Georgia fans thrilled after UGA basketball makes March Madness for first time in a decade
Georgia Bulldogs basketball fans are thrilled after Georgia ended their NCAA Tournament drought. The Bulldogs (20-12, 8-10 SEC) are the No. 9 seed in the Midwest Region of the bracket and will play the No. 8-seed Gonzaga Bulldogs (25-8, 14-4 West Coast) on Thursday in Wichita, Kansas.
Georgia had not made the NCAA Tournament since 2015. The Bulldogs are one of 14 SEC teams (new NCAA record) to make March Madness. Georgia was pretty confident in their NCAA Tournament hopes after a recent four-game winning streak.
Still, you never know what the selection committee will do, so it was a relief to many UGA fans when they finally heard their name called in the bracket reveal.
"And in that eight-nine game, they (Gonzaga) will face a Georgia Bulldogs squad that took down Florida, Kentucky and St. John's," said Adam Zucker of CBS. "As they (Georgia) go for their first tournament win since 2002."

"The Georgia Bulldogs had the fourth-longest NCAA Tournament drought among high-major teams, trailing only DePaul, Boston College, and Stanford," said Jordan Hill of 247Sports via social media. Of course, now this drought is over. However, UGA has not won an NCAA Tournament game since 2002.

"My hopes are irrationally high!" said former Georgia tight end Arthur Lynch via social media. "There's nothing more fun than partaking in the delusional Dawgs fan mania." As a fan it is nice to just be in March Madness, but we know the players and coaches will want to make noise in the NCAA Tournament.

She averaged 19.2 points and a WNBA-leading 8.4 assists as a rookie. The Fever are also without guard Sophie Cunningham, who has been limited to four games by ankle injury. Alabama picks up transfer portal commitment from in-state foe Alabama baseball picked up its fourth offseason commitment from the transfer portal on Monday. Former South Alabama infielder Brennan Holt, who spent a year at LSU and a year at Oklahoma State, announced his decision to transfer to the Crimson Tide in a post to social media. Holt joins pitchers Matthew Tippie (Texas State) and Kaden Humphrey (North Florida) and infielder Justin Osterhouse (Purdue-Fort Wayne) as players Alabama has added via the portal since its season ended with a 6-5 loss to Southern Miss at the Hattiesburg Regional of the NCAA Tournament on May 31. A product of Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge, Holt spent the past two seasons at South Alabama after committing to LSU in 2020. He was rated the No. 5 overall recruit in Louisiana by Perfect Game coming out of high school. Holt spent one season with the Tigers in 2022 and appeared in five games before obtaining a medical redshirt due to injury and transferring to Oklahoma State for his sophomore season in 2023. He played in 34 games for the Cowboys and batted .173 (11-for-52). As a redshirt sophomore in 2024, Holt started all 56 games for South Alabama and batted .266 with three home runs, 15 doubles and 24 RBIs. His average rose to .303 as a junior this past season, clubbing six home runs to go with 14 doubles. Holt primarily played second base and was the Jags' leadoff hitter. He stole 29 bases over two seasons with South Alabama, which finished 23-28 overall in the Sun Belt conference this year. Alabama capped the 2025 season at 41-18 overall and were 16-14 in SEC play during the regular season in coach Rob Vaughn's second year in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide's 40 victories in the regular season marked the first time since 2002 that Alabama had posted 40 or more wins in a regular season. Alabama was the No. 2 seed at the Hattiesburg Regional and was ranked No. 20 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll entering the NCAA Tournament. Quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to attend the Atlanta Falcons' mandatory minicamp beginning on Tuesday, league sources told The Athletic. Cousins' minicamp attendance is notable because the soon-to-be-37-year-old's future remains in limbo. For now, the Falcons have Cousins penciled in as their backup to starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr., whom they selected with a first-round draft pick last year.
