Three-time SB champion excited for Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers: 'He's going to tear it up'
Aaron Rodgers definitely has his fair share of doubters heading into the 2025 season — but three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth isn't one of them.
On a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Schlereth touched on the Jets' inefficient run game and Rodgers' lingering injuries, then explained how great the future Hall of Fame QB looked at the end of the 2024 season:
"Toward the end of the season, when I dug through the three games that I always watch as I'm prepping — I'm breaking down the coach's film, three games — I was like, 'Damn, Aaron can play,'" Schlereth said. "And then I'm watching him pregame on Sunday morning, and pregame I'm watching him throw the football versus the way a bunch of 25-year-olds throw the football — and it's like varsity versus JV. That dude can still rip it. … If [Rodgers] is healthy, and you've got [the Steelers run game], mixed with that play-action game, he's going to tear it up."
The Jets had the second-worst rushing offense in terms of yards last season — and while OC Arthur Smith made it clear the Steelers didn't acquire Rodgers and DK Metcalf to "run the wishbone," the four-time MVP should have a drastically better running game to work with in 2025.

Rival Coach Weighs In On Cowboys' Major Offseason Addition
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. As the teams in their division stacked up in the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys didn't sit on their hands. They got in the mix as well, pulling off a big trade to add to the cast of weapons around Dak Prescott. By far their biggest splash was trading for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. Though he's had his issues off the field, Pickens is still a high-level talent at wide receiver. Playing alongside a QB the caliber of Prescott, the former second-round pick could put together a career year in Dallas. Given the baggage he's bringing with him, the Cowboys' acquisition of Pickens has been met with mixed feelings. That said, many still believe he could be an upgrade for the iconic franchise. While speaking anonymously, one coach in the NFC East weighed in on the Cowboys' big trade. They feel having a pair of dynamic receivers should yield big dividends for Dallas' offense. "Dealing with CeeDee [Lamb] and him opens things up for them," a coach in the division said. One coach in the AFC is much higher on Pickens going to Dallas, stating that the new situation should be good for him. Added an AFC personnel man: "He'll be a big piece there. When he's covered, he's really open. I know the concerns are there, but I think having an already established passing game with veterans to help him along, and the fact he's in a contract year, will help keep him in line. If you can tap into what he can do fully, his major ability will shine through." Seeing that he's in the final year of his contract, he'll be auditioning for his next deal either in Dallas or elsewhere. That said, if Pickens can limit his off-field antics and be productive for the Cowboys, it should result in him being compensated handsomely. Before his injury-ridden 2024 season, Prescott was playing at an MVP level. He'll be aiming to return to form this year, and Pickens can help him with that. Based on how his time with the Steelers ended, the Cowboys wideout is a player many will be watching closely to kick off the 2025 campaign. HC Mike Elko believes Texas A&M junior DL will 'fulfill his potential' in 2025
HC Mike Elko believes Texas A&M junior DL will 'fulfill his potential' in 2025 Texas A&M's defensive line depth became an immediate talking point early in the offseason, mainly due to the departures of Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart, and Shemar Turner, who were all selected in the first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, after adding five defensive linemen from the transfer portal, including four edge rushers, interior defensive line depth remains an issue, putting pressure on the starting rotation to perform effectively. On Wednesday night, head coach Mike Elko spoke during the annual Dallas Coach's Night, previewing the 2025 season for what seems like the tenth time this year. Still, it has not yet become redundant, as the second-year leader had plenty to say regarding several players, including junior defensive tackle DJ Hicks. This is a critical season for the former five-star prospect, who was the crown jewel of Texas A&M's 2023 recruiting class, but has yet to live up to his high school production, mainly due to the depth in front of him during his first two seasons. Still, during his first season as a starting defensive tackle, Hicks recorded just 17 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two pass deflections. This offseason, Hicks has reportedly worked hard to build more strength in the weight room and work on his technique as a run defender, which, paired with senior nose tackle Albert Regis, needs to reach a level of consistency, as former Iowa State DL Tyler Onyedum is already a proven run defender who also brings notable pass rusher ability to the depth chart. Despite his lack of production, Elko is very high on DJ Hicks to take that next step and finally live up to his immense potetnial as "the guy" on the D-line. "I think DJ Hicks is probably that guy who is going to step into that limelight this year and fulfill his potential." This vote of confidence is a good sign knowing the amount of talent from the transfer portal, as Elko could have named any one of the new additions that have stood out, but remains steady that Hicks will become one of the defense's more reliable defenders. With just one year of eligibility remaining after this season, 2025 needs to be the year that Hicks shines. Perrion Winfrey signed by Dallas Cowboys
Perrion Winfrey signed by Dallas Cowboys Former Oklahoma Sooners defensive lineman Perrion Winfrey is getting a second chance to make it in the National Football League. According to NBC Houston's Aaron Wilson, Winfrey is signing with the Dallas Cowboys, after a successful stint in the United Football League this spring. Winfrey played defensive tackle for OU for two seasons. After transferring in from Iowa Western Community College, he was a two-year starter in Norman in both 2020 and 2021. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 108th overall pick, after a Senior Bowl MVP performance during the pre-draft process. He appeared in 13 games during his rookie season. But an off-field incident ahead of the 2023 season led to the Browns releasing Winfrey, and he didn't play that year until the New York Jets signed him late in the season. He only appeared in one game for the Jets, and didn't play at all during the 2024 NFL season, as he was a free agent. So, Winfrey took his talents to the UFL for their 2025 season, signing with the Birmingham Stallions. He had an excellent year there, helping the Stallions make the playoffs, and was named to the All-UFL Team this spring. Winfrey totaled 29 tackles, including nine tackle for loss and a sack. He also added four pass breakups and a forced fumble in 10 games in 2025. Now, Winfrey is getting another shot at the NFL, where he'll look to show off his impressive physical traits and potential at the highest level once again.
