Bezos to hold pyjama party as part of lavish three-day wedding
Celebrities, business tycoons and giant yachts are arriving in the World Heritage city for a series of lavish events in historical locations. The week will also include a Great Gatsby-themed party and cocktail receptions.
The pyjama party may be held in the luxury Aman hotel on the Grand Canal, one of several luxury hotels booked for the Amazon founder's guests.
The wedding is to be attended by around 250 guests, including Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Mick Jagger, Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, Kim Kardashian and Robert Pattinson.
While hoteliers, water taxi operators and Venice's mayor have welcomed the wedding and talked up the millions of euros that it will pump into the local economy, other Venetians are distinctly hostile to hosting what has been described by the Italian press as ' the wedding of the century '.
But before the celebrations, Mr Bezos, 61, and his fiancée threw a foam party on board the Koru, his $500 million (£371 million), three-masted superyacht.
Mr Bezos was photographed wearing swimming shorts, laughing and joking with Ms Sanchez, 55, as a giant cannon blasted foam onto the deck of the Koru. Younger guests were photographed driving golf balls into the sea from the deck of the huge vessel.
In the latest protest against the nuptials, a life-size mannequin of the Amazon founder appeared floating in the Grand Canal, just beneath the famous Rialto Bridge.
The dummy, which bore a striking resemblance to Mr Bezos, was clutching several dollar notes and clinging to a large Amazon cardboard box.
It was not immediately clear who was behind the stunt, which was witnessed by tourists, including a family of Americans.
'We were just having dinner next to the Rialto Bridge right by the water when we looked down and it was just floating there,' said Madelyn Eno, 16, from Williamsburg, Virginia.
'Lots of tourists were taking photos. People were laughing. We didn't see who put it in the water though.'
Her mother, Ashley Eno, 45, said: 'Whoever made it took some time over it. The face looked just like Jeff Bezos. The dummy had dollar bills in its hand and was wearing an Amazon workers' outfit.'
Guests have already started arriving, including Ivanka Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump, and her husband Jared Kushner. The US president is not thought to be coming to the wedding.
Ms Sanchez, a former television reporter and a licenced helicopter pilot, is reportedly planning on going through 27 changes of outfit during the three-day festivities, at an estimated cost of $1.5 million. Designers such as Dolce & Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta are said to be providing the clothing.
At least four huge yachts are now berthed in the Venetian lagoon. Among them the $360 million 122-metre-long Kismet, which is owned by billionaire Shahid Khan, the Pakistani-American owner of Fulham FC and the American football team the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Moored at the entrance to the Grand Canal is the Arience, a $70 million, 60-metre-long navy blue and white yacht that belongs to Bill Miller, a billionaire fund manager who was one of the first people to invest in Amazon when it was in its infancy.
The wedding celebrations are expected to begin on Thursday with a party on a tiny island in the Venetian lagoon, far from the tourist-saturated sights such as St Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge.
The event will be held in the gardens of Villa Baslini, on the islet of San Giovanni Evangelista (St John the Evangelist), which is connected to the larger island of Torcello by a bridge.
There will then be an evening reception in the walled cloisters of La Madonna dell' Orto, a church that is tucked away down a little-known canal.
When The Telegraph went to the venue on Wednesday, Italian carabinieri police were stationed in the piazza in front of the church while staff from the London-based wedding organiser Lanza & Baucina carried furniture and supplies into the cloisters.
On Friday, the couple are expected to exchange their rings on the island of San Giorgio at the entrance to the Grand Canal. There will be fireworks and a performance by Matteo Bocelli, son of the famous tenor Andrea Bocelli.
On Saturday there will be a grand party in Venice's centuries-old shipbuilding yards, a huge complex of warehouses, rope-making workshops, canals and slip ramps known as the Arsenale or Arsenal. Its main entrance is guarded by stone lions and it is surrounded by high crenellated walls, making it easy to secure.
The Arsenal was chosen at the last minute after the original venue, a historic building called the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, was cancelled amid fears that protesters were threatening to disrupt the event by leaping into the surrounding canals.
Activists have vowed to continue their protests and will stage a march on Saturday afternoon from Venice's train station.
They object to the low tax rates that Mr Bezos reportedly pays, the extravagance of his wedding and his support for the Trump administration.
Critics said they were misguided and insisted the wedding would bring huge economic benefit. Luca Zaia, the governor of the Veneto region, said it would boost Venice's image and ultimately benefit the city to the tune of €2.5 billion.
