Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell fulfills promise to let his mom retire Philadelphia cornerback Quinyon Mitchell was a guest on the Exciting Mics podcast and told Reed Blankenship and Cooper DeJean that he retired his mom after getting drafted by the Eagles
Quinyon Mitchell completed a lot of hopes and dreams when he was selected at No. 22 overall by the Eagles in the 2024 NFL draft. Mitchell became the first cornerback selected by Philadelphia in the first round in over twenty years, while representing Toledo and the Mid-American Conference.
Mitchell was a Day 1 starter for the Eagles and a finalist for the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year award, won by the Rams' Jared Verse. Mitchell is one of the NFL's top young cornerbacks, but his most impressive accomplishment came after draft night and after he signed his first contract.

NIL and the Transfer Portal could have netted Quinyon Mitchell millions long before he popped up on the Eagles' radar. Mitchell stayed loyal to the University of Toledo, and when asked why at the NFL Combine, he cited the importance of loyalty to him.
'Everybody went away, Toledo stayed loyal so I stayed loyal to them.' Mitchell said. 'I stay loyal to those who stay loyal to me.'
Philadelphia is big on culture and loyalty, which made it easy transition for Mitchell.
Mitchell comes from a big family, the third oldest of six children (two boys, four girls), and was born and raised in Williston, a small town (population of less than 3,000) about 20 miles south of Gainesville. A three-star recruit, Mitchell was the No. 159 cornerback in the 2019 recruiting class and the No. 253 recruit in Florida. Mitchell chose Toledo over offers from Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, South Alabama, and South Florida.

4 takeaways from the Steelers signing of Aaron Rodgers
After a long wait, the Pittsburgh Steelers finally have their quarterback. According to multiple reports, Aaron Rodgers is headed to Pittsburgh and will sign his contract in time to get started with the team at their mandatory minicamp next week. This has been a long time coming even if we all assumed this was how it would go. Here are our big takeaways from the pending signing. Aaron Rodgers will be welcomed with open arms I know there has been some grumbling and some players have made off-hand comments here and there about Rodgers dragging this out. But make no mistake, Rodgers will be welcomed by every player on the roster when he shows up because they know the NFL is a business and they know Rodgers can play. The NFL was banking Rodgers signing with the Steelers All you have to do is look at the Steelers schedule and you know there was nothing random about how things played out. Pittsburgh is running a crazy gauntlet of games aimed at either former Steelers quarterbacks playing the Steelers or Rodgers against his old teams, and that isn't an accident. Rodgers signing won't change a thing about the 2026 NFL draft I know there will be plenty of fans who don't like this addition because they think this addition will make the Steelers just good enough to end up with a lower draft pick and not be abel to secure a top quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft. This won't be an issue. If the Steelers are set on a particular quarterback next year, they have the draft capital to move up and get them and Rodgers will be gone. Rodgers makes the team better If you ask most fans, they were not looking forward to watching Mason Rudolph start 17 games this season because the team isn't good with Rudolph at quarterback. Rodgers might not make the Steelers a Super Bowl contender or even that much better in terms of overall record. But it will be more watchable, competitive football. Contract details for new Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers
On Saturday new Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers showed up at the team facilities, passed his physical and signed his one-year contract. According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the one-year deal for Rodgers is $10 million guaranteed with a $13.65 million base and performance incentives that could run the value up to $19.5 million. Rodgers and the Steelers had been courting all offseason long but it's always felt like a foregone conclusion that eventually the two sides will come together. This contract is a bargain for the Steelers and despite his age, the addition of Rodgers is an upgrade over Mason Rudolph. In an offseason where teams are giving out massive contracts to quarterbacks, Pittsburgh has a chance to win without breaking the bank for 2025. Rodgers got to the Steelers just in time to go through mandatory minicamp with his new team. Rodgers could have signed with the Steelers at any point in the offseason but waited to be sure to miss any voluntary workouts. Steelers announce jersey number for QB Aaron Rodgers
From the moment the Pittsburgh Steelers signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers, there was mystery surrounding what jersey number Rodgers would wear with the Steelers. Rodgers wore No. 12 when he was with the Green Bay Packers but switched to No. 8 with the New York Jets. Now with the Steelers, Rodgers will continue to wear No. 8. There was some concern that Rodgers might insist on wearing No. 12, which would have opened up a whole can of worms. No Steeler has worn No. 12 since Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw retired in 1983. Pittsburgh has never officially retired the number but this is fairly common for the team to not retire a jersey but still never allow it to be worn. Advertisement Wearing No. 8 means punter Corliss Waitman will switch to No. 3. We hope Rodgers cuts Waitman a nice check for the jersey. Rodgers joins Steelers legends Tommy Maddox and Kenny Pickett as the other two quarterbacks to wear the number.
