ASRY-Noatum JV celebrates arrival of 4 modern tugboats
Noatum Maritime and The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) have marked the operational commencement of their joint venture to provide integrated marine services in Bahrain, with the arrival of four modern tugs at ASRY's headquarters.
The arrival of the tugs, part of Noatum Maritime's existing fleet, was celebrated during a ceremony attended by representatives from various ministries, public bodies and leading industrial firms at ASRY's headquarters in Bahrain.
This development follows the announcement of the JV in February, which aims to expand the current marine service offering in Bahrain and across the wider region.
The partnership, to be known as ASRY Marine, is aligned with both parties' strategic goals to expand capabilities and diversify service offerings.
Captain Ammar Al Shaiba, CEO of the Maritime & Shipping Cluster, AD Ports Group, said: "The arrival and deployment of these advanced tugs symbolise the official commencement of our strategic partnership with ASRY. We look forward to utilising our decades of expertise in this field to deliver greater operational efficiency, reliability and value to customers."
Dr Ahmed Al Abri, the CEO of ASRY said: "We take pride in setting the stage for our new partnership with Noatum Maritime through this occasion. The new tugboats feature advanced technologies that will undoubtedly support and enhance current marine services, while also enabling the introduction of new ones."

Noatum Maritime, part of AD Ports Group's Maritime & Shipping Cluster, has reinforced its commitment to sustainable maritime operations with two major investments - the acquisition of the GCC's first all-electric hydrofoiling pilot boat, and the purchase of two fully electric tug boats. The region's first 100% electric Artemis EF-12 Pilot boat marks a significant advancement in energy-efficient pilotage. Powered by Artemis Technologies' cutting-edge eFoiler technology, this 12-metre vessel lifts the hull above the water's surface, significantly reducing drag and cutting energy consumption by up to 85% while increasing speed and efficiency. This not only translates into substantial fuel and maintenance cost savings but also provides customers with a high performance, zero-emission alternative that aligns with global sustainability targets. Additionally, two Damen RSD-E tug 2513's will drive sustainable towage operations at Khalifa Port. Following the successful trial of the first unit— the most powerful electric tugboat, as recognised by Guinness World Records — Noatum Maritime has opted to permanently integrate the vessel into its fleet, alongside an additional unit entering service in April 2025. These 70-tonne bollard pull tugs feature rapid charging technology, capable of completing multiple assignments on a single charge with full recharging in just two hours. Their adoption is expected to contribute to lower port emissions while offering cost-effective high performance harbour assistance. AD Ports JV's LNG-powered vessel makes maiden call at Khalifa Port
United Global Ro-Ro, the joint venture between Noatum Maritime (part of AD Ports Group's Maritime & Shipping Cluster) and Turkish company Erkport, has celebrated a key milestone with the maiden call of its first LNG-powered Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) at Autoterminal Khalifa Port. As the JV's inaugural deployment, the arrival of UGR Al Samha marks the beginning of United Global Ro-Ro's vision to provide sustainable, efficient, and high-capacity Ro-Ro logistics across global trade routes. Utilising Khalifa Port as its hub the deep-sea vessel is strengthening and supporting feedering links across an already robust network. The state-of-the-art vessel with a cargo capacity of more than 7,000 car equivalent units (CEU) across 12 decks, is meticulously designed to optimise high & heavy cargo transportation serving vital markets across the Middle East, Asia, and the Mediterranean. By combining LNG propulsion technology, advanced vessel design and strategic port integration, United Global Ro-Ro offers customers an economically viable and environmentally responsible shipping solution, while the vessel's reduced emissions align with the UAE's decarbonisation targets and the partners' commitment to cleaner shipping. Captain Ammar Al Shaiba, the CEO of Maritime & Shipping Cluster, AD Ports Group, said the maiden call of UGR Al Samha at Khalifa Port is not just a milestone for United Global Ro-Ro, but a significant step forward in the group's strategy of investing in vessels and technologies which reduce its impact on the environment.