Mr Bezos and his entourage should be welcomed warmly. Protesters were a minority of Left-wing activists, he said. 'I would hate other VIPs to decide in future to go to Saint Tropez instead of Venice,' said Mr Zaia.
While security will be tight, with police reinforcements drafted in to help their colleagues in Venice, Venetians and tourists are hoping to catch a glimpse of the guests.
Bill Gates is said to be particularly keen to visit the Gallerie dell'Accademia museum, where Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man is on display.
In 1994, the Microsoft founder bought Leonardo's Codex Leicester, a collection of scientific drawings and writings, for $30 million.

EXCLUSIVE Living Nostradamus reveals why Ivanka Trump's attendance at Sanchez-Bezos wedding could kickstart her reinvention
A psychic has made a prediction about Ivanka Trump 's future after she attended 'the wedding of the century' between Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez in Italy last weekend - and it could be the start of her reinvention. Having left the White House after serving as Presidential Advisor during dad Donald Trumps's first term in 2021, she and husband Jared Kushner moved to Miami with their three children, where they have become fixtures of the social scene once again. Ivanka and Jared were among those of 200 high-powered guests who witnessed the union between the happy couple on Friday, which took place in Venice in a restored amphitheater on the island. They were joined by the entirety of the Kardashian family, Orlando Bloom, Tom Brady, Oprah, Gayle King, and other various A-listers. Ivanka stunned in a salmon-pink strapless gown from Tony Ward Couture, which featured silver bedazzled floral detailing and cutouts, along with a slit in the leg. She paired the look with a pair of strappy silver heels and minimal jewelry, while her husband kept it simple in a navy blue suit and black bowtie. The two seemed to have a great time at the days-long celebrations hosted by the newly married couple, which included a lavish welcome dinner Thursday and a star-studded rave after Friday's ceremony. It was a weekend full of mingling, and with tons of VIPs on their guest list, could this have really have just been a good networking opportunity for Ivanka? Psychic Athos Salomé, 38, from Brazil, sees a lot of opportunity coming from her attendance at this wedding, both professionally and socially. Salomé, who is often referred to as the Living Nostradamus, told the Daily Mail that Ivanka is 'not running away from the past - she's trying to buy it back with a new storyline,' explaining that her trip to Venice was just 'the first chapter.' He has been dubbed the 'Living Nostradamus' due to his numerous accurate predictions - including his forecasting of the coronavirus pandemic, Queen Elizabeth II's death and the Microsoft global outage. Salomé calculated a combined probability of 70 percent that Ivanka will convert her Venetian weekend into at least one or two concrete contracts - book, series or fashion collection - within the next 18 months. He believes that the biggest project that could come from this weekend would be a third book, as the timing is 'perfect.' Ivanka has already authored two books - The Trump Card, published in 2009, and Women Who Work, published in 2017. 'Premium publishers are looking for behind-the-scenes White House memoirs that don't exalt Trumpism, in line with the electoral climate of 2028, when the public will be hungry for "clean" versions of history,' Salomé revealed exclusively to 'By the second half of 2026, she should announce a book with Amazon Publishing,' the clairvoyant predicted. Salomé calculated a combined probability of 70 per cent that Ivanka will convert her Venetian weekend into at least one or two concrete contracts - book, series or fashion collection - within the next 18 months Of course, Bezos is the founder of Amazon, and her friend Sánchez has now married the billionaire businessman. This could prove lucrative in other areas for Donald Trump's daughter. Salomé also predicted a 50 percent chance that the weekend could also lead to a docu-series project for Ivanka. 'The connection with Jeff Bezos isn't just for selfies,' Salomé said. 'It offers direct access to Amazon Prime Video, whose catalogue has an appetite for behind-the-scenes content about public figures,' he shared. He envisions Ivanka being involved in a short-format project in partnership with Amazon, with 'four episodes on women's philanthropy in emerging markets.' The Living Nostradamus explained that this would be 'an easy product to approve' and one that was 'excellent for image cleaning.' But there is one project that the psychic believes will have a low chance of happening after her Venice networking - and that's a revival of her fashion brand. For many years, Ivanka had her own fashion label that was sold in stores like Nordstrom, Marshalls and Neiman Marcus. The brand was shut down in July 2018, and Salomé said he only sees a 25 percent chance of her trying to bring it back to life. But if she were to try, he recommends a 'limited capsule collection with recycled fabrics and a carbon-neutral footprint, co-signed with a luxury maison.' 'It's the kind of project that the Bezos Earth Fund would love to sponsor,' he said, while adding a warning that the 'luxury sector' still fears 'political backlash' - a big reason why he's unsure of such a project happening. And, as many have criticized the luxurious weekend held by the Amazon power couple last weekend, the clairvoyant warns that any project Ivanka does in the future must 'prove a green commitment' in order for her to avoid backlash. Ivanka and her husband Jared's appearance at the Italian wedding came just days after he had revealed to New York Post's Well Spent information about his parenting routine in Miami. They live in a $24 million mega mansion on Miami's Indian Creek Island, which boasts six bedrooms and 8.5 baths, and was purchased after their swift exit from Washington, D.C. He went into detail about his regimen after the outlet asked him if he's made any 'key changes' to his morning routine in recent years. 'I go into the office later and schedule fewer meetings,' Kushner explained. 'After I make my kids breakfast and send them to school, I take more time in the morning to read, think, walk, exercise, listen to podcasts and return phone calls, [which] gives me the ability to go into the office more centered and intentional,' he shared.

