
Youth should stay away from drugs: Cluster University registrar
On the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Cluster University organised a programme, where Mr. Venkateswarlu administered oath to the students, faculty and non-teaching staff to keep away from drugs. He said that drugs will lead to several health issues and urged every individual to create awareness on the ill-effects of drug abuse.
Silver Jubilee Degree College principal G. Srinivas, meanwhile, urged students not to get addicted to drugs.

Review held to enhance administrative efficiency Kurnool GGH
Kurnool: A comprehensive review meeting was held at the Kurnool Government General Hospital on Thursday under the supervision of Hospital Superintendent Dr K Venkateswarlu. The session focused on the performance and responsibilities of the ministerial staff and hospital personnel. Key topics included punctuality, section-wise performance assessments, adherence to the Face Recognizing System (FRS), and the delivery of timely administrative and patient-related services. Dr Venkateswarlu conducted an in-depth evaluation of the ministerial staff's functioning, analysing their roles across various sections. He also scrutinised the duties of fourth-class employees and voiced displeasure regarding lapses in their responsibilities. Strict instructions were issued mandating the use of ID cards, compliance with dress code regulations, proper FRS-based attendance, and strict punctuality. The Superintendent warned that any violations in these areas would result in departmental disciplinary action. Further, the Medical Records and Transcription (MRT) section was directed to ensure the prompt issuance of reports, death certificates, and birth certificates to avoid inconvenience to patients. Emphasis was placed on attending to public grievances without delay and avoiding any negligence in service delivery. All hospital staff were instructed to remain accessible during their designated duty hours and to maintain proper documentation of files and records. The Superintendent also reviewed seat allotments within the ministerial staff and announced changes aimed at improving workflow. Deputy CS RMO Dr Padmaja, Hospital Administrator Sindhu Subrahmanyam, Administrative Officer Srinivasulu, and other hospital personnel attended the meeting.

College students take pledge against drug abuse in Tiruppur
College students took pledge to combat drug abuse and got their certificates of participation downloaded from the Central government's internet portal, while observing the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Chikkanna Government Arts College on Thursday. At an awareness seminar organised jointly by District Legal Services Authority of Tiruppur district (DLSA) and Vizhuthugal organisation, students learnt about the utility of Free Legal Aid Centre and toll-free number 15100, to combat the crime, said college principal Krishnan and Director of the organisation M. Thangavel. In her key-note address, Sub-Judge and DLSA secretary, Tiruppur district, Mohanavalli, cited data to highlight the link between drug abuse and heinous crimes. Rampant drug-abuse by youths and students was a cause for concern. Laws and sentences against drug abuse were very stringent, as terrorism across the world was mostly funded by the illicit money generated by drug mafia, the DLSA secretary said. Shajitha Rahima, Mental Health Counsellor, explained the importance of safeguarding mental health, while elaborating on how drug abuse caused deterioration of health of individuals and society at large.

Need for collective efforts to combat drug abuse emphasised
Director of Dharwad Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (DIMHANS) Arunkumar Chavan has stressed the need for collective efforts to combat drug addiction and for the creation of a healthy society. Speaking at an awareness programme held as part of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at DIMHANS on Thursday, Dr. Chavan highlighted the significance of observing this international day each year. He said that it is essential to organise extensive awareness programmes on drug abuse. While recovery is always possible, it is equally important to stop before getting addicted. He clarified that rehabilitation is not punishment but a path of hope. Dr. Chavan suggested breaking the chain of addiction by investing in preventive strategies such as school-based awareness programmes, family education, positive role models, early intervention and sustained support. Delivering a special lecture, Mahesh M. elaborated on the multifaceted nature of drug addiction and the critical role healthcare providers play in addressing the menace. Emphasising the role of pharmacists in preventing drug abuse, he said that as frontline healthcare professionals, pharmacists are in a unique position to collaborate with prescribers and mental health professionals and monitor prescriptions. They can detect misuse patterns and counsel patients on the safe use, storage, and disposal of medications, especially high-risk drugs such as opioids, sedatives and stimulants, he said. The pharmacy community should remain vigilant and proactive in their duties, he said and underlined their critical role in addressing this growing public health challenge.
