ITV's 'most expensive flop in years' fronted by David Tennant facing the axe after getting fewer viewers than niche nature documentary
Hosted by David Tennant, The Genius Game is reported to have cost £2.5 million to make, but despite the huge investment, it had average viewership numbers of 661,000 after a promising start.
This matched the viewership figures of BBC2's Pangolins: The World's Most Wanted Animal, which examines the plight of the endangered animals also known as scaly anteaters.
An insider told The Sun: 'Publicly ITV maintains that no firm decision has been taken, but most execs and commissioners view it as a disaster.
'Not only did it occupy a primetime 9pm slot, it had a big-name host and was seen as a potential rival for BBC 's The Traitors.
'But of the five main channels on June 11, it was beaten by two and equalled by BBC2, thanks to those pangolins.'
The Genius Game is intellect-based and sees contestants put their IQ to the test in never-before-seen games and manipulate each other for a cash prize, but many found it confusing and difficult to understand.
While the show had a promising 1.5 million viewers when it first aired in April, by the second episode this number had plummeted to 846,000 viewers.
To put this into context compared to other primetime TV shows, BBC1's Race Across The World attracted 4.2 million viewers at the same time.
ITV has said: 'No decision has yet been made.'
News of the show's uncertain future comes after its broadcast schedule was changed amid plummeting viewer numbers.
When it first premiered, Genius Game was set to air on Wednesday and Thursday.
But now, there was a change in the schedule and it was subsequently only broadcast on Wednesday evenings.
Jeremy Clarkson's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? celebrity specials were then moved into its Thursday slot for two weeks in May.
The shake-up meant the show was spread out over seven weeks instead of four.
It comes after many viewers during the first episode took issue with the new program and commented on how 'complicated' it seemed, with many not understanding the premise
It comes after many viewers during the first episode took issue with the program and commented on how 'complicated' it seemed, with many not understanding the premise.
Some took to social media to share their concerns and posted on X: 'Just starting this. Seems very complicated. I'll watch it out but not looking good tbh #GeniusGame.'
One watcher turned off the show in just ten minutes and penned: 'Bye bye.'
Others said: 'Sorry #GeniusGame it's a no from me, way too complicated for that time of night, I need mindless entertainment after a busy day, ITV should've just extended #CBBUK instead.'
'I'm struggling to understand. I'm clearly no genius, the rules on rules on rules are something else #GeniusGame.'

Vogue readers furious after spotting 'disturbing' AI models in an ad in the prestigious magazine
It looks like fashion label Guess is not shying away from using artificial intelligence in its ad campaigns - after the brand ran a two-page spread in this month's August edition of Vogue that was 'produced' by an AI marketing company. The advertisements appeared about halfway through Vogue's August print issue, showing a woman with bouncy, long blonde hair modeling two different outfits on separate pages. The images were not part of Vogue editorial, but instead, presumably paid advertisements for the Guess brand that appeared in the famous fashion bible. In one ad, the model sat at a café table with a cup of coffee, wearing a light blue romper covered in mesh floral detailing, as well as a gold watch and necklace from the brand. The other photo depicted the same AI model in a black-and-white chevron print dress, carrying a matching Guess handbag in front of a 'shop' filled with hats in their window. In the fine print on the side of the ad, it read that the campaign was produced by 'Seraphinne Vallora on AI.' Seraphinne Vallora is an agency that designs 'editorial level AI-driven marketing campaigns and cinematic videos,' its campaigns featured not only in Vogue but also in Elle and Harper's Bazaar. On its website, London-based founders Valentina and Andreea stated that they wanted to use AI to brands' advantage. 'We want to harness the incredible power of AI to revolutionize marketing images. We realized that AI offered a cost-effective, hassle-free path to design brilliance,' the website reads. 'No more expensive travel or complicated arrangements, We wanted to make it all accessible, to companies of all sizes. 'An easy solution to market their companies without the stress and complications.' Daily Mail reached out to Guess for comment. But the advertisement didn't seem to slip past eagle-eyed fashion fans, as it went viral on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning. Popular account Pop Crave posted a TikTok made by user @lala4an, which showed the ad. However, Pop Crave incorrectly claimed that Vogue was using the AI models - when it was in fact Guess. But even so, it looks like many fashion fans weren't happy with the choice, as they furiously responded to the Pop Crave post. 'This is kinda sad. There's so many people who would love to be on the magazine just for them to be giving these opportunities to AI…' one user wrote. Another agreed, 'That's disturbing. This is the direction AI should not be going in... wow.' 'AI is not even sparing the fashion industry,' someone else typed. One X user pointed out, 'Great. The new beauty standard will be, literally, unobtainable because it's not real.' Others, however, thought that it was a great sign for the future. 'The future is here. Takes less time and much cheaper to make,' someone shared. Another agreed, 'Well, it's cheaper.' The advertisement comes just one year after OpenAI and Vogue's publishing parent, Condé Nast, announced a partnership together, per BBC. The deal involved allowing ChatGPT and its search engine, SearchGPT, to display content from Vogue and its other publications like GQ. The deal was reported to be multi-year.

