Kellogg's brings new cereal to the UK that shoppers say is just like discontinued favourite

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) KELLOGG's has brought a new cereal to the UK that shoppers have said is just like a discontinued favourite. Shoppers have spotted packs of Kellogg's Smacks on shelves at Morrisons for £2.50. 1 A savvy shopper spotted the new cereal on shelves at Morrisons for £2.50 a pack Credit: Snack Reviews The sweetened puff wheat cereal is already popular in the US but it's now made it across the pond. It's described as a classic crunchy breakfast cereal with a honey-sweet taste. But shoppers have also pointed out that it looks very similar to a popular discontinued cereal. A picture of the new cereal was shared on the Facebook group Snack Reviews and hundreds of people were commenting on it. Lots of commenters said how similar the new product looked to Sugar Puffs, which were discontinued in 2014. "Basically sugar puffs then lol," one person said. Another wrote: "Definitely sugar puffs!!" A third added: "They'll always be sugar puffs to me. They're puffed wheat and sugar." Sugar Puffs, which were made by Quaker Oats, were rebranded as Honey Monster Puffs with a new reformulated recipe. The new recipe had less sugar and more honey than the original Sugar Puffs. Rice Krispies brings back 'most requested' flavor for first time in 20 years – but fans will notice a big switch It came as the Government aimed to crack down on sugar content in foods marketed at children. Sugar Puffs had been around for 60 years before they were rebranded. Discontinued items that have made a comeback Brands have started a trend of bringing back popular discontinued items recently. One that got shoppers buzzing was the comeback of White Malteasers, which had been off shelves for 11 years. Customers can now buy a 30g pack for £1.05, 74g pack for £2.50 or a larger 126g sharing bag for £2.95. Meanwhile snack fans have spotted another chocolatey treat on supermarket shelves that's similar to a discontinued Cadbury product. The new Cadbury Dairy Milk Balls are said to resemble Cadbury Tasters, which first launched in 1996. Plus, the nostalgic alcopop Bacardi Breezer has also made a return to stores after being axed in 2015. The fruity alcopops were once a rite of passage for teenagers having their first alcoholic drinks or going clubbing for the first time.

Among those set to close is its store in Chard, which announced in a Facebook post that it will be closing for good on September 7. The post told customers: 'We are sorry to let you know… This store is closing. Thank you to our wonderful colleagues for your support throughout our time here in the local community.' The shop has launched a huge closing down sale, with all items now 50% off. Customers have taken to social media to share their disappointment that the store is set to close. One customer said: 'So sorry to hear that you are closing, you are all great staff, you all helped me when I was not very well in your shop thank you all again xx.' Another said: 'Shame to hear, great bunch of staff always happy and helpful.' A third added: 'What a shame, sorry to hear this.' Two other stores have also announced they will be closing. One of them is the shop in Whitchurch, Shropshire, which will close its doors for good in the coming weeks. In a post on its Facebook page it said: 'We're sadly closing our doors, but that means big savings for you. 'All stock is reduced to clear - grab up to 50% off the original price.' Devastated customers also commented on the post, as one said: 'Thank you so much for your service throughout the 11 years we've lived in Whitchurch. 'I'm absolutely gutted that you're closing down and wish you all better luck in your next jobs.' "We have loved serving you and being part of the local community.' They added: 'We hope you will pop in to see us before we close.' The news comes after The Original Factory Shop announced it is shutting three more locations. The shop in Caldicot, Wales, closed for good last week. The store in Market Drayton, Shropshire will also shut its doors for the last time on September 20. Plus The Original Factory Shop in Nairn, Scotland, has also been earmarked for closure. Meanwhile, at least four The Original Factory stores closed last month. Among them was the shop in Staveley, Chesterfield, which shut its doors for good on July 12. The shops in Caernarfon, Wales, and Bridlington, Yorkshire, closed down on July 20. Plus a final store, in Cupar, Fife, was shuttered on July 27. In total, 26 shops have closed or are set to shut this year. The Original Factory Shop did not respond to our request for comment. What is happening at TOFS? The Original Factory Shop was bought by Modella Capital, a private equity firm, in February. Modella is known for taking on struggling retailers and has also recently bought Hobbycraft and WHSmith's high street shops. The firm quickly launched a restructuring effort to renegotiate rents at 88 The Original Factory Shop stores. At the end of April, Modella drew up plans to initiate a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) for the retailer. Companies often use CVAs to avoid insolvency, which could otherwise force stores to close or trigger the collapse of the entire business. They allow firms to explore different options, such as negotiating reduced rents with landlords. But The Original Factory Shop previously told The Press and Journal that a 'number of loss-making stores would have to close' in the restructuring. Do you have a money problem that needs sorting? OTHER BENEFITS NEWS Thousands of households on old-style legacy benefits are being moved to Universal Credit via Managed Migration. The whole process is expected to be finished by 2026 after it officially began in July 2022 following a successful pilot. Households receiving one of a number of legacy benefits have been receiving letters outlining what they need to do to move across to Universal Credit. Upon receiving a migration letter, claimants are given up to three months to make the switch. Fail to do this and it could lead to you losing access to your current benefits. The DWP has already closed new claims for four legacy benefits - tax credits, income support, income-based jobseeker's allowance, and housing benefit. Households still receiving income-related employment and support allowance (ESA) are now being urged to make the move to Universal Credit. ESA provides financial support for those unable to work due to illness or disability. Initially, the government planned to transfer all ESA claimants to Universal Credit by the end of 2028. However, this deadline has since been brought forward to March 2026. Meanwhile, households on benefits like Universal Credit might be eligible for free cash via the Household Support Fund (HSF). Plus, a record 8million people are now claiming Universal Credit, the latest figures reveal. Are you missing out on benefits?