Leonardo DiCaprio preaches about saving the planet after being branded a 'hypocrite' over Jeff Bezos wedding
Leonardo DiCaprio has preached about environmental efforts on Monday despite being branded as a 'hypocrite' for jetting to Jeff Bezos ' extravagant wedding over the past weekend. The Oscar winner, 50 - who was joined by girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti for the star-studded nuptials - jumped to his main Instagram page to give an update about a Chilean island called Guafo which is 'now protected.' It comes after fans recently called out the Hollywood actor - who is known for his environmental advocacy - for flying to Venice to attend the wedding of Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. Along with sharing a picture of the island, Leonardo explained that it has been purchased by a private owner - which will now keep it 'protected from coal mining, timber logging and other destructive industries.' The area will also become a national park and the star further penned that Guafo Island is 'critical to global biodiversity and the overall health of our planet.' has reached out to DiCaprio's rep for comment. Leonardo DiCaprio, 50, has shared a post about environmental efforts on Monday despite being branded as a 'hypocrite' for jetting to Jeff Bezos ' extravagant wedding over the past weekend; seen in April in Las Vegas Leonardo added that the island houses 'breeding populations of seabirds' and also 'boasts Magellanic Penguins and a breeding population of Endangered Marine Otters...' The Titanic star has previously been open about his activism and a few months earlier in March, he slammed the Albanese government for giving the green light to a mine expansion in Western Australia. Over on Reddit, social media users called out DiCaprio for being a 'hypocrite' after her flew to Italy just days ago for the Bezos-Sanchez wedding and slammed him for supporting Bezos amid Amazon's substantial carbon footprint. One penned, 'Leo is a great actor but I never believed that nonsense about him caring about the environment.' Another wrote, 'Because he's a hypocrite. He wants us to believe that he's environmentally frugal so that he can fly his private jets and use his private yachts. Leonardo DiCaprio has always been a hypocrite and a phony. 'Anyone who uses a private jet and a private yacht everywhere they go does not care about the environment. He wants us to limit our usage so he can continue with his extravagance,' they added. A fan also shared, 'Wealthy/famous people like this assume their influence on others outweighs the damages they cause personally. As if they are carbon neutral on the backs of others personal sacrifices.' 'Wow. But he's always been a hypocrite about environmentalism,' one additionally penned. Over on Reddit , social media users called out DiCaprio for being a 'hypocrite' after her flew to Italy just days ago for the Bezos-Sanchez wedding Another typed, 'The way any good done by one person recycling for a year is undone by a private jet flight (of which many were probably taken to get to this d**n wadding) makes me feel so cynical and jaded tbh.' It is not known if DiCaprio took a private jet to the Bezos-Sanchez wedding. DiCaprio has often been vocal about the environment and climate change. Late last year, he notably presented the 2024 Hilton Humanitarian Prize to Amazon Frontlines during a glitzy event. And ahead of his 50th birthday, the star also completed renovations on his eco-friendly compound in the Hollywood Hills. He has also launched his own foundation due to the 'planetary crisis' which is described as 'a convergence of accelerating climate change, unprecedented loss of biodiversity, and increasing human health issues caused by a toxic environment,' per the official website. Back in 2022, the Oscar winner reflected on the effect of climate change during an interview with Deadline. 'I've had two great passions in my life. That has been acting, and the protection of the natural world and getting the message out about the climate crisis. I've had a foundation for 20 years.' He later added, 'I think there's a worldwide sense of anxiety about the fact that the powers that be, the private sector, governments, are not making the transition fast enough. We literally have a nine-year window.' While the star is known for his advocacy for the environment, he has also been called out in the past as well. Earlier this year in January, both he and his supermodel girlfriend flew on a private jet to Mexico amid the deadly Los Angeles wildfires. And most recently, the couple were spotted in Venice over the past weekend for a three-day wedding extravaganza as Bezos and Sanchez tied the knot. Leonardo was seen keeping a low profile alongside the star-studded guest list - which also included Orlando Bloom, Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady and Sydney Sweeney. One day earlier on Sunday, the Inception actor was spotted leaving Venice while at the airport and kept it casual for the day of travel. He kept his face concealed by donning a black hoodie as well as a pair of gray shorts and white sneakers. According to The Guardian, over 90 jets flew into the airport in the romantic city as celebrities attended the nuptials. Jeff and Lauren's wedding reportedly cost $20 million - which also faced protests in the city of Venice.

