Engaged couple die hours apart in separate crashes - leaving behind young son

An engaged couple from Louisiana were tragically killed in separate road traffic collisions just hours apart, leaving behind a four-year-old son.
Alexus Lee, 25, and John 'JR' Collins, 35, had just recently purchased a home together and were due to get married next February.
But tragedy struck, and the couple were killed in separate crashes less than two hours apart in the early hours of Friday morning (May 16).
The first fatal collision occurred just after 2am in East Baton Rouge Parish, where Lee was driving north on LA 67 near Lemon Road.
According to a news release shared by the Louisiana State Police, Lee was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander when the vehicle veered off the road, hit a culvert and overturned.
"Lee was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased on the scene," a police spokesperson said in a statement. "Impairment is unknown; however, a routine toxicology sample was collected for analysis."
When investigators notified Lee's fiancé, Collins, he left to go to the crash site when troopers said he lost control of his car on Plank Road just outside the town of Clinton.
"The preliminary investigation revealed that Collins was traveling south on LA 67 at a high rate of speed in a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro," Louisiana State Police said. "As a result, the vehicle failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, exited the roadway to the left, and struck a tree.
"Collins was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Impairment is not suspected; however, a toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Both crashes remain under investigation."
The couple leave behind a four-year-old son called Gabriel and two grieving families who can't understand how this tragedy befell them.
"I love them and I'm gonna miss both of them and I'm gonna find the strength to go ahead," Collins' father Arthur told WAFB.
"Losing Lexus just different. It was a different feeling, and it's like I know a part of me gone," said Lee's sister Dominque.
Collins' mother Sandra said that the couple's son Gabriel understands what happened to his parents as she vowed that the family would care for the youngster.
"He understands what happened, and he's just having a little problem comprehending that we can't talk to them," she told WAFB.
"We can't see them, but he understands that they are asleep and are with God."

Shot dead on sofa & set on fire as her toddler slept upstairs… chilling murder of mum, 22, left unsolved for two decades

Cops have continued to urge anyone with specific information to come forward DEATH RIDDLE Shot dead on sofa & set on fire as her toddler slept upstairs… chilling murder of mum, 22, left unsolved for two decades THE cruel murder of Lucy Hargreaves sent chills across the nation when it was first reported. The Liverpudlian, 22, was shot dead as she lay on her sofa by three men and subsequently set on fire at her home in Walton, Liverpool, on 3 August 2005. Advertisement 4 Lucy was killed in August 2005 when three men burst into her home Credit: PA 4 The family of Lucy Hargreaves, 22, have appealed for anyone with information to come forward Credit: PA The intruders then set fire to the home in Lambourne Road, while the victim's partner, Gary Campbell and two-year-old daughter cheated death by escaping through an upstairs window. Police arrested 21 people as part of their investigations, but no-one has been convicted for their role in Lucy's tragic death. It's believed the gang were looking for Mr Campbell. Campbell had allegedly been a passenger in a stolen car that had hit and killed a young boy 12 years earlier, supposedly the motive for the shooting. Advertisement He denied he was in the car at the time. Cops have continued to urge anyone with information about a gold Lexus car which was reportedly dumped following the shooting to come forward. A cluster of men are believed to have discarded the motor on Richard Kelly Drive, Clubmoor. The individuals then raced towards Normandale Road. Advertisement Detectives previously pointed to Kevin Thomas Parle as a person of interest. Parle, who was believed to be living abroad, was also wanted in connection with the killing of 16-year-old Liam Kelly who was murdered in June 2004 in Dingle, Liverpool. Three charged with murder after boy, 19, stabbed to death in Powerleague football car park Howard Rubbery, head of the Serious Crime Review Unit at Merseyside Police, said: "The family remain absolutely devastated by Lucy's death. "It's important to note Lucy is an absolutely innocent victim. She's not from a family of criminality. She wasn't involved in criminality. Advertisement "The hunt for Kevin Parle is very much on, and we ask anybody with information, anybody who is close to Parle and knows where he is, to please come forward. "There were three males responsible for this offence and we are looking for justice for Lucy's family in relation to all three. "I do believe that there are people out there who have yet to speak to the police, even though it's 20 years on, who hold information that's absolutely vital to our investigation." Two decades on from Lucy's death, her brave family released a previously unshared photograph of the mother-of-three, taken at college. Advertisement They said: "Over the past 20 years, people will have talked with family and friends. "A number of people were contacted by males using a phone that was stolen, along with a vehicle used in Lucy's murder. "The people who received those calls, along with others, could have information which could be crucial in achieving justice for Lucy, her parents, sister, children and all her extended family and friends. "We appeal directly to them to please come forward. Advertisement "Now is the time." Ms Hargreaves' family, who said they "miss her every single day", welcomed a focus on tackling violence against women and girls in recent years. They praised the families of other victims of gun crime, including the mothers of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt Korbel and Ashley Dale, 28, who were shot in their homes in separate incidents in Liverpool in August 2022. The family said: "We greatly admire the determination and guts of the families of those who have more recently been killed as a result of gun crime here in Merseyside. Advertisement "The mums of both Ashley Dale and Olivia Pratt Korbel have led a real and powerful community challenge to men of violence." The family added: "We consider ourselves to be an ordinary local family with strong roots in the Walton, Norris Green, Croxteth and Dovecot areas of Liverpool. "Lucy's nanny Joyce was a strong mother of eight who had to cope with the loss of three granddaughters in her lifetime - including Lucy. "Her nanny Betty, left a widow aged 35 with six children to bring up, was awarded the British Empire Medal for her services to nursing as an auxiliary nurse in the Royal Liverpool Hospital. Advertisement "They were two strong local women typical of their generation, and Lucy too was a strong woman who could have achieved so much had she only been given the opportunity." 4 Police previously said they wanted to speak to Kevin Thomas Parle in connection with Ms Hargreaves' murder Credit: NCA