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi says Ozzy Osbourne's death is 'like losing a brother'
Ozzy Osbourne's Black Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi has revealed the rock icon's death has affected the band 'bad' as he said it feels like losing a brother Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi has said he is struggling to accept Ozzy Osbourne's death and says it has affected the band "bad". The rock icon died on Tuesday, aged 76, just weeks after his farewell concert in Birmingham. Ozzy's heartbroken family shared the sad news, as they revealed he was surrounded by love until the end. Fans and fellow musicians have flocked to share their tributes to the Prince of Darkness, including his former bandmates. Tony had known Ozzy since they met at school in Aston, Birmingham and went on their wild journey to fame together. They remained best friends for 57 years, and now Tony is trying to come to terms with Ozzy no longer being there. "It's been difficult, because it's just a shock really. I haven't been able to get myself organised properly since hearing this. It's been really strange," he said. Tony explained he has been talking to fellow Black Sabbath star Geezer Butler, who expressed similar feelings. "He's much the same, just can't pull yourself together. It really has affected us bad," he admitted. "I find it difficult at the moment to really accept that. I still think he's there, I still go to text him and stuff - [but] he's not there anymore." The band came together just over two weeks ago for Ozzy's Back to the Beginning concert in their hometown. Despite his health, Ozzy remained committed to returning to the stage for a final time. "We'd rehearse and then Ozzy came down - but we didn't want to do too much with Oz because he was under a lot of pressure," Tony explained. "And he really wanted to do it, but at the same time, we didn't want to push him into 'let's do that again'. "But I'm glad we did it, and I'm glad we did it for Oz because it really did motivate him." Tony shared how the concert gave Ozzy something to focus on and "work towards". Tony told the BBC:"It was really worth doing for all of us, for the band to be together on our final thing, not knowing Ozzy was gonna pass away shortly afterwards, but just to get together again because we've been trying to get the original four back for years." Ozzy played his epic farewell show in his hometown of Birmingham just over two weeks before his death. He was joined by huge stars across rock at his Back to the Beginning concert, where he took to the stage as a solo artist and with Black Sabbath for one last time. It saw him raise "a ton of money" for charity as Guns N' Roses, KoRn, Tool, Slayer, Pantera, Metallica, Alice In Chains, Gojira, Anthrax and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler all performed. Ozzy's death was announced by his devastated family, with a statement telling fans: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. "He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis."