The most luxurious hotels in Sicily
The HBO series White Lotus has certainly shone a spotlight on the luxury hotel life of Sicily, though you may – or indeed may not – be relieved to know that the reality is very different. Guests are better dressed, décor cooler (those gruesome passion-killing testa di moro ceramic heads are rarer ) and murders unlikely. Indeed Sicily has an extraordinary and original portfolio of luxury hotels, ranging from recently refurbished grand hotels like Villa Igiea in Palermo, and the San Domenico Palace in Taormina, where series two of The White Lotus was filmed, to hip-luxe retreats on small islands, on vineyards, on the slopes of Mount Etna and in the bijou Baroque town of Noto. Here are the best five-star hotels in Sicily. How we review Every hotel in this curated list has been visited by one of our expert reviewers, who are usually hosted on a complimentary basis. They stay for a minimum of one night, test at least one meal and trial other experiences that the hotel might have to offer. San Domenico Palace Taormina, Sicily, Italy 9 Telegraph expert rating Dating back to the 14th century, this magnificent former monastery, which has been a hotel since 1896, stands on the cliffs overlooking the Ionian Sea in Taormina, with Mount Etna to its right and the city's ancient Greek theatre to its left. Although Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts added a good dollop of 21st-century luxury when they took San Domenico over, redecorating the rooms in the 19th-century wing and adding private plunge pools to some of the terraces there, they have been careful to retain the many impressive historical elements, from the statue-filled courtyards to the stone doorway you enter through. The charm that enticed Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo and Humphrey Bogart among many other celebrities of their day, remains, as does the hotel's links to the screen – most recently as a setting for the Netflix series, The White Lotus. Q92 Noto, Sicily, Italy 9 Telegraph expert rating A sumptuous boutique hotel in the Baroque heart of Noto, with unparalleled views of one of the most extraordinary townscapes in Sicily. An elegant residence created as a feast for the eyes, where the 'common spaces' – including the elegant reception lounge – feel like rooms in a private home. Walls are deep Pompeiian red – a nod both to the favourite wall paint of the Romans and to the traditional grey, cream and oxblood encaustic tiles salvaged from the Aeolian islands and used throughout the hotel. There are just nine rooms, each different, ranging from spacious doubles to three huge master suites – all of these have balconies; one has an original Baroque frescoed ceiling. Friendly staff act like hosts rather than employees, and exude goodwill and enthusiasm, putting everyone at ease. Belmond Villa Sant'Andrea Taormina, Sicily, Italy 9 Telegraph expert rating Sant'Andrea is suffused with good, old-fashioned class and style, without ever being stuffy or outdated. Although a fairly sizeable hotel – it has 71 rooms – the feel is intimate and personal – think English country house by the Sicilian sea. The original 1919 villa forms the core of the hotel, with opulent – but never ostentatious – marble floors and staircases, while Baroque paintings and family heirlooms scattered around the light airy lounge, reception hall and bar act as conversation pieces rather than recreating a stately home atmosphere. The hotel runs a free hourly shuttle up to its sister hotel, the Timeo, in Taormina (below), making Sant'Andrea the ideal choice for anyone wanting to combine beach-time with sightseeing, shopping and dining in town. Seven Rooms Villadorata Noto, Sicily, Italy 9 Telegraph expert rating The term 'boutique hotel' may have lost its meaning, but Seven Rooms Villadorata is the real McCoy, a devastatingly gorgeous feast for the senses housed in a wing of the most extravagant Baroque palazzo in Sicily. The philosophy of Seven Rooms is to give guests everything they require within the privacy of their rooms – a thoughtfully stocked mini bar, artisan teas and kettle, Nespresso machine – while the spacious bathrooms, with a plethora of Villadorata's own range of body products made from natural Sicilian ingredients, make a long bath as relaxing as a spa treatment. Expect high ceilings, soaring windows with white shutter doors and heavy linen curtains, original encaustic tiled floors, and on your supremely comfortable beds, delicately puckered white silk quilts and blue alpaca throws. Monaci delle Terre Nere Zafferana Etnea, Sicily, Italy 9 Telegraph expert rating Halfway between Taormina and Catania, high up on the eastern skirts of Etna, where ancient bush-trained vines spring out of the dark, lava-rich soil on dry stone terraces sits this country hotel. The mood is adventurous barefoot eco-chic, with the looming volcano conferring a special energy. Much of the food served at breakfast or dinner in the handsome, artsy in-house restaurant, Locanda Nerello, is grown right on the estate, and the part that isn't is carefully sourced from smaller, mostly organic producers. Owner Coffa is an authority on the upcoming Etna wine scene and the estate now has its own 15-acre winery, with tastings of its own production and other Sicilian wines led by two in-house sommeliers. Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia Salina, Sicily, Italy 9 Telegraph expert rating This is a sophisticated Aeolian island retreat, with a design that makes it virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the island's smattering of villages. Its 27 rooms are all in individual, Aeolian-style whitewashed houses – simple, single-storey cuboids, each with its own terrace – scattered around the wine estate, and in the just-restored lighthouse (Faro) that gives the hotel its name. Architecture, landscape and unfailingly discreet service combine to create a place where guests truly can take time out from the world. As well as the freshwater pool, there is a massage pavilion, a padel-tennis court and a clubhouse. Chef Ludovico de Vivo applies eclectic creativity to both Sicilian and international traditions, with a fierce loyalty to local produce (including home-grown vegetables and salads from a garden above the pool, and Tasca d'Almerita's own olive oil). Donna Carmela Sicily, Italy 9 Telegraph expert rating Lying between Mount Etna and the sea – and with glimpses of both – what really makes this place special is the feeling of being far away from the world, fully immersed in an exotic paradise. Rooms with plunge pools occupying spacious individual bungalows hidden within the subtropical gardens may make you think you are in Bali – yet the hotel is just an easy drive from Catania airport. The 'eco lodges' (bungalows) are huge, softly lit and minimalist, with sliding glass doors opening onto a greenery-shaded terrace. Rooms in the main house bring a minimalist touch to more traditional spaces, featuring natural stone, white tiles and shades of cream and pale green. Most have some private outdoor space, while the 'Jacuzzi Exclusive' suite has a terrace (with plunge pool) and views of the sea and Mount Etna. Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo Taormina, Sicily, Italy 8 Telegraph expert rating Taormina may be overrun with tourists in high season, but there's no denying how picturesque it is, and the Timeo stands only a few minutes' walk from the main drag and right next to the entrance to the magnificent third-century BC Greek amphitheatre, making it one of the best luxury hotels in Sicily. The Timeo started life in 1873 as a five-room guest house occupying what is today the main building of the hotel, and was popular with artists, writers and European aristocracy. Belmond acquired the hotel in 2010 bringing their super-high service standards with them; from the porter who takes your luggage on arrival to the front desk staff, everyone is reassuringly charming and courteous. There is a spa and a heated pool set in the lovely gardens and plenty of terrace space, plus sitting rooms with huge windows from which to enjoy the magical views. Villa Igiea Palermo, Sicily, Italy 9 Telegraph expert rating Returned to its former splendour by family-run Rocco Forte Hotels, this Art Nouveau palazzo, originally designed by Ernesto Basile for the rich Florio family, overlooks the Gulf of Palermo. It offers 78 rooms and suites, two restaurants which showcase Sicily's rich cuisine, a spa and a pool. Much of the hotel spills out onto terraces above the gardens where the Igiea Terrazza Bar offers a perfect spot for a martini and both the pool restaurant and the main restaurant offer al fresco dining. The painted walls of the Basile Room, meanwhile, are not to be missed. The concierge team have created a series of itineraries which will take guests to any of Palermo's eight Unesco heritage sites or through the vibrant markets to buy ingredients for a cooking lesson. Frequently asked questions Where was The White Lotus filmed? The second series of The White Lotus was filmed in and around the north east-coast of Sicily. The Four Seasons hotel named San Domenico Palace was where most of the story took place – and is the location of the fictious 'White Lotus' hotel that the series is named after. Can you stay at the White Lotus hotel? The White Lotus is not a real hotel, but you can of course stay at San Domenico Palace, you will however need a substantial budget as, like the show suggests, it is the type of place high-end travellers book for luxury holidays (with a starting room rate from around £1,000 a night).
