Actress Ashley Park has become a target of online backlash following certain remarks on Pope Leo XIV over his election as the first-ever American leader of the Catholic Church. Ashley, who is currently present in Rome and busy with the shooting of Emily in Paris Season 5, found herself amid the momentous occasion as the Pope is ready to lead the Vatican.
Taking to her Instagram stories (now deleted), Ashley on Friday shared a video capturing her experience in Rome amid the election of the new Pope. The 33-year-old even expressed her views on why the appointment is such a big deal in the city. 'It's my first day filming in Rome, and they just chose the Pope. Does anyone care?" Ashley asked her hair and makeup artist, Carole Nicolas, who sarcastically responded, 'Fantastic," leaving everyone laughing. The actress continued giggling over the comments and added, 'Fantastic, the Pope. We're in a trailer, so you can't tell we're in Rome, but we're here, and we heard the church bells ringing!
The commentary didn't just end here, as the Emily in Paris star shared another video where she appeared to be mocking the Pope. 'Mindy's first day back filming # EmilyInParis season 5! No, I wasn't late. Yes, the conclave picked the Pope (woooo!). Yes, the traffic was crazyyyy, and yes, I love romaaaaa," she wrote.
While some of Ashley Park's fans loved her playful attitude on the show's sets, others appeared displeased with her comments. One wrote, 'So sad! You should apologise," while another added, 'Have the decency to apologise."
Another comment read, 'Keep it. Some of us care more about the pope than this show." A user added similar comments with, 'Yes, the Catholics picked a pope, and billions care around the world! It's not always about you. You are not in your country; a little respect."
Amid the much criticism and backlash on social media, it is yet to be seen if it will affect the actress.
