Therefore, the NHRC has issued notices to the chief secretary and the Uttar Pradesh director general of police, seeking a detailed report in two weeks. It is expected to include the status of the investigation of the case as well as compensation, if any, provided to the next of kin of the victims, the statement said.
According to the media report, the builder dug a six-foot-deep pit about 40 days ago in the colony and left it open. The pit was filled with rainwater, it said.
In a separate statement, the NHRC said it has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that one worker died and three got injured when debris fell on them while undertaking Pune Municipal Corporation-related drainage work in a trench near Nanded City township in Maharashtra.
Reportedly, the incident happened on July 4, it said.
The rights panel has issued a notice to Maharashtra chief secretary, seeking a detailed report in two weeks.
According to the media report, the work was part of the Japan International Cooperation Agency River Improvement project, which includes building new sewage treatment plants and drainage lines in the area, the statement said.

It was a joint operation by Jalandhar counter-intelligence (CI) and Nawanshahr police, said officers. A hand grenade, a .30 calibre pistol (a prohibited bore) and ammunition were seized from the suspects. CI-Jalandhar AIG Navjot Mahal said Sonu tried to fire at police party. 'Accused shot at during seizure' Jalandhar counter-intelligence wing AIG Navjot Mahal said one of the accused in the module, Sonu Kumar alias Kali, was shot when he opened fire at a police team. The AIG claimed that a police team had taken Kali to a spot for seizing a weapon, but the accused picked up the weapon and fired at the team. "In self-defence, the police team retaliated, resulting in a bullet injury to him. He has been admitted to civil hospital, Nawanshahr," Mahal said. An FIR under sections 109, 324(5), and 61(2) of BNS and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act has been registered at Nawanshahr City police station. Agency: PTI Chandigarh, Aug 12 (PTI) Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday chaired a law and order review meeting and outreach sessions with officers of Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda and Patiala ranges ahead of Independence Day. During his day-long tour, the DGP has visited three districts including Ferozepur, Bathinda and Patiala. He issued strategic directives on counter-terror readiness, inter-district coordination, checkpoints, and continuous surveillance to ensure safe Independence Day celebrations and to eliminate the cross-border drug menace through enforcement of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act . Yadav appreciated police work on 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign and directed them to further intensify initiative to wipe out the drugs from the state.
