Clayton Kershaw joins the 3,000-strikeout club. Will anybody else get there?
As Kershaw's career demonstrates, reaching the hallowed 3,000 strikeout mark is as much a test of talent as it is of durability. Even Kershaw, who won three Cy Young Awards in four years and was so dominant that he was voted MVP in one of them, nearly broke down physically before he could get there.

Dodgers' Muncy on injured list with knee bruise after collision with White Sox's Taylor
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy went on the injured list Thursday with a left knee bone bruise. He had a MRI that showed no structural damage. He's expected to be out about six weeks. 'It was obviously amazing hearing the news that nothing was torn, nothing was ripped,' said Muncy, who was walking gingerly. 'That was obviously a huge sigh of relief for me, but it still sounds like too long of a time in my head.' He left in the sixth inning Wednesday night after a collision with Chicago White Sox center fielder Michael A. Taylor, who was attempting a steal. Muncy took a throw from catcher Will Smith and tagged out Taylor. Muncy sprawled on his back as a Dodgers trainer came out to check on him. He had to be helped off the field and was barely able to put any weight on his left leg. 'It was tough news but it was also great news in terms of when you look at the play and just the injury that could have happened,' Muncy said. A White Sox trainer checked on Taylor, who sustained a bruised back and left the game. The incident occurred just before Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw got his 3,000th career strikeout against Vinny Capra to end the inning. There was a brief delay before Muncy and Taylor left the field. 'The first thought that was really going through my head was as I'm laying on the ground was 'Dang, I have to make Kersh sit there and think about stuff right now.' I really was not happy about that,' Muncy said. 'I'm in the X-ray room and heard the crowd roar and I was kind of like, 'Man, missed it.' Honestly, that was the most heartbreaking thing to me.' Muncy is hitting .250 with 13 home runs and 55 RBI in 81 games this season. The Dodgers recalled outfielder Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he batted .292 with eight homers, 37 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 66 games. He was acquired in April from the Athletics in exchange for minor league pitcher Carlos Duran after being designated for assignment on March 30. ___

Max Muncy injury update: Dodgers place infielder on IL with bone bruise
Los Angeles Dodgers were riding high Wednesday following a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox and celebrating Clayton Kershaw's 3,000 career strikeout milestone. The game did, however, have a dark cloud after infielder Max Muncy suffered an injury and needed assistance getting off the field. Muncy had an MRI on Thursday and the team announced that the infielder suffered a left knee bone bruise. The Dodgers have placed Muncy on the injury list and recalled outfielder Esteury Ruiz in a corresponding move. REQUIRED READING: Watch Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw join MLB's 3,000 strikeout club; full list of members Miguel Rojas was announced as the starting third baseman in the Dodgers' lineup for Thursday's game against the White Sox at Dodger Stadium. How did Max Muncy get injured? Max Muncy was injured on Wednesday during a collision with a sliding Michael A. Taylor at third base during the sixth inning. How long is Max Muncy out? Muncy told reporters at his locker he avoided structural damage to his leg, and he will likely miss six weeks with his bone bruise. "When you look at the play and just the injury that could've happened," Muncy said to reporters, per Rowan Cavner, "we possibly got best case scenario. There's no structural damage in there which is huge. You know that was definitely a pleasant relief but the timetable still kind of sucks for me personally. You know you look at around six weeks, maybe a little before, maybe a little after."

Oklahoma State women's tennis program gets three years' probation for recruiting violations
The Oklahoma State women's tennis program of coach Chris Young has been put on probation by the NCAA for recruiting violations. STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State women's tennis team has received a three-year probation sentence from the NCAA for recruiting violations. OSU director of tennis and women's head coach Chris Young improperly contacted potential transfers before the athlete was in the transfer portal and told a player not to cooperate with the investigation, which is a violation of head coach responsibility rules. The news was initially reported by College Tennis Nation. Advertisement The program will serve a three-year probation and pay a fine of $35,000 plus 1% of the women's tennis program budget. It will reduce its official visits by 18% based on the average number of visits for the previous four years. The school prohibited unofficial visits for 10 weeks during the spring of 2025 and prohibited off-campus recruiting for 10 weeks during the 2024-25 academic year. It also prohibited recruiting communications for three weeks during the 2024-25 school year. Such communications will also be prohibited for seven weeks during the coming school year. Young must fulfill a four-year show-cause order, during which he is not allowed to communicate with prospective transfers in December for each year of the order. He is suspended from two regular-season contests during the 2025-26 season. Advertisement The program is required to vacate all team wins and records from matches the improperly recruited transfer participated in. The athlete was not named publicly by the university or the NCAA. OSU representatives could not be reached for further comment. Scott Wright covers Oklahoma State athletics for The Oklahoman.
