, Guntur district.
He also recalled a disturbing incident in Kuppam, the Chief Minister's constituency, where a Dalit woman was tied to a tree and beaten, questioning the safety of Dalits in the state. During the press conference, Dr Deviprasad announced key RPI appointments: G Ramarao and Bandi Kanaka Varaprasad as state vice-presidents, Ramanjaneyulu as state general secretary, Kookatlapalli Prasad and Pilli Raju as executive secretaries, Kanapalli Vinay Babu as Guntur district coordinator, Pradeep Bonigala as Guntur district president, Nallapu Neelambaram as Guntur city branch president, Kala Mahar as State Student Wing president, Arun Kumar as social media wing president, Chinthapalli Nagaraju as Krishna district Youth Wing president, and Jammi Solomon as Tadipatri constituency In-charge.

Government should take up BC census in A.P., says RPI leader
The Republican Party of India A.P. unit extended its support to the Backward Classes (BCs) who staged a sit-in protest in Vijayawada on Tuesday. RPI A.P. unit president Uppuleti Devi Prasad visited the BCs dharna camp and extended his support. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Devi Prasad said that the Central and State governments were following policies against the SCs, STs, BCs and other minorities. He requested both the governments to give priority to the SCs, STs and BCs in all walks of life. The State government should take up BC census in A.P. and give due reservation to them in all the legislative bodies, Mr. Devi Prasad said. The RPI leader asked the State government to enact laws that will protect the BCs as promised during the election time. He also came down heavily on the TDP-led government for not implementing the election promises despite being in power for one and half years.

TN IT engineer murder: DMK allies seek law against honour killing
Tiruneveli/Chennai, Jul 29 (PTI) With the alleged honour killing of a Dalit IT engineer in Tamil Nadu sending across shock waves, allies of the ruling DMK on Tuesday demanded a separate legislation to handle such incidents. The victim, 27 year-old Kavin Selvaganesh was hacked to death by a youth, allegedly over an inter-caste relationship near a Siddha facility in the southern Tirunevlei district on Sunday. The victim was employed as an engineer with a software firm in Chennai. Thol Thirumavalavan, VCK chief, an ally of the ruling DMK, demanded legislation to prevent honour killings. 'It is said the woman's parents, who were involved in this gruesome honour killing, have not been arrested. They must be arrested and removed from (police) service," Thirumavalavan said in a statement here. He sought the transfer of the case to a special investigating team for fair probe. 'It is distressing that caste-based honour killings and casteist attacks continue to occur, particularly in the southern districts. We reiterate our demand for the creation of a dedicated intelligence unit in the police department to curb such caste-based atrocities," he said. 'The occurrence of such caste killings in many parts of Tamil Nadu, especially in the southern districts, is a cause for concern. The government contends that the existing criminal laws are sufficient, but the ongoing caste killings underscore the need for a new law," he said in a statement. He also sought appropriate compensation and government jobs for Kavin's family. The suspect, S Surjith, has been arrested on July 28 and remanded. According to a police officer, both Saravanan and Krishnakumari, the parents of the accused, are police sub-inspectors, and they have been placed under suspension following the incident. Senior police officials went to the house of Kavin Selvaganesh to console his parents and provide relief. However, his parents declined to accept the relief and demanded the immediate arrest of the SI couple as justice for their son's murder. A case has been registered against the SI couple and their son Surjith under various sections of BNS and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, police said. Police investigation revealed that on July 27, the victim, Kavin had gone to KTC Nagar to consult the woman, a Siddha physician, about his grandfather's health condition. He was accosted by the woman's brother Surjith who invited him home for a discussion. Trusting him, Kavin went along with him. But enroute, Surjith abruptly stopped his two-wheeler, pulled out a sickle and indiscriminately attacked Kavin, police said. Though Kavin attempted to flee, Surjith overtook him and hacked him to death, police added. Meanwhile, On Tuesday, the relatives of Kavin staged a protest in neighbouring Tuticorin district, demanding justice for him. One of his relatives attempted to immolate himself, but the police present on the spot poured water on him and thwarted the attempt. North Andhra leaders urge Chief Minister to fast-track Makavarapalem, Paderu medical colleges
Leaders from North Andhra have urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to back their stated commitment to the region's development with concrete action. The Forum for Development of North Andhra (FDNA) has expressed concern over the abrupt halting of construction work at the Government Medical College in Makavarapalem, which had been progressing well during the YSRCP regime. Similarly, the Paderu Medical College project is moving at a sluggish pace, with key infrastructure yet to be completed. 'In Paderu, three slabs have already been laid and major civil works were completed under the previous government. However, we were surprised to see construction equipment being shifted to Amaravati during a recent site visit,' said A. Aja Sarma, FDNA general secretary. Mr. Sarma said the forum had written to the Chief Minister on July 8, requesting immediate resumption of work. He emphasised that improved access to medical education is crucial for the backward North Andhra region, which has long been neglected by successive governments. Due to the shortage of medical seats, many students from the State are forced to pursue studies in countries like China, Ukraine, and several African nations. 'Setting up and completing government medical colleges is not just a policy decision — it's a necessity,' he said. At Paderu, only 50 of the sanctioned 100 seats were filled in the first batch due to poor infrastructure. With hostels yet to be completed, accommodation for a second batch of students will be a challenge. Of the required 180 staff members, only 79 have been appointed so far, and many posts are being filled on a temporary basis. Former professor at the Centre for Economic and Social Sciences (CESS), C. Ramachandraiah, criticised Mr. Naidu's continued focus on Amaravati at the cost of balanced regional development.
