One Soldier Killed, One Injured in Helicopter Training Mission at Fort Campbell
The training accident at Fort Campbell, a sprawling army installation that straddles the Kentucky-Tennessee border, occurred at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday, the 101st Airborne Division said in a statement.
Emergency services responded and confirmed one soldier had died. The other was evacuated to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Clarksville, Tenn., where he was in stable condition, the statement said.
The pilot and the co-pilot were the only two people on the aircraft at the time of the accident, a spokesman said in an email. Their names were not released, and the spokesman did not identify which soldier had died.
The 101st Airborne Division's statement did not say what had caused the deadly accident, which is under investigation; what exactly had happened; or what type of helicopter had been involved.
Fort Campbell is spread over 105,000 acres in parts of Trigg and Christian Counties in Kentucky, as well as Montgomery and Stewart Counties in Tennessee. The 101st Airborne Division, the Army's only air assault division, specializes in rapid deployment, often under cover of darkness. The accident took place at a training area on the Tennessee part of the base, the military said.
The base and its airborne division were at the center of a crash in March 2023, in which nine soldiers were killed when two HH-60 Black Hawk assault helicopters collided during routine training near Fort Campbell. Weeks later, in April, three crew members from the 11th Airborne Division were killed when their Apache helicopters collided in Alaska.
The two crashes prompted the U.S. Army to ground flights until squadrons completed required training. Such stand-downs are common after two or more mishaps within a short period.

A second cordon was also in place throughout Thursday on Fenhall Green and Well House Drive, about a ten-minute walk away, after the alleged murder. Durham Police confirmed the cordons were linked, and it was being treated as an isolated incident. Former Nashville officer gets probation after alleged participation in adult video while on duty
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A former Nashville police officer has been sentenced to probation on a charge of felony official misconduct after law enforcement officials say he allegedly participated in an adult video while on duty. According to court documents filed Thursday, Sean Herman entered a "best interest" plea in Nashville criminal court for one count. A second count was dismissed. Herman, 35, faces one year of supervised probation. The best interest plea means that a defendant pleads guilty while maintaining factual innocence of the crime. Additionally, he was granted judicial diversion, which means that certain eligible defendants who successfully finish probation under the judge's conditions will have their cases dismissed. They can also then request that charges be expunged from their record. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Herman was fired in May 2024 after detectives with the Specialized Investigations Divisions discovered the video and identified him while wearing his MNPD uniform. He was arrested and charged with the two counts that June. Officials say Herman can be seen taking part in a mock traffic stop in the video that was posted on OnlyFans, a site where fans pay creators for their photos and videos. The skit allegedly included Herman groping the female driver. An MNPD press release says that the video was made April 26, 2024, in a warehouse parking lot while Herman was on duty as a patrol officer. In August 2024, a state board indefinitely suspended Herman of his certification to be a law enforcement officer in Tennessee, with the understanding that he could argue to be reinstated once the criminal case is closed. Tennessee man charged for allegedly raping unconscious woman outside church before she died
Nashville police charged a man with four counts of rape after witnesses say they saw him assaulting an unconscious woman outside a church on Thursday. Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department rushed the woman to an area hospital soon after the incident, but she died after arriving. Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Mohamed Mohamed. "A Nashville Fire Department crew traveling on Nolensville Pike just after 9:30 p.m. enroute to a call saw the sexual assault taking place on a sidewalk in front of the church. They turned around and chirped their siren," the MNPD said in a statement. "As they pulled up to the sidewalk, Mohamed was attempting to pull up the unconscious victim's pants. The fire crew detained Mohamed, called for police and rendered aid to the victim," the statement continued. "Surveillance video shows the victim by herself walking unsteadily toward the front steps of the church. She was unable to keep her balance and sat down on a step, appearing to be under the influence of some type of substance. Mohamed approached and sat down beside her," police said. "Mohamed made physical contact with the victim as she went in and out of consciousness as she tried to push him away. He ultimately lifted her off the steps, put her on the ground, and repeatedly sexually assaulted her," the statement added. Police say Mohamed refused to be interviewed after being taken into custody. His bond has been set at $300,000. As of Friday, the Medical Examiner was still awaiting the results of toxicology testing in order to determine the victim's cause of death. Police have identified the victim as a 34-year-old woman who they believe was homeless. Her name has not been made public, as a police chaplain was still trying to find and notify her family.
