Time For Angels To Let Mike Trout Depart Anaheim?

The Los Angeles Angels entered Tuesday only 2 1/2 games out of the final wild card spot in the American League, but they were also two games under .500 and have a run differential of -50. Trout has already spent time on the injured list this season, and since being activated, he has been able to suit up as the designated hitter but has yet to return to the field.

Photo byTrout is one of the best players in the game when healthy, but in recent years, it has become increasingly difficult for the future Hall of Famer to remain on the field for the duration of a 162-game season.
Trout has five years remaining on the extension he signed with the Angels in 2019, and it may be time for the Angels to question if he will be worth the $37.1 million salary through his age-38 season.
Trout is a once-in-a-lifetime player that the Angels franchise needed, but now his health concerns have diminished his play in the last few seasons. Trout holds a full no-trade clause in his contract and will not be going anywhere unless he allows the deal to pass.
While the Angels manager, Ron Washington, has been sidelined due to health issues, the Angels are in sink or swim mode heading to the trade deadline. If the Angels struggle to keep their heads above water in the American League Wild Card race, then the Angels would have to consider allowing Trout to help facilitate a trade out of Los Angeles.
Teams that are in search of offensive firepower in their lineup should be calling the Angels up if there is even the slightest chance that they would move their franchise's greatest player.

Red Sox 'Could Set Trade Deadline Ablaze' by Trading Jarren Duran

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Red Sox were within striking distance of a postseason spot entering play on Wednesday, but have not been playing great. Their offense is inconsistent, and outside of Garrett Crochet, their starting rotation has been subpar. They are in danger of falling out of contention by the July 31 trade deadline. If that happens, they could have some attractive pieces to trade away. USA Today's Bob Nightengale suggested that the Red Sox could change the outlook of the trade deadline by making Jarren Duran available. BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JUNE 24: Jarren Duran #16 of the Boston Red Sox is doused with water after hitting the game winning RBI against the Toronto Blue Jays during the ninth inning at Fenway Park... BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JUNE 24: Jarren Duran #16 of the Boston Red Sox is doused with water after hitting the game winning RBI against the Toronto Blue Jays during the ninth inning at Fenway Park on June 24, 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts. More"If they don't mind a modern-day Boston Tea Party with everyone ripping up their tickets, the Red Sox could set the trade deadline ablaze by dealing Alex Bregman before he opts out or trading outfielder Jarren Duran," wrote Nightengale. Duran is a candidate to be dealt even if the Red Sox are in contention. He is the odd man out in the outfield that features Roman Anthony, the top prospect in baseball, Ceddanne Rafaela, who is signed to an extension, and Wilyer Abreu, who is younger and has more club control. Duran was an All-Star last season and led baseball in doubles and triples. His production has taken a dip this year, but he is under club control through 2028 and the Red Sox could solve their logjam and maximize his value by trading him now. Many outfield-needy contenders would be interested in Duran. He could yield the Red Sox some much-needed pitching in a trade. Yankees Keeping 'Close Eye' On Slugging $66M All-Star Blockbuster Trade Candidate

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Yankees need to find an upgrade in the infield. DJ LeMahieu has underperformed and his playing at second base has Jazz Chisholm Jr. playing third base, where he is not as strong a defender. The Yankees could solve both of those problems by trading for a third baseman and moving Chisholm back to second base. MLB insider Bob Nightengale revealed that the Yankees are eyeing Eugenio Suárez at the trade deadline. "The American League is wide open, and the Yankees are poised to take full advantage of the opportunity," Nightengale wrote for USA Today. "They badly need a third baseman or a second baseman, and realize there's 0% chance that the Red Sox answering their prayers by trading them Alex Bregman. They are keeping a close eye on Suarez and Kiner-Falefa, which would allow them to move Jazz Chisholm back to second base." More Douglas P. DeFelice/Getty Images The Arizona Diamondbacks are in danger of falling out of contention before the July 31 trade deadline. They are still within striking distance of a postseason spot right now, but have some key players injured. Corbin Burnes and Corbin Carroll are both hurt, making it tougher to stay alive in the postseason race. Suárez is a prime candidate to be dealt if the team decides to sell. He signed a seven-year, $66 million deal in 2018 and is playing on a club option this year. He will be a free agent after the season and has some good trade value. He is slashing .251/.323/.569 in 78 games. He leads the National League in RBI entering play on Wednesday. He has 25 home runs as well. Adding his bat to the middle of the Yankees' lineup could go a long way in fixing their offensive woes. The veteran slugger has hit 301 career home runs and could help lead the Yankees through October. He is a former All-Star and can be an everyday third baseman. Adding Suárez would essentially end LeMahieu's time as a starter for the Yankees. He has been on the team since 2019. He has played in 706 games for the Yankees. He has been an All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger and Gold Glover with the team. However, he is clearly out of his prime and likely better suited for a bench role. Yankees Have '0% Chance' to Win Trade Sweepstakes for $120 Million Superstar, Insider Says

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Yankees need an upgrade in the infield. They can target second or third basemen and deploy Jazz Chisholm at the other position. DJ LeMahieu has been subpar defensively, and he has a .245/.321/.337 slash line. There should be some quality options available to the Yankees at the July 31 trade deadline. However, they can scratch one name off the list. MLB insider Bob Nightengale revealed the Yankees realize they have a "0% chance" of getting Alex Bregman from the Boston Red Sox. "The American League is wide open, and the Yankees are poised to take full advantage of the opportunity," wrote Nightengale for USA Today. "They badly need a third baseman or a second baseman, and realize there's 0% chance that the Red Sox answering their prayers by trading them Alex Bregman." BRONX, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 21: New York Yankee general manager Brian Cashman speaks to the media during a press conference at Yankee Stadium on December 21, 2022 in Bronx, New York. BRONX, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 21: New York Yankee general manager Brian Cashman speaks to the media during a press conference at Yankee Stadium on December 21, 2022 in Bronx, New Red Sox are still hanging around in the postseason race. They are 2 1/2 games out of a wild card spot. However, there is a chance they fall too far back in the standings by the July 31 deadline and become sellers. After trading Devers, the Red Sox may be interested in moving forward with their young core of Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, Kristian Campbell, Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela as the pillars of their team. They could get a haul out of Devers at the trade deadline if they decide they want to embrace the youth movement and prepare for next season. If Bregman were made available, many teams would be picking up the phones to try to get him. Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million deal in the offseason with an opt-out after this season. Bregman was slashing .299/.385/.553 before his injury, and it's safe to assume he would opt out to find a better deal. The Red Sox need to surround Garrett Crochet with more help in the rotation, and trading Bregman could help them do that for next season. However, that help will not be coming from the Yankees. The Yankees will need to pivot to other seemingly available options like Ke'Bryan Hayes, Ryan McMahon or Eugenio Suárez. More MLB: Nationals Executive Responds To Manager Dave Martinez's Comments
