WRUR programme proves effective bridge between government, people

The Sun31-05-2025
ALOR GAJAH: The 'Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat' (WRUR) programme is seen as playing a crucial role as a bridge between the government and the people in efforts to resolve various issues and provide for the needs at the grassroots level.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the four WRUR series held so far have proven the effectiveness of the programme, with nearly 1,000 public complaints received and the majority of them resolved within two weeks.
'The public is definitely more confident in the existing government's administration and our concern as administrators, as we will also continue to serve the people as best we can.
'With this bridge, namely the WRUR, we can ensure that every need of the public can be addressed... this effectiveness is by the people for the people,' he told reporters here today.
He said this after officiating the closing of the Lendu State Legislative Assembly WRUR programme, which was also attended by Lendu assemblyman Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
Elaborating, Rauf said the achievements of the WRUR programme implementation also encompassed various aspects, including development, education and welfare, based on the complaints that were resolved.
He added that this was through various upcoming projects aimed at improving infrastructure, public facilities, road and drainage repairs, flood risk management and public welfare at every WRUR series, including in opposition areas.
'For the Lendu state assembly WRUR, we successfully carried out 145 projects and attended to 269 complaints, of which 183 issues were resolved within two weeks, while the rest are still being addressed.
'This includes an allocation of RM2 million that was announced for the flood retention pond rehabilitation project for the Solok Duku and Durian Daun areas, as well as several other facilities for the local community,' he said.
He added that an allocation of RM1.5 million has also been set aside for the upgrading of a shooting range and dormitory for RELA (People's Volunteer Corps) personnel, which are expected to be completed in August.
He said that complicated complaints and requests would not be pushed aside, but instead brought to the state government for comprehensive monitoring, scrutiny and coordination.
'The state government will constantly strive to ensure the people benefit directly through initiatives that not only safeguard welfare but also drive economic and social development,' he said.

[UPDATED] Don't procure 'rubbish' for GGK, King warns

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has warned against the procurement of "rubbish" assets that do not meet the Special Forces Regiment's (GGK) needs. In his royal address at the GGK's 60th anniversary celebration in Mersing, the king said the government must prioritise improving the regiment's readiness by ensuring all procurements are done carefully. Sultan Ibrahim, who is the GGK Colonel Commandant, said purchases must be based on the real needs of the user and market price, not on agents' recommendations. He said buying irrelevant or overpriced assets is wasteful and a loss to the nation. "Don't waste time buying rubbish that does not meet the military's needs. If you don't know the price, ask me first," Sultan Ibrahim said in his royal address. He said five years ago he spoke out against the procurement of a Rigid Riding Craft, which cost RM5 million, though a better boat could have been purchased for under RM2 million. "Recently, I found out there was a proposal to buy the same boat, but a slightly larger one, for almost RM10 million. This is illogical and needs to be properly reviewed," the king said. "Besides the price, the quality of the purchased goods must also be prioritised. "What happened to the combat diving pool at this camp that was supposed to be finished in 2022, but still cannot be used until now?" Sultan Ibrahim said. The delay in the construction of the diving pool at a military camp in Mersing was previously reported to be affecting the training of GGK officers and soldiers. Then, Sultan Ibrahim demanded accountability over the matter.

Decades-long wait ends as Melaka hands over 47 approval letter for railway reserve land

ALOR GAJAH: After more than 30 years, the issue involving railway reserve land in Pengkalan here has been resolved, with the Melaka government handing over 47 approval letters for state land application, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. He said the handover ceremony reflected the state government's concern in understanding the community's needs and ensuring that every policy and development project delivers a positive impact on the people's lives. "A total of 45 applications involved the Pengkalan railway reserve land that had been delayed for three decades, and two plots for temples. "Also approved was Tenaga Nasional Bhd's (TNB) application to place a substation on Plot 1, Mukim Kelemak, Alor Gajah district, which will provide electricity to residential, commercial, hospital, and government office areas, benefiting more than 3,050 users," he said today. He said this at the handover of the approval letters in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme for the Rembia state constituency, which was also attended by the coordinator for the constituency, Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan. He said this year, 96 state land applications have been approved in the district, followed by the issuance of Notice 5A by the land administrator. Notice 5A is an official document informing applicants of the fees due, including document preparation and registration costs, that they must pay to obtain the land titles. "It is on this land that new homes will be built, gardens will be filled with flowers, children will run and play, and families will gather every weekend. "Its value is not merely measured in square feet, but in the space to build a life and pass down a legacy of peace to future generations," he said. He said the state government imposes land premiums below market rates, ranging between RM9,000 and RM25,000, depending on the land size, compared to hundreds of thousands of ringgit. "A special five per cent discount is offered to Notice 5A recipients who settle payment within three months, subject to the condition that no extension requests or appeals for premium reduction are made," he added. – Bernama