Ellie Goulding, 38, flaunts her toned figure in an array of skimpy bikinis during Italian holiday amid new romance with actor, 28
Ellie Goulding left little to the imagination as she flaunted her toned figure in a series of sizzling bikini snaps during her sun-soaked holiday in Italy. The singer, 38, appears to be enjoying her summer after reportedly going public this week with actor Beau Minniear who is ten years her junior. According to The Sun Ellie and Beaum 28, debuted their romance as they attended the clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois together at Wembley on Saturday night. And on Thursday, she sent temperatures soaring as she treated her Instagram followers to a smouldering photo dump. Kicking things off in a tiny black string bikini, Ellie turned heads as she lounged on a sunbed with a book before snapping a sultry selfie. She later slipped into a green two-piece to continue basking in the sunshine, showing off her toned abs and golden glow. In another eye-catching moment, Ellie posed with a coconut in hand while rocking a Fenty bikini. Rounding out the carousel, the pop star turned up the glam in stunning day outfits and mirror selfies. 'Carbs,' she penned alongside the post. Since the breakdown of her marriage to her younger husband Caspar Jopling, 33, with whom she shares son four-year-old son Arthur, Ellie has enjoyed a string of romances. According to The Sun Ellie is thought to have met actor Beau- who has a string of small acting parts in TV and film in the US - earlier this year. Last week she reportedly teased a romance with him with a cryptic TikTok video posted to her socials. The publication claims she shared a clip stroking a man's arm, with the caption: 'Just a little something to take the edge off.' The video is no longer on her TikTok account. Her fans reportedly noticed that the watch the man was wearing in the clip matched one Beau regularly wears in Instagram snaps. They also reportedly noticed they both posted photos last week from the same hotel in Florence - before attending the boxing match together. A source told the publication: 'Ellie is into Beau and they have a lot of shared interests like exercise and art. 'They've been having fun together and they certainly make for an attractive couple.' A representative for Ellie has been contacted by MailOnline for comment. The star previously dated hunky surf instructor Armando Perez, 29, who she sought comfort with following the breakdown of her marriage. They met in late 2023 in Costa Rica where the songstress had rented a swanky villa with pals after secretly separating from her partner after five years. Ellie and Armando were first introduced when he gave her surf lessons, after previously teaching Shakira, 48, before pictures emerged of them passionately kissing and she was forced to confirm publicly that her marriage was over. The hunk and his brother Gero run the $70-a-night La Puente Surfhouse and hostel on the west coast of the Central American paradise. Ellie made numerous trips from her home in the UK to Costa Rica over the following months which she documented on Instagram, including a string of stunning bikini snaps. According to the El Observador newspaper, she made this trip as many as six times over just five months, typically staying a week at a time, sometimes longer. With the couple enjoying further private lessons, as well as shopping trips and dinner dates. An Insider told The Sun at the time: 'Ellie and Armando seemed very into each other. When Armando wasn't teaching Ellie, he couldn't keep his hands off her and pulled her in for a hug and a kiss'. 'Ellie looked blissfully happy and was laughing and joking with him as they messed around in the sea.' Antonio is also believed to have also visited Ellie in London on at least one occasion, reportedly watching her perform to a live crowd from backstage. One friend said: 'Amando and Ellie were very attracted to one another. Despite the age gap, they struck up an instant chemistry when he gave her private surfing lessons. The star previously dated hunky surf instructor Armando Perez, 29, (pictured L) who she sought comfort with following the breakdown of her marriage. 'They soon formed a bond and loved spending time together - Ellie loved hanging out on the beach with Armando to get away from everything that was going on back home after her marriage had come to an end. [Armando was used to spending his days instructing in the water and running around barefoot in swim shorts, and was more comfortable enjoying his 'quiet life' without the 'drama' of being in the public eye, the source added. 'They had a very special time together and she visited the country a lot. 'But they are from very different backgrounds. She is a big pop star from England while Armando's whole life is based here in Playa Hermosa. He loves it here and I doubt he would have any plans to leave. 'Their lives are very different and so it was natural for them both to eventually move on. But they still remain great friends.' Ellie and her art dealer ex Caspar were reportedly living separate lives for at least six months before announcing their split, despite trying to work things out for the sake of their son. They married in August 2019 at York Minster with A-list guests including Sienna Miller, Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry. Their split was first rumoured in June 2023, when sources claimed they were 'living apart'. After weeks of discussions about how they would reveal their separation, the pop star's team finally revealed they had been spending time apart - blaming their 'hectic schedules' for the demise of their marriage.
