Man Utd new boy Benjamin Sesko hoping to emulate his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Manchester United's latest signing Benjamin Sesko is hoping to emulate his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the club's famous shirt. Slovenia international Sesko completed his move to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig at the weekend in a deal worth up to £73.7million. The 22-year-old revealed in his first interview on MUTV that former United striker Ibrahimovic, who spent almost two years at Old Trafford until 2018, was his hero. Sesko said: 'Since I've been small I've been watching him. Every single YouTube video that I can find because he's amazing for me. 'We don't have the same character, but I like to see the way he plays, the way he enjoys football, how everything works. 'It has been my dream to one day meet him, that would be great, so in general, he's my idol. 'We have a different playing style, but if there is any situation, I try to do the same as he did.' Sesko, who has made 41 senior appearances for his country, scored 21 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season. He also revealed he admired other former United strikers, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney. 'Van Persie and Rooney, all those kind of guys,' Sesko said. 'I've also been watching them, of course, on the videos. They have been great. 'You can admire them a lot and I will also try to show myself in a good light here and try to help the team and the club to be as high as possible.' United completed their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years after finishing 15th in the Premier League table last season, but Sesko is convinced good times lie ahead. Head coach Ruben Amorim's attacking options have also been boosted by the summer arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. 'For me the team is great, it's getting better and better,' Sesko said. 'I think it's just a great project in general and I can't wait to start, definitely. 'Together you can grow a lot. It can give you a lot of fresh power, fresh energy and I think it's going to be exciting in general.' On his hopes for his first season at Old Trafford, Sesko added: 'Just that we get better, that we connect together in general and as a team try to grow and grow together, step by step. 'It's just a matter of time when we can fly high again.'

Richard Kone set for QPR move after fee agreed with Wycombe

Richard Kone has agreed to join Queens Park Rangers from Wycombe Wanderers in a deal worth at least £2.75m. The two clubs are currently finalising add-ons, but the principles of an agreement have been struck in a coup for QPR to land the talented forward. The 22-year-old also had interest from Leicester City, Preston North End and Toulouse, but has instead opted to join QPR, who have successfully sold their ambitious project amid a summer of hugely productive business at Loftus Road. Kone's career took a huge step last season, after a series of fine performances saw him named League One player of the year, as well as young player of the year. Kone scored 18 goals in League One, though Wycombe fell short in their push to secure promotion to the Championship, eventually losing to Charlton Athletic in the play-off semi-finals. Kone moved to Adams Park from Essex Senior League outfit Athletic Newham in January last year following a successful trial. And with a year remaining on his current deal, Wycombe are set to lose their star man after losing both games to start the season. Wycombe boss Mike Dodds had reiterated the club's stance just last week, confirming offers had been made and that the player had returned to training after being omitted from the squad due to interest. Dodds did concede that should a club 'meet the valuation' of the player, a move away could follow, with QPR now reaching that point. Kone play Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, but an away trip to Watford could offer the chance for Kone to make his debut.

Barcelona and Villarreal close to staging controversial LaLiga match in United States

Barcelona and Villarreal have moved a step closer to playing a league game in the United States in December. The Spanish football federation (RFEF) confirmed it had given approval to a request from the clubs on Monday. The federation said in a statement: "After receiving and checking the documentation received, and after the approval of the board of directors, the RFEF will submit to Uefa the request to begin the procedures for the subsequent authorisation by Fifa for the match to be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on December 20, 2025, in accordance with the Fifa international match regulations and the implementing rules approved by the RFEF." If LaLiga is successful, it will become the first of Europe's 'Big Five' leagues to stage one of its matches outside its own territory. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said in April last year his competition had no plans to move matches overseas but accepted Fifa moves to review the rules meant the "door was ajar" for other leagues to do so. Fifa first said it was considering changing its authorisation rules on such matches in a statement following a settlement it agreed with Relevent Sports in a court case in the United States in April 2024. The following month, Fifa said it was forming a working group to "consider a revised legal framework" governing the authorisation of matches played overseas. Supporter groups associated with Barcelona and Villarreal issued a post on social media alongside the Spanish football supporters' association (FASFE), saying they wanted to "express our absolute, total and firm opposition" to playing the match overseas. They urged the Spanish football federation and the national sports council (CSD) to "stop this madness". The fan groups' statement concluded by warning that, if the project went ahead, they would "take appropriate legal action to prevent it".
