Ex-Man Utd star 'pushes' current team to sign player released by Ruben Amorim
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is attempting to bring Victor Lindelof to Serie A side Fiorentina following his release from Old Trafford, reports claim.
Defender Lindelof was released by United boss Ruben Amorim at the end of last season following eight seasons with the club.
He still managed 25 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils last season but only started six times in the Premier League, signalling the end of his time in Manchester.
Lindelof proved to be a valuable member of the United squad during his spell as he made 284 appearances and won two trophies.
The 30-year-old will now be looking ahead to his next chapter after becoming a free agent and Fiorentina have become an option for him.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Lindelof's former United team-mate is "pushing" to bring the centre-back to the Viola.
The pair spent six years together at United and De Gea's involvement in the deal comes after he himself revitalised his career after joining the club - playing 42 times for the team and making some fabulous saves.
The report says Fiorentina are ready to offer Lindelof a contract at the club, knowing he can be snapped up for free.
It adds that the club feel the Sweden star would offer "valuable experience" as well as back-up following the exits of Matias Moreno and Nicolas Valentini.
Should Lindelof join the club, he will be playing in the UEFA Conference League after the club finished sixth in Serie A last season.
Along with De Gea, Lindelof would also be playing alongside former Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko and ex-Everton star Moises Kean.
Lindelof was one of three senior players who were released by Manchester United at the end of the campaign, including Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans.

Daniel Farke: Leeds' Jack Harrison has won team-mates over after two years away
Harrison's return to Elland Road this summer has divided opinion among supporters after he spent two seasons on loan at Everton following Leeds' top-flight relegation. The 28-year-old, booed by a section of sceptical Whites fans during pre-season, could face his former club on Monday night when the two sides launch their Premier League campaigns at Elland Road. Jack Harrison made 73 appearances in total for Everton during his two-season loan (Scott Wilson/PA) Farke said: 'I can confirm Jack definitely has already won the staff and all the players back because his behaviour was top class. He's working very hard and is an unbelievably nice team-mate. 'Right now it's up to him. With good performances and hard work he can win the trust of supporters back. 'Our supporters have a good feeling if someone really works for this club and I'm pretty sure he'll grab his chance with both hands.' Harrison signed a five-year deal with Leeds in 2023, but after scoring five goals in 73 appearances in total during his two-season stay at Everton, he was widely expected to depart Elland Road this summer. 📰 Leeds United can confirm Jack Harrison has decided to re-join Everton on loan, ahead of the 2024/25 season. — Leeds United (@LUFC) June 24, 2024 Farke added: 'Jack is a proven Premier League player, a good age, top character, and hard working. 'Mixed reactions are normal once a player goes away on loan, it was similar with Brenden Aaronson. 'Everyone was in doubt when he came back and he's proven he wants to work his socks off for this club and he has won all our supporters back.' Leeds' latest signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin could also face his former club on Monday. The 28-year-old became the club's eight summer arrival since winning the Sky Bet Championship title in May, signing a three-year deal as a free agent following his departure from Everton at the end of the season. All new recruits barring suspended defender Jaka Bijol are in contention for their Leeds debuts. Farke, still keen to add a full-back and further strengthen his attack before the transfer window closes on September 1, is hoping Jayden Bogle can recover from a hip flexor issue in time for the opening match.

Truth behind Viktor Gyokeres transfer and why Manchester United move collapsed
Viktor Gyokeres was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and a potential reunion with Ruben Amorim, but the striker ultimately ended up joining Arsenal Ruben Amorim and Viktor Gyokeres are set to face off for the first time when Manchester United host Arsenal in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford. Gyokeres spent almost two years playing under Amorim at Sporting, netting 66 goals in 68 games across all competitions. However, Amorim left Sporting last year to take over at Old Trafford and Arsenal have now forked out around £64million to bring Gyokeres to the Emirates. The Swedish striker had been heavily linked with a potential reunion with Amorim at United, but that did not materialise. And according to a new report from the Daily Mail, United did not even make an approach for Gyokeres as they believed the 27-year-old had his heart set on a move to Arsenal. The report notes that United did not want to lose another transfer battle after missing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also said to have been convinced after just one phone call with Gyokeres that the player only wanted to join the Gunners and United ended up spending £74million to bring in Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig instead. "That is a question for Mikel," Amorim said when asked about Gyokeres ahead of Sunday's clash. "Viktor is in a different league, the physicality is different. "In Sporting, they have a very good group of scouting, because we get from that the players that they can buy and then sell to survive. I think he's a very good player, he's going to give different characteristics. "It's going to be different if we face in the beginning of the game if we face Viktor or Havertz, for example. So, we need to be prepared for that, but it's not a surprise to watch Viktor in a big club in England." Amorim is more focused on his own new-look attack, with Sesko joined by Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. When asked about his potential new front three, Amorim said: "First of all, we have more than three. "They are fighting for the places. I'm really happy. I think he has great potential. In everything he does. He can play different types of football. "He's going to feel that the Premier League is really aggressive, he's going to learn, but he has a great potential and I can see Ben being a striker for Manchester United for a lot of years. That's why we paid so much money to have a striker that will have his history in our club."
