Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove says the team must suspend their Nedbank Cup celebrations to fully focus on securing a Top 8 finish.
Chiefs revived their 'Cup Kings' reputation last weekend by winning the Nedbank Cup, defeating Orlando Pirates in the final to end a 10-year trophy drought. The victory sent the club into celebration mode, with festivities including presenting the trophy to chairman Kaizer Motaung.
Amid the jubilation, Chiefs have been working hard behind the scenes to prepare for their crucial Betway Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United in Polokwane on Saturday (3pm).
We had to bring it home. Today, we celebrated with the Chairman, Dr. Motaung. Our Senior and Reserve Teams handed him medals and the trophies.
Dedicated to you Dr. Motaung, and to our very special army of supporters, the millions of Amakhosi Faithful, who love and serve this… pic.twitter.com/yZb5hktdqa — Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) May 14, 2025

Chiefs will visit Sekhukhune in their penultimate league fixture, needing all three points to keep their Top 8 hopes alive. Amakhosi currently sit ninth on the table with 30 points, level with eighth-placed Chippa United, who have played one game more.
'We know the importance of Saturday's game. We have put the celebrations aside. We are reshuffling our focus to the league,' Dove told the club's media team.
'We have been preparing well, and the mood has been right. The energy has been positive. Hopefully, we can go into this game with a clear idea of what needs to be done.
'The coaches have been doing their best to keep the gents in check during our training sessions and making sure that we have all the tools for Saturday.'
Chiefs must secure a Top 8 finish, not only to qualify for next season's MTN8 and redeem last season's shortcomings, but potentially to safeguard coach Nasreddine Nabi's job. Despite winning the Nedbank Cup, reports suggest Nabi may be released at the end of the season due to inconsistency in league performance.
'It has been a bit of a difficult season, so that's our main goal now — to make sure we finish in the Top 8,' Dove added. 'We are working hard to make sure we achieve that. It won't be easy, as there are no easy games, but we are ready to fight for it.'
Sekhukhune will be formidable opponents, as they also desperately need points to secure third place and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup. Babina Noko currently occupy the spot, one point ahead of Stellenbosch, who host SuperSport United at Danie Craven Stadium in a simultaneous kick-off.
We're buzzing with pride! A huge congrats to the Betway Premiership Coach for April - our very own Eric Tinkler.
Let's continue to rally behind our mentor and his charges.

Sekhukhune have been in impressive form under coach Eric Tinkler, who has rejuvenated the side since taking over. Tinkler and striker Keletso Makgalwa were recognised in the DStv Premiership monthly awards for April, winning Coach and Player of the Month respectively. Chiefs' attacker Makabi Lilepo won the Goal of the Month award.
'There are no easy games in this league. We know the threat they can pose, but the most important thing is to focus on ourselves and fix any wrongs,' said Dove on facing Sekhukhune.
'We have to make sure that we are ready on Saturday to go toe-to-toe with Sekhukhune. We need the points, and I am 100% sure the gents understand what's at stake.'

Orlando Pirates transfer news: Four more players to leave?

Are Orlando Pirates finished releasing players? Not a chance. Miguel Timm and Innocent Maela's departures last week are expected to be followed by additional names. Former coach Jose Riveiro successfully recruited new talent from the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC), while Orlando Pirates have also made two new signings. According to reports, the Buccaneers are likely to say goodbye to four more players: Gilberto, Katlego Otladisa, Siphelo Baloni, and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo. Kaizer Chiefs news: Amakhosi bosses and Morris Orlando Pirates team against Stellenbosch FC at the Orlando Stadium. Image: Goal Zimbabwean attacker to Orlando Pirates? Soccer Laduma have said: 'Angolan winger Gilberto, who left the club on loan in January, is unlikely to have his stay extended, while Katlego Otladisa, who has struggled for game time and was loaned to Sekhukhune United, could also be among those set to leave. 'Midfielders Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and Siphelo Baloni are also understood to be facing uncertain futures at the club, as the club is evaluating who fits into the plans for the long term. 'While the full list of departures is yet to be confirmed, it's clear that the winds of change are sweeping through the Bucs camp, with more announcements expected in the coming days as preparations intensify for the new season,' the report added. SOWETO SWAP: Saleng signs pre-contract with Kaizer Chiefs?

Monnapule Saleng is believed (per SoccerLaduma) to have signed a pre-contract with Kaizer Chiefs following a tumultuous season at Orlando Pirates. Negotiations between the parties have yet to be confirmed, but if this is the case, Orlando Pirates legend doesn't see it working out for the 27-year-old. 'Is he (Saleng) that type of a player that can really play for Chiefs, the way they are playing? I don't think so,' Vilikazi questioned. 'An example, look at (Gaston) Sirino [at Kaizer Chiefs], he's no more the Sirino we knew at Sundowns, because of the type of players surrounding him.' 'What's happening to Sirino now, is the same thing that happened to Khama Billiat. The same thing that happened to Keagan Dolly and now it's happening to Sirino, you cannot have Sirino alone and not have other good players surrounding him,' he added. 'Obviously he's going to have a lot on his shoulders. So, he needs support. So even if Saleng goes and plays for Kaizer Chiefs, he's going to struggle like Sirino is struggling, because there's no core at Chiefs that is very strong, that when everyone comes in (they fit in) like puzzles. Those pazzles at Chiefs are scattered.' Former Kaizer Chiefs manager Gavin Hunt believes Fiston Mayele would transform AmaKhosi into a title challenging side. 'In the PSL, I think he can be a 30-goal striker, I really do. I think he'll make goals on his own, by just movement, strength and power. [If he signs for Kaizer Chiefs] they win a treble,' Hunt mentioned. The CAF Champions League winner has Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Chiefs vying for his services. Orlando Pirates Monnapule Saleng's move to Kaizer Chiefs: Former Buccaneer doubts transfer rumours

NOT A GOOD FIT Orlando Pirates Monnapule Saleng's potential transfer to Kaizer Chiefs has been met with skepticism from former Buccaneers player Benedict Vilakazi. Picture: Sydney Mahlangu/BackpagePix With unsubstantiated rumours emerging that Orlando Pirates forward Monnapule Saleng might be making a move to Kaizer Chiefs, one former Buccaneers player thinks that would not be a good fit. The 27-year-old Saleng was believed to have been left out of the side for months due to a salary dispute, although the club has not confirmed this as they remained tight-lipped on the situation. As one of the best wingers in the country and not known to be nursing any kind of injury, his absence was keenly felt by Pirates supporters this past season. Saleng was last in action for Pirates on December 7 when they hosted Al Ahly in a CAF Champions League match at Orlando Stadium, which ended in a goalless draw. Saleng, however, was selected for Bafana Bafana in their African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier in Bloemfontein in early March and, by all accounts, delivered a top performance. Former Pirates midfielder Benedict Vilakazi, who spent the majority of his career (1999 - 2007) at the Soweto Giants, weighed in on the Saleng issue.
