After kiss in 'Superman', CBFC cuts intimate scenes in Ahaan Pandey's 'Saiyaara', netizens demand Sandeep Reddy Vanga to become the censor board chief
Ahaan Panday
, is all set to step into the limelight with his Bollywood debut in Saiyaara, a romantic musical helmed by
Mohit Suri
. Starring opposite newcomer Aneet Padda, the film is slated for a theatrical release on July 18 and is being presented by Yash Raj Films.
While the musical drama has been granted a U/A certificate, it hasn't escaped the scrutiny of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has raised objections to certain scenes.
As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC has directed the makers to implement several changes. Four scenes featuring "objectionable" words were asked to be altered with more "appropriate" dialogue. Additionally, the board instructed the deletion and substitution of ten seconds worth of 'sensual, intimate, body exposure visuals.'
The total runtime of the film now stands at 156.50 minutes — or 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 50 seconds.
In another directive, the CBFC has also asked the team to insert a safety disclaimer during two-wheeler sequences, specifically highlighting helmet usage. The censor board's actions have triggered backlash online, with netizens taking to Reddit to voice their dissatisfaction over what they see as outdated censorship.
A screenshot of the news posted on Reddit sparked a flood of reactions. One user remarked, 'Sanskari censor board got no chill.' Another called out the inconsistency by noting, 'The same CBFC gave Housefull 5 a U/A certificate. Hypocrisy.' There were also playful demands for Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga to take on the CBFC itself: 'Vanga for CBFC chairman. Please upvote,' read a comment, while another predicted, 'We will witness Sandeep Reddy Vanga vs Censor Board soon.
'
Interestingly, the censorship on Saiyaara comes close on the heels of CBFC's decision to chop a kissing scene from the Hollywood film Superman, featuring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan — a move that also attracted criticism for being overly conservative.
Despite the controversy, Saiyaara is building momentum ahead of its release. Directed by Mohit Suri in his first collaboration with YRF, the film boasts a rich musical score with contributions from Mithoon, Sachet-Parampara, Vishal Mishra, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, Rishabh Kant, and Arslan Nizami. With advance bookings showing encouraging numbers, the film is poised for a strong opening, censorship cuts notwithstanding.

Do You Know Ahaan Panday Was First Cast With Ajay Devgn In A Superhero Film Before Saiyaara?
Last Updated: Ahaan Panday's debut in Saiyaara was not his first launch plan, he was earlier set to star in a superhero film with Ajay Devgn. Ahaan Panday is enjoying a dream debut with Saiyaara, which has lit up the box office with a roaring start. But did you know the rising star of Yash Raj Films was actually supposed to make his acting debut with a big-budget superhero film opposite Ajay Devgn? Ahaan, who plays the aspiring rockstar Krish Kapoor in the Mohit Suri-directed Saiyaara, was initially launched as an Assistant Director on The Railway Men, Netflix's acclaimed YRF miniseries. However, before all that, he had already been chosen to headline a superhero film under the YRF banner. According to Bollywood Hungama, the project was an ambitious multi-part superhero saga featuring Ahaan in the lead and Ajay Devgn as the antagonist. Former Miss World Manushi Chhillar was also on board. A source had said in 2020, 'It's true that Ahaan Panday and Ajay Devgn will be seen together. Ajay plays the antagonist in this film, which promises to be a visually grand and exciting affair. It'll be a part of a superhero series and every part will have a new villain." Despite the buzz, the film never made it past pre-production. In 2021, Ajay Devgn reportedly backed out, citing scheduling issues after COVID-19 disrupted several of his pending projects. With the plan shelved, Ahaan shifted gears and joined director Shiv Rawail as an AD on The Railway Men. Following the show's release in November 2023, Ahaan shared an emotional post on Instagram reflecting on his time on set. He wrote, 'I was working on a show about a group of brave souls… it made me realise that that is the only way we can treat our dreams… sometimes life forces you to think about where you're going, but that's exactly when you need to look out of that window and see the beauty in it all." Now, with Saiyaara, Ahaan finally steps into the limelight, and fans are loving his fresh energy and screen presence. The romantic musical also stars Aneet Padda. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Saiyaara grossed Rs 20.50 crore on its opening day — setting a new record for debutant-led films in Bollywood. Previously, the record was held by Dhadak (2018) with an opening of Rs 8.71 crore and Student of the Year (2012) with Rs 7.48 crore. Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara follows the love story of Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), a dreamer who wants to become a singing sensation, and Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), an aspiring journalist. Their lives take unexpected turns as love, ambition, and societal pressures clash in this emotionally charged romance. As Saiyaara continues to perform strongly at the box office, the special screening served as both a warm welcome for Ahaan Panday into Bollywood and a celebration of young talent making a splash on the big screen.