Fermanagh farmer convicted over animals in 'poor condition'

A Co. Fermanagh farmer has been convicted in court over the condition of animals on his farm. 78-year-old Wesley Lee of Cleenish Road, Cleenish, Bellanaleck, Enniskillen was today (Wednesday, August 6) convicted at Enniskillen Court on two charges under the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 and one under the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013. Lee was convicted on: Two charges of failure to ensure the needs of animals were met; One charge of failure to produce a medicine record when required. The farmer was convicted and fined £600 plus £15 offender levy and £72 summons fee. The case arose following numerous welfare inspections carried out by Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) Veterinary Service officials between April 13, 2023 and September 4, 2023. During these inspections, one sheep was found to be caught on briars and was euthanised by a DAERA veterinary officer as, in their opinion, it was suffering unnecessarily. There were a number of lame animals and animals in poor condition on the premises being kept in dirty conditions without access to clean drinking water. There was no evidence of suitable pens for calving or suitable isolation pens for sick or injured animals and young calves had no access to dry lying areas. During one of the inspections, one of the sick animals died. Lee was asked to provide medicine records to demonstrate treatment of the lame and sick animals seen, but was unable to provide such. DAERA has stated that it gives high priority to the welfare of animals and operates a vigorous enforcement policy to ensure full compliance of regulatory requirements. Any breaches are investigated thoroughly and offenders prosecuted as necessary, it added. The improper use of medicines in animals presents a risk to human health, DAERA has stressed. This is of particular relevance when it comes to observing withdrawal times of medicines administered to animals which are subsequently slaughtered for human consumption. The main areas for concern are: The slaughter for human consumption of an animal before the recommended withdrawal period has been observed for drugs which may themselves have direct side effects in humans; The slaughter of animals entering the food chain containing a drug to which human pathogens are capable of developing a resistance which may reduce the effectiveness with which human diseases can be controlled by a drug. If proper medicine records are not kept, there is a risk of animals which have been treated, but whose withdrawal periods have not been observed, being slaughtered for human consumption, or sold on to another herd from which they will be slaughtered for human consumption without withdrawal times being observed.

Father who fell to death at Oasis Wembley show was a ‘lifelong fan'

The father of a 'lifelong fan' who fell to his death at the end of an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium has said the whole family is 'devastated'. Landscape gardener Lee Claydon, 45, of Bournemouth, Dorset, died following the incident at the London event on Saturday, according to his family. Speaking at his Bournemouth home, Clive Claydon, 75, told the PA news agency: 'He was a lovely bloke, loved to be with his family – a hard-working family man, he loved his kid, looked after them really well.' He added: 'He had everything going for him. I am so devastated, I have been to the doctor for tablets and everything to get over it.' He said that Lee, who is a father of one and was set to go on holiday with his family soon to Turkey, had gone to the concert with his brother and his brother's children, might have had a 'couple of beers' but had not taken any drugs. Mr Claydon said: 'He doesn't take drugs, he may have had a couple of beers but who hadn't there, people have said horrible things but it was just an accident.' Mr Claydon said that he was concerned about the safety measures at Wembley but added his son's brother and family had not seen the accident happen. 'It must have been horrific,' he said. 'All I know is there was beer everywhere, it's slippery, he slipped apparently, we do not know the rest of it, there's questions about the barriers.' He added: 'Of all the thousands of people there, it had to be my son.' A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said: 'Wembley Stadium operates to a very high health and safety standard, fully meeting legal requirements for the safety of spectators and staff, and is certified to and compliant with the ISO 45001 standard. 'We work very closely and collaboratively with all relevant event delivery stakeholders – including event owners, local authorities, the Sports Grounds Safety Authority and the police – to deliver events to high standards of safety, security and service for everyone attending or working in the venue.' The Health and Safety Executive has been informed. The Metropolitan Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident, or have mobile phone footage, to come forward. A fundraising page, which has been set up to help raise money for Mr Claydon's partner and son, has already reached over £2,000 (€2,300). 'Our family has been turned upside down and are struggling to deal with this devastation and unexpected loss,' Aaron Claydon wrote on the page. 'Lee was a loving family man who was a role model to his son. 'Lee would have done anything for any of us and he was taken from us far too soon, and we will miss him so very much. 'Lee loved all outdoor activities, one of his favourite hobbies was fishing. He also loved music and his guitar. He also really enjoyed going to watch and support the boys and his nephew at their football games.' The fall happened during a run of stadium shows for the band's sell-out Live '25 reunion tour – their first since splitting in 2009. Oasis said in a statement: 'We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show. 'Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.'
