Chelsea forward Lauren James sidelined with injury sustained at Euro 2025
The team's announcement Wednesday leaves James in doubt for the Women's Super League season opener against Manchester City on Sept. 5 at Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old James left the Euro 2025 final against Spain shortly before halftime with a right ankle injury. Chelsea didn't specify a timeline for her return.
'James is now back with Chelsea and will undergo a period of rehabilitation with the club,' the team's announcement said.
James battled injuries last season but still helped Chelsea win its sixth straight WSL title en route to a domestic treble.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario (AP) — Akie Iwai was right back on top of the leaderboard in the CPKC Women's Open on Thursday, four days after her breakthrough victory in the Portland Classic. Iwai closed her afternoon round at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club with birdies on the par-4 eighth and ninth holes for a 7-under 64 and a two-stroke lead. Fifteen-year-old Canadian amateur Aphrodite Deng was tied for second with top-ranked Jeeno Thitikul, Leona Maguire, Gaby Lopez and 2023 winner Megan Khang. On Sunday in Oregon, Iwai joined twin sister Chisato as a rookie LPGA Tour winner. The 23-year-old Japanese player had second-place finishes in Thailand in February and Los Angeles in April, then watched her sister win at Mayakoba in May in Mexico. She's playing in Canada for first time. 'Really beautiful course,' said Akie Iwai, a six-time winner on the JLPGA Tour. 'Looks like something similar in Japan course.' Chisato Iwai bogeyed Nos. 8 and 9 to shoot 75. Deng was born in Calgary, Alberta, and her family lived in Montreal before moving to New Jersey for her father's work. She mostly lives now in Orlando, Florida, but remains a Canadian citizen and plays for Golf Canada's junior program. 'Just trying to hit each shot and play in the fairway,' Deng said. Thitikul played her first round since taking the top spot in the world from Nelly Korda. 'I think just like another day at work for me,' Thitikul said. Korda opened with a 69. Slumping Canadian star Brooke Henderson had four birdies and four bogeys in a 71. The 2018 champion won the last of her 13 LPGA Tour titles in January 2023. 'Just grateful we were able to get it back to even,' Henderson said. She played alongside Thitikul and Women's Scottish Open winner Lottie Woad, who shot 75. Simon Parker to make test debut as All Blacks make 5 changes for 2nd Argentina test
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has made five changes to his squad for the second Rugby Championship test against Argentina on Saturday, handing backrower Simon Parker his test debut. Parker's selection is the only change to the New Zealand starting XV. He comes in at No. 8 while Ardie Savea returns to his usual position on the openside flank. There weree four changes on the bench, where prop Tamaiti Williams and backrower Wallace Sititi will make their returns from injury. Lock Josh Lord and center Quinn Tupaea have been added to the reserves after injuries in the first test to Patrick Tuipulotu and Anton Lienert-Brown. Parker's immediate promotion to the starting lineup is a minor surprise. Robertson was expected to select the more experienced Sititi to start and to introduce Parker from the bench. Williams also was expected to start but Robertson has decided to allow both Sititi and Williams to make more cautious returns from injury. Robertson also will have been reasonably satisfied with the scrum performance of his starting pack in last weekend's 41-24 first test win at Cordoba. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Manny Machado drove in three runs against Justin Verlander and the San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Giants 8-4 on Thursday in a sloppy game. The Padres took three of four from the Giants and have won three straight going into a second straight weekend showdown against the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles swept the Padres last weekend at Dodger Stadium and comes in with a one-game lead in the NL West.
