Prince William admits to posting anonymously in fan forums
The Prince of Wales has revealed he posts anonymously on Aston Villa fan forums.
William told The Sun during the interview at Villa's training ground, that he fell in love with the Premier League club after being taken to matches by family friends when he was younger.
'With the camaraderie among the fans and the chanting and the singing, I just felt like I belonged there,' he said.
These days, his match day superstitions involve moving his children around the house to bring good luck when games are not going Villa's way.
The prince was at Villa Park on Wednesday evening to see his team qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals, beating Belgian outfit Club Brugge 3-0 to seal a 6-1 win on aggregate.
When he's not there, he revealed he likes 'going on the forums'.
'I can be on there for ages. I listen to what other fans have to say and give them my opinions. I get quite into it, definitely. It's important to have that debate,' he said.
His interest grew when Villa were relegated to the Championship in 2016, a few years after finishing sixth in the Premier League.
'The rise of the smartphone' made him even more invested as it became possible to track and discuss a team's progress all the time, he added.
'I'd grown up looking at Ceefax on the television or the back pages of newspapers and if you didn't have those to hand you were a bit out of the loop,' he said.
His children have Villa shirts, among others, but he is not forcing them to support his team, he said.
He told The Sun: 'If I'm home alone with the children, I probably don't have the pre-match pint but I do have a bit of superstition about where I sit when I'm watching them.
'If we're not doing very well, I start moving round the house quite quickly and I put the children in different positions hoping that's going to change our luck.'
The prince also revealed one of his hardest challenges as FA president was consoling players after the Euro 24 final defeat.
'That was the hardest changing room atmosphere I've ever had to walk into,' he told The Sun.
But a World Cup win next year is 'definitely possible', he said, praising new England manager Thomas Tuchel as 'exactly the right person' for the job.

All parties are confident a deal can be struck as Wirtz is said to be desperate for the move and Leverkusen are not planning to stand in his way – if they are remunerated in a fair way. Meanwhile, Liverpool are hoping to step up their pursuit of Bournemouth left back Milos Kerkez in the coming days. The Cherries remain insistent on their £45m valuation but Reds transfer chief Richard Hughes, once of Bournemouth, will try to negotiate that down. After the Wirtz and Kerkez deals are wrapped up, the Premier League champions will look to balance the books. Federico Chiesa is weighing up a return to Italy after barely featuring for Liverpool since his switch from Juventus last August. Prince William delivered a keynote speech at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco on World Oceans Day to an audience including President Macron of France, President Lula da Silva of Brazil, President Chavez of Costa Rica and Prince Albert of Monaco. He said: 'The truth is that healthy oceans are essential to all life on earth. They generate half of the world's oxygen, regulate our climate and provide food for more than 3 billion people. 'And today, they need our help. 'Rising sea temperatures, plastic pollution and overfishing are putting pressure on these fragile ecosystems…and on the people and communities who depend most upon them. 'What once seemed an abundant resource is diminishing before our eyes. We all stand to be impacted. And we are all responsible for change – both negative and positive. 'But there remains time to turn this tide.' The event is bringing together business leaders, government representatives, multilateral institutions and stakeholders committed to restoring the health of the oceans. The future King is attending the forum in his role as founder of The Earthshot Prize, which was launched in 2020 to recognise and scale up ideas to help protect the planet. The competition, which annually awards five finalists with £1 million to develop their ideas, will be held in Brazil later this year as it reaches its halfway point. Prince William said: 'The Earthshot Prize is here to demonstrate that humanity does have the tools needed. But the brilliant minds behind these inspiring solutions cannot do it alone. Speaking about the film, Prince William said: 'I was very emotional after watching it. I got angry, then I got sad, then I got frustrated, then I got happy – every single range of emotions. 'It was really powerful. I'm working out how to show my children as well.' Prince William, who opened and closed his speech in French, told the forum: 'Enric is also part of the team behind Sir David Attenborough's incredible new film. It makes the most compelling argument for immediate action that I have ever seen. 'Watching human activity reduce beautiful sea forests to baron deserts at the base of our oceans is simply heartbreaking. 'For many, it is an urgent wake up call to just what is going on in our oceans. But it can no longer be a matter of 'out of sight, out of mind'. 'The need to act to protect our ocean is now in full view. 'As ever, Sir David leaves us with a sense optimism that all is not lost. He believes change is possible. 'Put simply: the ocean is under enormous threat, but it can revive itself. But, only if together, we act now." A new film was released on Saturday of Prince William in conversation with Sir David Attenborough discussing the new documentary which has become available for streaming globally today, to coincide with World Oceans Day.
