Man charged in Halloween shooting in CT bar after being released from custody in New York
A man has been charged in connection with a shooting at a bar in Willimantic on Halloween in 2021.
Kaseim Brown, 27, faces charges of criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, according to the Willimantic Police Department.
Police said they were able to identify him as a suspect in a shooting that broke out during a physical altercation at a bar on Oct. 31, 2021. The extensive investigation involved 'intelligence gathering and case preparation,' which led to authorities obtaining a warrant for Brown's arrest.
Brown was charged Tuesday after he was released from custody in New York, where he was serving a sentence on unrelated charges, police said. He was picked up by Willimantic police once his sentence was complete and transported to the Willimantic Police Department.
Brown was held on a $250,000 bond and was expected to appear in Danielson Superior Court on Wednesday.
'The Willimantic Police Department will continue to work tirelessly to bring justice to those impacted by violent crime and ensure the safety of our community by holding offenders accountable,' Willimantic Police Lt. Joshua P. Clark said in a statement.

Waltham man found guilty of 2020 fatal stabbing on Halloween
A Waltham man has been found guilty of stabbing and killing his former housemate, Kevin Fitzgerald, on Halloween of 2020, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. Jonathan Galindo, 38, was found guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated burglary following a three-week trial that began May 8, the DA's office said in a Friday news release. At 9:14 p.m. Oct. 31, 2020, Fitzgerald, 61, called 911 and told police he had been stabbed in his Waltham home and was dying, officials said. Police found him bleeding but conscious at the threshold of the home, and he told them he had been stabbed by a man wearing a ninja mask. Fitzgerald was brought to the hospital, where he died just after 10 p.m. He was stabbed three times in the chest, shoulder and thigh. An autopsy revealed that the chest wound, which punctured his lung, was fatal. At the home on Alder Street, police found blood, a knife, a fingerprint on the back storm door and a set of footprints in the snow leading to that door, according to the district attorney's office. Four days after Fitzgerald's death, police matched the fingerprint on the storm door to Galindo, who was Fitzgerald's former housemate and had moved out of the apartment that spring. DNA on the handle of the knife also matched Galindo, officials said. On Nov. 7, police received an arrest warrant for Galindo. They also found a black mask in his closet. Location data from Galindo's phone showed him at the Alder Street apartment on the night of Fitzgerald's death, officials said. The phone's internet search history also showed repeated searches for 'Any recent stabbings in Waltham last night?' the following day. A sentencing hearing for Galindo has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on July 15. Juvenile suspect in 2023 crash that killed Northampton teen found not guilty
A juvenile suspect in a hit-and-run crash that killed 19-year-old Jesse Johansmeyer two years ago has been found not guilty, according to Johansmeyer's family. Johansmeyer was at a bonfire party on the night of March 24, 2023 when another person at the party, who was driving a pickup truck, struck him with the vehicle and drove away, MassLive reported at the time. The Northampton High School graduate was brought to the hospital for treatment, where died the next morning. Willow Vandoloski, Johansmeyer's older sister, confirmed Friday that the suspect was found not guilty last month. Because the suspect was a minor, the details of the case are not public, and the Northwestern District Attorney's Office could not share any information or confirm the verdict. Vandoloski said the outcome was 'earth-shattering' for her and her family. 'We were all kind of in a state of shock,' she said. 'The last two years since Jesse was killed, we've kind of all been in a daze, especially because we've been having to put so much effort and energy toward the trial itself. So for that two years to go on and no justice to come of that was incredibly difficult for us, and it's something we're still processing and something we're going to have to process the rest of our lives.' Since Johansmeyer's death, his family has organized an annual motorcycle ride in his honor, which has raised money for the Easthampton Dog Park for the last three years. Vandoloski said it has been a way for them to channel their grief into something that will help others. Otherwise, Johansmeyer's family members have largely leaned on each other for support, as she said there are few resources available for those grieving loved ones lost in traumatic circumstances. The family created a website and in the last few days, Vandoloski started a TikTok page to spread her brother's story and remind people of the importance of calling 911 in an emergency. She said she wants to do everything she can to preserve Johansmeyer's memory. 'He could put a smile on anybody's face. He had so much life left to give that was taken from him,' she said. 'We're going to do everything in our power to make sure Jesse's name is not forgotten.' South Attleboro man killed in head-on crash in Wareham
A South Attleboro man was killed in a highway crash Thursday in Wareham. Matthew Burns, 49, died when his motorcycle collided with an oncoming car on Route 28 or Cranberry Highway in Wareham late Thursday afternoon, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said. Burns was traveling northbound on Cranberry Highway when witnesses reported he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a Mercedes compact SUV traveling in the other direction, authorities said. Wareham Police and State Police officers found Burns unresponsive and pronounced him dead following CPR. The driver of the Mercedes was being treated at an area hospital. The driver of the SUV, an unnamed woman, told police she saw several motorcyclists on the opposite side of the road and when going around a bend, one of the motorcyclists lost control of his motorcycle and swerved into her lane. She told police she couldn't avoid colliding with the motorcycle, officials said. There were four other motorcyclists with Burns at the time of the crash, and one suffered minor injuries, they added. Part of the highway was shut down because of the crash, which is still under investigation by State Police. It was the second motorcycle accident in Wareham this week and the third this year. A motorcyclist collided with an oncoming truck on Glen Charlie Road Wednesday and a 20-year-old Rochester man was killed in a motorcycle accident March 4, also on Cranberry Highway.
