Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi inaugurates exhibition in Lucknow to mark Ahilyabai Holkar's birth anniversary
The Chief Minister described the life and contributions of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar to mark her birth anniversary.
'Prime Minister Narendra Modi has connected the entire nation with a new jewel from India's glorious past through this exhibition dedicated to Pujya Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. With the intent that more and more people can visit and pay their respects to such a revered Lok Mata, this exhibition has been organised not just here, but at every district headquarters, said CM Adityanath.
Chief Minister Yogi said that the grand initiative will inspire the entire state and serve as a significant milestone in our collective journey toward national integration and innovative societal efforts.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed happiness that a Government Medical College in Auraiya would be named after Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar.
The UP chief minister slammed the previous Samajwadi Party state government for renaming a degree college in Auraiya.
'There was a degree college in Auraiya named after Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar. The Samajwadi Party government had changed the name of that degree college. Today, I am happy to announce that in the same Auraiya, we will name the Government Medical College after Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar', CM Yogi said.
Last week, CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the National Seminar-2025 on 'Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development' on Thursday.
The CM stated that achieving the country's goal of net zero by 2070 could not be fulfilled solely by the government but required the collective efforts of everyone.
Devi Ahilyabai Holkar was born on 31 May 1725 in a Maratha Hindu family in the village of Chaundi, now in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district. This year marks her 300th birth anniversary. (ANI)

Lok Sabha passes bill to set up IIM in Guwahati
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 19 (PTI) The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a bill to set up Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati with the Union government providing capital support of Rs 550 crore. The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 — which was passed amid din in the Lower House — will help set up the second IIM in the Northeast after Shillong. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan piloted the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 as Opposition continued with their protest over the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. After the passage of the bill through a voice vote, Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day. According to the draft law, the Centre, the Assam government, and representatives of the United Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa) signed a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) for all-round development of the state. The establishment of an IIM in Guwahati as an institution of national importance is one of the projects under the Special Development Package (SDP) provided to Assam. At present, there are 21 IIMs that are declared as institutions of national importance and each of those are specified in the Schedule to the IIM Act. The Assam government has requested for establishment of an IIM in the state, keeping in view the geographical location of the state and its all-round development. The bill noted that until the first Board of IIM Guwahati is constituted under this Act, all powers and functions, which may be exercised or performed by or on behalf of such Board shall be exercised and performed by such person or persons as the central government may direct on this behalf. UP, United Kingdom Collaborate To Offer Chevening Scholarship To 5 Students Every Year
Last Updated: Chevening Scholarship: To qualify for the scholarship, a student must hold an undergraduate degree suitable for a master's programme in the UK. The United Kingdom and Uttar Pradesh signed the Chevening scholarship agreement on Tuesday, enabling five students each year to study in the UK with a fully funded scholarship. The agreement was signed during a courtesy visit by British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. The British High Commissioner expressed confidence in the strengthening relations between the UK and India, mentioning the recently signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and Vision 35 as catalysts for numerous business opportunities. 'It's wonderful to be here in Lucknow today to sign with the Chief Minister the agreement on the new Chevening scholarships which we're announcing together between the United Kingdom and Uttar Pradesh. This will give the opportunity for five students every year for the next three years to go to the UK on a fully funded scholarship which is part of the fantastic and growing relationship between the United Kingdom and India," the High Commissioner Cameron told ANI after the meeting. Chevening is the UK Government's international scholarships programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations, offering individuals the chance to further their education in the UK. To qualify for the scholarship, a student must hold an undergraduate degree suitable for a master's programme in the UK. Applicants must apply to three eligible courses in the UK and receive an unconditional offer from at least one. Once selected, recipients will have their university tuition funded, receive a monthly stipend, a travel allowance to and from the UK, and an arrival allowance. The cost of one visa application will be covered, and a travel grant will be provided to attend Chevening events in the UK. The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday took up the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025, which aims to relax the norms for mining critical minerals . The Bill, which has already been passed by the Lok Sabha, was tabled in the Upper House in the post-lunch sitting. Talking about the Bill, he said whether it is auction or exploration of mineral blocks, or critical minerals, this Bill will ensure that a "strong supply chain" is established in the country. Talking about Odisha's mineral wealth, he said, "This mineral wealth has over time turned from a blessing to a curse for the state. Central government and mine lease holders reap huge benefits, but Odisha does not receive its due share." "Districts such as Kyonjhar, Mayurbhanj, which are mineral rich, are now facing pollution and degradation caused by mining activities. New amendments should have addressed these concerns but there is little reflection of that," he said. Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora said the Bill would help in making India self-reliant. "This Bill is not only a reform in mining policy, but a strategic imperative to make India's economy self reliant," he said.
