
World Games: Hong Kong gold tally doubled, wushu champ Yeung thanks Bruce Lee
Yeung's first-place finish in the Chinese martial art's taijijian combined event kept the Hong Kong team on a high after Grace Lau Mo-sheung's karate gold on Friday.
It also secured the city's best-ever performance at a World Games in terms of gold medals, having previously won solitary golds at the 2013 and 2022 events.
Yeung had claimed taijiquan bronze in 2022 at the Games' previous edition in Birmingham, Alabama.
'I perform each move with grace, which is why I chose this martial art,' Yeung said after his triumph.

A Latvian judge in the Latin dance contest at the World Games in Chengdu has gone viral on Chinese social media, with fans commenting on his posture and elegance, which have earned him the nickname 'Mr Ferrari'. Standing at more than 1.88 metres (six feet, two inches), Sergey Sinkins, listed as an official adjudicator at the World Games, drew the eye of Chinese fans at the Chengbei Gymnasium on Friday for his tall and slender appearance, needle-straight posture, silver hair and black suit. As videos and images of Sinkins went viral on RedNote, with people posting about an 'elegance overload', he was dubbed a 'Ferrari' – a Chinese internet slang term used to refer to something or someone that, despite being old, has remained cool. 'Mr Ferrari'-related hashtags have been viewed more than 20 million times on RedNote, and Sinkins was interviewed by local media at the World Games. 'I don't know what to say; I am quite shocked about the whole situation,' he told local media. One RedNote account appearing to be Sinkins has been created on the platform, posting images of the 55-year-old and thanking Chinese fans for their support.

World Games: wakesurfer Harry Cheng wins Hong Kong's fourth medal in Chengdu
Hong Kong secured its fourth World Games medal in Chengdu on Sunday, as Harry Cheng Chun-hin took bronze in the men's wake surf skim event. Jett Lambert of the United States took gold, scoring 85 points from the judges, while China's Zhuang Tiancai was second with 65.67. Cheng scored 59 points, just two more than fourth-place Thai athlete Bm Jomboon, to claim bronze. 'Cheng claiming a medal in his debut on the world stage speaks volumes about Hong Kong's growing prowess in water sports,' said Wong Po-kee, chef de mission of the Hong Kong delegation. This is the fourth medal for the SAR after the team clinched three golds since the tournament kicked off on August 7. Cheng gained a score of 59, putting him in third place among six contestants in the finals. The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee congratulated Cheng and the waterski team for their achievements in the sport, that's making its debut at the World Games. "Cheng demonstrated exceptional balance and coordination in the finals, performing an impressive array of tricks with swift and agile moves," said Chef de Mission Wong Po-kee. "Cheng claiming a medal in his debut on this world stage speaks volumes about Hong Kong's growing prowess in water sports," Wong added.
