Is this the Rams' worst trade in the past decade?
The Los Angeles Rams have made a lot of trades in the Les Snead era. Some worked out well, from acquiring Matthew Stafford to adding Jalen Ramsey, while others didn't.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox compiled the worst trades made by every team in the past 10 years and picked the Rams' acquisition of cornerback Marcus Peters in 2018 as the biggest flop because of his short stint with the team.
"This may seem like a controversial choice since cornerback Marcus Peters was a two-time first-team All-Pro who some have viewed as an elite cover corner," Knox wrote. "The reality, though, is that the Rams overpaid for a defensive back who has always been a feast-or-famine player.
"Yes, Peters had an impressive statistical start to his career. In his three seasons with the Chiefs, he logged 19 interceptions, three defensive touchdowns and 55 passes defended while being named the 2015 Defensive Rookie of the Year. However, Peters also had a tendency to gamble and was prone to surrendering big plays.
"In Peters' first season with the Rams, for example, he recorded eight passes defended and three interceptions. However, he also surrendered 732 receiving yards and six touchdowns while allowing an opposing passer rating of 104.2.
"Peters never seemed to fit with L.A.'s defense, and he busted more than he boomed. The Rams opted to trade him after just over a year and 22 games, replacing him with trade acquisition Jalen Ramsey the same day.
"For the 22-game rental of Peters (and a sixth-round pick) the Rams traded a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 second-rounder. Los Angeles then dealt him to Baltimore for linebacker Kenny Young and a fifth-round pick."
This may be true, but the truth of it is the Rams were just trying to build their juggernaut team in any way they could. Peters looked like the best addition, but ultimately, they needed someone with a little more punch and pizzazz. Ramsey fit that bill perfectly.
And considering how other trades fared for other teams, this isn't that bad of a move for L.A.

Vic Fangio: Good news is Jalen Carter played well and can still improve a lot

Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter has made a big impact in his first two NFL seasons, but defensive coordinator Vic Fangio thinks there's plenty of upside left for the 2023 first-round pick. Carter was a second-team All-Pro after recording 42 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles during the regular season and he had two more sacks and a forced fumble in the team's playoff win over the Rams. During a press conference this week, Fangio was asked his thoughts about what the future holds for Carter. 'The good news about Jalen is twofold,' Fangio said, via a transcript from the team. 'One, he played very well for us last year, and two, he can still improve a lot.' Carter isn't arguing with that assessment. Carter mentioned Chris Jones and Dexter Lawrence while discussing the best defensive tackles in the league and said his goal is to reach that level as well. 'This is what I wanted to do,' Carter said, via Dave Zangaro of 'I wanted to be the best at what I do, try to be the best. I'm not there yet. I still got a lot of people in front of me that's obviously been in the league a couple [more] years, got years of experience on me. But I'm just going to keep grinding every day. Not just me by myself working on specific things to get better, just being around the team having the guys support me also makes me also be one of the best in the league.' Repeating as Super Bowl champions is difficult, but it'll be a little easier if Carter can continue ascending as rapidly as he has the last two years.

Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell fulfills promise to let his mom retire

Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell fulfills promise to let his mom retire Philadelphia cornerback Quinyon Mitchell was a guest on the Exciting Mics podcast and told Reed Blankenship and Cooper DeJean that he retired his mom after getting drafted by the Eagles Quinyon Mitchell completed a lot of hopes and dreams when he was selected at No. 22 overall by the Eagles in the 2024 NFL draft. Mitchell became the first cornerback selected by Philadelphia in the first round in over twenty years, while representing Toledo and the Mid-American Conference. Mitchell was a Day 1 starter for the Eagles and a finalist for the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year award, won by the Rams' Jared Verse. Mitchell is one of the NFL's top young cornerbacks, but his most impressive accomplishment came after draft night and after he signed his first contract. Mitchell was a guest on the Exciting Mics podcast and told Reed Blankenship and Cooper DeJean that he retired his mom after getting drafted by Philadelphia. NIL and the Transfer Portal could have netted Quinyon Mitchell millions long before he popped up on the Eagles' radar. Mitchell stayed loyal to the University of Toledo, and when asked why at the NFL Combine, he cited the importance of loyalty to him. 'Everybody went away, Toledo stayed loyal so I stayed loyal to them.' Mitchell said. 'I stay loyal to those who stay loyal to me.' Philadelphia is big on culture and loyalty, which made it easy transition for Mitchell. Mitchell comes from a big family, the third oldest of six children (two boys, four girls), and was born and raised in Williston, a small town (population of less than 3,000) about 20 miles south of Gainesville. A three-star recruit, Mitchell was the No. 159 cornerback in the 2019 recruiting class and the No. 253 recruit in Florida. Mitchell chose Toledo over offers from Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, South Alabama, and South Florida.

Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song

Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Music fans likely all rushed to their devices on Friday, as Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne released what was the sixth of "Tha Carter" series. His 19-track album titled "Tha Carter VI" features from notable artists such as BigXthaPlug, MGK, Kodak Black and 2 Chainz among many others. The New Orleans rapper who many felt was snubbed from performing at this past year's Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in the Big Easy has always been known for being a lyrical genius. While he's a New Orleans native and a well-known Green Bay Packers fan, Wheezy shouted-out Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay in one of his new songs, "Welcome to Tha Carter." Shortly after name-dropping former NBA star Metta Sandiford-Artest formerly known as Metta World Peace and Ron Artest, Wayne threw in McVay's name while alluding to one of his (Wayne's) personal favorite hobbies. "Smokin' that bomb L.A. like I'm McVay," said Wayne. Aside from being a music icon, Wayne is a huge sports junkie. He has made appearances on ESPN's "First Take," Fox's "Undisputed," and even won an episode of the iconic ESPN show "Around the Horn." As for McVay and the Rams, they came up a couple of plays short of playing in the Super Bowl this past season, and are hoping that with a new addition like All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, they can rectify their shortcomings in 2025. While McVay is likely appreciative of the bar from Wayne, he is also presumably focused on the team's upcoming minicamp in Maui. The Rams open up preseason play on August 9 against the Dallas story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.
