Dundee United learn Conference League draw fate as potential Rapid Vienna blockbuster lies in wait

United learned who they will face in the next round, should they advance, after today's draw in Nyon
Dundee United will face either Decic from Montenegro or Austrian giants Rapid Vienna if they advance past UNA Strassen to reach the Conference League third qualifying round.

Jim Goodwin 's team are back at the European table after their fourth-placed finish last term and face the Luxembourg minnows at Tannadice this Thursday before the return leg away from home next week.

They are heavy favourites to advance and, if they do so, they have learned who lies in wait in the next round of qualifying.

After today's draw in Nyon, United learned they will face either Montenegro minnows Decic or, more likely, Rapid if they make it through.
It sets up a potential blockbuster draw for the Tangerines should they make it – and boss Goodwin is certainly confident of a win to take them through to the next round.
He says his players are as fit as he's seen them after a pre-season camp in the Netherlands.
He said: "It's a really important time in the season for us to bring the boys away, where we can spend some real quality time together, not just on the training pitch.
"An opportunity like this to go abroad and for the players to be mingling all the time throughout the day, it's a good chance for them all to get to know each other really.
"It's been double and triple sessions for the players, lots of fitness work but also a really good opportunity for me to get the message across to the players in terms of how we want to play.

"The players are all desperate to get started now. Fitness wise they look fantastic,
"I don't remember in the ten years of being a manager, working with a group of players so physically fit so early on.
"There was a big emphasis on trying to reduce the age of the team but also to bring better athleticism to the squad, better mobility, better pace, all of these things really important to be able to handle the demands of our busy schedule.
"I think we've put ourselves in a really strong position at this time."

I see conflicting Celtic transfer strategies at play and board have five weeks to get back on Brendan Rodgers' wavelength

Jacko told Hotline Live that the Parkhead hierarchy face a losing battle if they don't match their manager's ambition The Celtic board have five weeks to match Brendan Rodgers ' ambition or they could be facing a losing battle when it comes to the boss signing a new contract. ‌ Seemingly competing transfer strategies at Parkhead were discussed on Record Sport's Hotline Live tonight, and our man Keith Jackson reckons things could come to a head if Rodgers feels those above him have played it safe with signings. ‌ The champions splashed £26million on new faces last summer as Rodgers was well backed to bring in the Bhoys he wanted. ‌ Arne Engels was a club record fee with Adam Idah not far behind, while Auston Trusty wasn't exactly cheap at £6million. The trio helped deliver two trophies and crucially for Rodgers, progression in the Champions League. but not everyone is sold on the decision to spend big given what they've seen. And Keith suspects the Parkhead hierarchy have perhaps started to revert back to a more frugal policy this summer, which if it continues with Celtic having a playoff showdown to negotiate to unlock the Champions League riches this season, then this could be Rodgers' last at the helm with his deal up in the summer. "They just need to match his ambition," he said. "I don't think there's a number that Celtic need to spend above it or below it and that would change anything. "It's entirely a matter of Brendan Rodgers identifying the players he believes will make his first team stronger and Champions League ready, as far as any Scottish team can be Champions League ready. "And then Celtic's board showing the same level of ambition and commitment, going out there and getting the deals done. That's the key part. ‌ "This talk of £1.5m bids (for Go Ahead Eagles winger Jakub Breum) smacks of the first-tier transfer strategy or philosophy that we think Celtic's board might be employing this summer - which gets away from how Brendan Rodgers wants it done. "That is taking more of a risk, being prepared to pay a bigger premium and hope that you get your financial return on that. ‌ "His problem is, he spent £26m last summer and I'm not sure that any one of the three players Celtic signed would turn a profit if the board decided to sell them tomorrow. "That's where it conflicts with the well-known model that Celtic's board have employed over the years. "They went a different way last summer, but Brendan Rodgers can conversely point to the amount of money they got in through the Champions League to justify that that money was spent. ‌ "There's a lot of potential in Arne Engels, same with Adam Idah but he has a lot to prove this season. Aaron Trusty could have a big season, and Brendan Rodgers has proven he can improve players if he's given time to work with them. "But these are ones that count against the Brendan Rodgers model. "We now have five weeks until the end of the transfer window, and these will be five make-or-break weeks in terms of Brendan Rodgers and his relationship with the Celtic board. Not so much personal relationship, but his working relationship. "They will have to show signs before the end of this transfer window that they are prepared to match his ambition. If they don't do that, then persuading Brendan Rodgers to commit for the longer haul is going to be difficult."

