Audi driver killed two grammar school pupils in high-speed collision
A mother of two killed two grammar school pupils when she crashed into their stationary car at 96mph. Natasha Allarakhia, 36, was drinking alcohol in her Audi Q2 when she failed to notice another car, which had stopped at temporary traffic lights, until seconds before the collision. Both William Ray, 17, who had driven three of his friends to watch an England football match on TV, and Eddie Shore, his 18-year-old passenger, died as a result of the crash. A second passenger, Jack Prince, then 17, suffered life-changing injuries. Allarakhia, who was driving her female partner and two young daughters, aged seven and 12, claimed not to be the driver when police arrived at the scene and maintained the lie for more than an hour. Lincoln Crown Court heard Allarakhia even 'laughed' when she passed a roadside breath test despite her own two children being present. David Eager, prosecuting, said Ray, known as Will, was waiting at a set of temporary traffic lights on the A17 at North Rauceby, Lincs, on June 20 last year when Allarakhia drove into the back of his Ford Fiesta Mr Eager told the court: 'Not only was she [Allarakhia] driving at 96mph but she was not paying attention all the time. During part of the journey she was drinking from a can of alcohol, literally drinking and driving.' At the scene Allarakhia claimed a friend of her partner was driving and had run off into a field. Allarakhia was asked to take a roadside breath test and replied: 'I've had a drink. I'm not p---ed. I'm not the driver.' The court heard Allarakhia provided a result that meant she was within the legal limit. 'At that point she laughs, again in the presence of her children,' Mr Eager added. Ray and Shore were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where they were later declared dead from their head injuries. 'Selfish actions' At an earlier hearing, Allarakhia, of Turner Crescent in Norwich, pleaded guilty to causing the deaths of Ray, on June 21, and Shore, on June 22, by dangerous driving. Allarakhia also admitted a third charge of causing serious injury to Mr Prince on June 20. Giving evidence from the witness box, Shore's mother, Kerri Foster, told Allarakhia that her 'selfish actions' had robbed her of her son. She revealed that he was about to take up a dream job as a ski lift operator in Canada and described how the family received his successful A-level results eight weeks after his death. The results meant he would have been able to take up a place at university in Leeds. Mrs Foster said: 'Now we will never know what that future had for Eddie.' Judge James House KC jailed Allarakhia for 10 years. The defendant was also made the subject of a 12-and-a-half-year driving ban and must take an extended retest before she can ever drive again.

Tears for boy, two, who died when car crashed into pedestrians in seaside town as locals pay silent tribute and lay flowers at the scene
A group of local firefighters who tried to save a two-year-old boy after he was hit by a car have laid flowers at the scene of the fatal collision. Six crew members from Kent Fire and Rescue Service left a heartbreaking tribute to the youngster who died after a car collided with 'multiple pedestrians' in Whitstable, Kent, on Saturday. They were called to the scene at the junction of Harbour Street and Cromwell Road along with other emergency services at around 8.24pm. The toddler was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, while medics rushed a man to hospital where he is receiving treatment for critical injuries. A man in his 20s has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries. Floral tributes have been left at site of the crash, where locals have also been visiting to pay their respects along with some of the firefighters who assisted at the crash. Many of them were visibly upset as they took a moments silence in memory of the little boy. The firefighters also left a card that said: 'In loving memory of a precious little one. Though only with us for a short time, their light will never be forgotten.' A neighbour, who overlooks the scene of the tragedy, said: 'I heard the smash, then a woman screaming. 'She was saying 'my baby, my baby, you've killed my baby'. 'The car had gone through the metal railings and fallen down onto the ground of the car park about 1.5m below. 'I'm not sure if the baby was underneath, but from my window I could see his mum sitting on the floor screaming. 'When the ambulance came they were giving him CPR but as they put him inside the vehicle with his mum he wasn't moving and I feared the worst. 'Lots of people have left flowers for them. 'I just don't understand how the driver got up enough speed to go through that metal fence because there are traffic lights here. 'It was on my mind all of last night, it is so awful.' Another local resident, who did not want to be named, said: 'We heard the screech and then the bang and we went straight out. 'My husband was with the lady and her son the whole time. We have a two year old ourself so it's very close to home.' She said the car came around the corner way too fast and lost control. She added: 'The family were just walking home along the pavement. Then the guy in a black BMW came round that corner and went straight into them.' 'The RNLI from the lifeboat station were straight there, they were amazing. 'It was an accident to some extent but most people coming around that corner would not lose control. 'They're a local family, I know their little boy went to a local nursery. 'The whole of Whitstable is very sad about it today, it has a very sombre atmosphere.' A pensioner overlooking the scene of the crash said: 'I heard the crash and then a woman screaming. 'There were so many police cars I lost count, but the ambulance couldn't get into the car park which was very inconvenient for it - it had to wait up on the road.' She added: 'One of my neighbour is a first aider so he ran straight out, another person went with blankets.' Canterbury City Council tweeted: 'Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking news.' Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Witnesses, including passengers travelling on the bus who have not yet spoken to police, should call 01622 798538 or email quoting reference BN/AL/058/25.