Marcus Rashford makes telling Man Utd comment after completing Barcelona transfer

Barcelona have announced the signing of Marcus Rashford on a season-long loan and the departed Manchester United forward has been speaking after he was unveiled at the Nou Camp Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on loan with a dig at Manchester United by saying: 'I feel at home here – it's where dreams come true.' Rashford secured the move after falling out with United boss Ruben Amorim, who exiled him last season and decided he was not part of his future plans. ‌ Barcelona will cover Rashford's wages in full next season – saving United around £12million – and have an option to buy him for £26m at the end of the loan deal. Speaking at the Nou Camp, Rashford said: 'I'm very excited. It's a club where people's dreams come true. They win big prizes and what the clubs stands for really means a lot to me. ‌ 'It feels like I'm at home and this is a big factor in my choice to come here, because it's a family club, people are comfortable here and it's a good place for players to showcase their skills. I want to say thank you for the warm welcome. It's a different environment for me but it feels like home. ‌ 'I'm full of excitement and hunger to go out and help this club win. They won so much last year and I can see the ambition is to do better than last year and that is what you want to hear as a player. 'It keeps you improving year on year and that's what you need to be - the best version of yourself. So I'm very excited to be here, eager to get the games going and I'm enjoying every minute of it. 'I always try to make decisive actions - fast, dynamic plays and I always like good football, so I have always been a fan of watching Barcelona play from a young age, like most football fans. It's going to be a joy for me to play here and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it.' Rashford, who hopes the move will see him make England's World Cup squad for next year's tournament in the US, revealed the role Barca coach Hansi Flick played in making the move happen. 'Another key factor of the reason that I'm here is the conversations I had with him,' said Rashford. 'They were very positive. Last year and throughout his career he's proved he's one of the top coaches and to lead such a young team to a very successful season and coming back to still want to do more - it showed me everything that I thought I knew about the club. 'Now, to be here, it's everything I wished and thought. I'm eager to get going and learn the Barcelona way and be ready for the games.' ‌ Will Marcus Rashford be a success at Barcelona? Give us your prediction in the comments section. Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he scored four goals before injury ended his campaign early. The 27-year-old was dropped by Amorim for the derby against Manchester City last December and never played for United again. ‌ Despite offloading Rashford, United are braced to start the new season without a new striker leading their attack. A striker was the priority in this summer's transfer window, after United scored just 44 goals in the Premier League last season. But the only two arrivals so far have been £62.5m signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £71m, neither of whom are a No.9. United have seen their top striker targets go elsewhere this summer – Liam Delap joined Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres is closing in on a move to Arsenal, while Hugo Ekitike is Liverpool-bound. Against that backdrop, Amorim fears there is every chance United will start their Premier League opener at home to Arsenal on August 17 without a new striker. A swap deal involving winger Alejandro Garnacho – left out of the US tour squad after asking to leave – and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, both valued at £40m, is an option. Garnacho wants to stay in the Premier League, with Chelsea his first-choice club, although there is a reluctance at United to sell him to a domestic rival in a move that could ultimately backfire. Jackson has been pushed down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Delap from Ipswich and Joao Pedro from Brighton, both of whom are ahead of him in terms of selection. Midtjylland boss blames cocky Hibs claim on someone else as he insists Europa League clash is anything but easy

Thomas Thomasberg has walked big his assertion that the Danes would take care of the Hibees over two legs Midtjylland boss Thomas Thomasberg has reversed ferreted on his cocky claim his side will ease past Hibs – and even tried to blame someone else for saying it., writes Scott Burns in Denmark. ‌ In the aftermath of the Europa League draw, Thomasberg boasted the Danes will progress into the third qualifying round. ‌ But now he has stated David Gray' s side will present a stern challenge for his team. ‌ Thomasberg said: 'I have a feeling that somebody says it was an easy draw for us. Not at all. 'But we knew at that time we could have met Besiktas and Utrecht. 'Still with respect, I think that has been a tough opponent. But we also know that this will be tough. 'We are ready for what is waiting for us. Of course we have the experience. We have tried it before. 'Now it's the first one because when you need to go to the group stage, you play almost six weeks. 'Weekend and midweek. I think our players are used to it. But I also know that they have been waiting for this game. ‌ 'So they are looking forward to it. I know they will put everything in they can, with heart and brain.' The 50-year-old is now in his third season with Midtjylland and in his second spell as their manager. He knows the job comes with expectations, but is also well aware of possible European pitfalls. ‌ Thomasberg warned: 'Yesterday I saw Copenhagen. They suffered for a long period against a team from Kosovo (Drita). We know all games in Europe and teams have quality. 'We are really prepared and ready for a hard game.' He wants Midtjylland to make full use of home advantage. Thomasberg admitted: 'We're looking forward to the game. It's always a part of the club to be in Europe. ‌ 'We want to go to the group stage every year. This is the first game there and hopefully we can perform well. 'Hopefully, we can get a good start at home. A good start is of course a win. If it's possible to win with more than one. 'It is also about getting a lot of good in Europe. To get to the group stage. Because that's also a part of the way this club will go. So it is very important for us. ‌ 'And no matter who it is in these qualification games. There is only one aim. To get to the next round.' There is a slight element of the unknown for the Danes, as Hibs have still to play a competitive game. Thomasberg, though, is confident he will have every eventuality covered. He knows the threat of strikers Martin Boyle and Thibaut Klidge. ‌ He explained: ' Right now we have analysts who have had a good look at it. I have watched two games myself. 'They are a good and strong team. We need to do our best to get through to the next round. 'I have seen the game against Essen. There was a good atmosphere at the stadium, I think it was the club's 150th anniversary. ‌ 'I have watched some of the games last season. I think it was a home game against Rangers 2-2 at the end of the season. 'They are a good and strong team. They had a very good period after a tough start last season. 'I think they have players who really play with their hearts. They have good offensive players. 'They can get in the box well on set pieces. Like we always are saying, we can't underestimate them.'
