Radical plan for Canelo vs Crawford undercard teased by Turki Alalshikh
Canelo is due to defend the undisputed super-middleweight titles against Crawford on 13 September, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The bout will see Crawford, 37, reach a career-highest weight of 167lb, as the American bids to become a three-division undisputed champion. Standing in his way is 34-year-old Mexican Canelo, who recently regained undisputed status at super-middleweight.
And a special, if somewhat contrived, match-up is set to have a special undercard as well.
While no undercard bouts have been announced, Saudi adviser Alalshikh is known for facilitating strong match-ups, and he has shared a unique idea for how September's undercard could play out.
'The undercard, it will be between two or three days,' Alalshikh told The Ring, a magazine that he owns. 'Imagine, for two or three days.
'We have now reached more than 20 fights to do on the undercard, and 90... 95 per cent per cent of this card is talent and people around the world [who] have a very big chance to be a star in the future.
'[Thursday, Friday,] then Saturday. It must be something like this [a fight festival].'
Canelo vs Crawford was originally due to take place on Friday 12 September, but it was then moved back by one day. It will now clash with a UFC Fight Night, despite the fact that UFC president Dana White is a co-promoter of Canelo vs Crawford.

Rejuvenated Rangers make quick return to Anaheim
July 28 - For the second time in a three-week span, the Texas Rangers head to Anaheim, Calif., to open a series with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. But a lot has changed for Bruce Bochy's club in that time. The Rangers were a season-high 11 games back of the first-place Houston Astros in the American League West and looked in grave danger of missing the playoffs when that series began on July 7. But Texas made the most of a nine-game homestand following the All-Star break, winning eight times with the only loss a 2-1 setback to the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers in a game started by reigning Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. The Rangers bring a six-game winning streak into Monday's opener after back-to-back three-game sweeps of the Athletics and the Atlanta Braves, outscoring their opponents 37-14 in the process, and are tied with the Seattle Mariners for the final AL wild-card spot. "We played outstanding baseball here in this homestand," Bochy said following an 8-1 victory over the Braves on Sunday. "Going into the homestand we needed to. We needed to make up some ground. What a great job they did. "The guys didn't get down. They haven't. I think it showed in this homestand." Josh Smith went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and a two-run homer, and Wyatt Langford had a three-run double to lead the Rangers offensively. Jack Leiter picked up his seventh win, allowing one run on two hits over six innings while striking out seven. "It's such a long season, you're not going to be your best the whole 162," Smith said. "Even though we weren't playing great, we still kind of kept ourselves in it, playing right at .500 or just below .500 until we got hot." Texas, a season-high six games over .500 (56-50), now hits the road for seven games beginning with three contests against the Angels followed by a four-game showdown with the Mariners in Seattle. "We've got to keep this going," Smith said. "We can't take our foot off the gas." Right-hander Jacob deGrom (10-2, 2.28 ERA) starts the series opener and will be opposed by right-hander Jack Kochanowicz (3-9, 6.03). deGrom is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in three career starts against Los Angeles. He picked up a no decision in a 6-5 loss on July 7 at Anaheim Stadium that ended with Nolan Schanuel drawing a bases-loaded walk off Hoby Milner in the bottom of the ninth to force Luis Rengifo in with the winning run. Kochanowicz was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake following his last big league start on July 10 against the Rangers -- a game in which he allowed eight runs in eight hits in just 2 2/3 innings of an 11-4 loss. He is 0-4 with a 7.97 ERA in four career starts against Texas. The fourth-place Angels are nine games behind Houston in the AL West and five games behind the Rangers and Seattle for the final wild-card spot. But they come in off a milestone 4-1 victory over the Mariners on Sunday. Mike Trout hit a two-run home run, the 397th of his career, passing Joe Carter into 62nd place on the all-time home run list. The two RBIs also gave Trout 1,001 in his career, third most in franchise history behind Garret Anderson (1,292) and Tim Salmon (1,016). "It's good to finally put a good swing on a ball," Trout said of his 443-foot drive that landed halfway up the batter's eye in dead center. "It takes you teammates getting on base to accomplish that. I can't do it without them." The win was just the second in the last seven games for the Angels. --Field Level Media

Camborne boxing club hopes new home will secure its future
Building a new home for Cornwall's oldest boxing club would help encourage more young people to take up the sport, coaches have and Redruth boxing club has drawn-up plans to knock down its existing home of 60 years and replace it with a purpose-built club said it had submitted the proposals to Cornwall Council and a decision was now due to be made this autumn. It hopes to then secure about £750,000 of funding, with the intention of completing the work by the start of 2028. Coach Paul Murray said: "We need to make sure we keep going - not just for the youth of Camborne but for the history of boxing in Cornwall." The club currently operates out of a 1940s pre-fabricated building on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Murray said the current building was no longer fit for purpose and they had no choice but to build a new one. "Our changing rooms and facilities are not up to the modern standards our governing body expect - so it's now time for us to replace the building with a modern, vibrant building that will be sustainable," he explained. The new gym would be two storeys high and include a ring with spectator seating to allow the club to host competitions. It would also have community space and a cafe to bring in additional club hosts training sessions for under-10s, juniors and adults most weekday evenings. Josh, 14, from Camborne, said he was excited by the plans for the new gym."I think loads of people would come here if it looked like that. I want to be a boxer. Having a better facility will help people get better," he 15, also lives in Camborne and admitted that without the club he would probably just stay at home and be on his phone."I think it's a really good place and it's better than going out and making trouble," he said."It helps me mentally and if I have any anger during school it helps me get it out." Tegan, who is 16 and from Redruth, hoped more modern facilities would attract more girls to the club. "The new building would give us female changing rooms, female toilets. I think it would be great to have more facilities to train and progress," she Murray said they have had conversations with the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport and hoped to access government grants for the new said: "Having a more modern club will bring in more children, more young adults and give them more things to do - to keep them off the street, to get them out of trouble, to stop being on their iPads and computer games. "It'd give the youth of Camborne and the surrounding area somewhere that they're proud of."

Astros look to get back to winning ways at home vs. Nationals
July 28 - The Astros capped another week of variance on Sunday by losing the finale of a four-game series against the Athletics 7-1, which sent Houston to its ninth loss in its last 10 home games. The Astros were swept for the third time this season, with all three of those series coming at home. Houston will continue its seven-game homestand on Monday against the Washington Nationals, seeking solutions for an offense that repeatedly came up short against the Athletics. The Astros finished 3-for-29 with runners in scoring position and stranded 22 baserunners in the series. "We have to make adjustments for the next series," Astros manager Joe Espada said. "We have to go through our game planning and be better in certain spots where we have people on base." The Astros won the final four games of a six-game road trip that preceded their return home. They surrendered that momentum as quickly as they generated it against a last-place team, with another cellar dweller on tap. "It's a series that we've got to put behind us, quickly," Espada said. "We walked, we got some people on base, we just couldn't get that bit hit. So we've got to flush that one out and get ready for the Nationals." Left-hander Framber Valdez (11-4, 2.67 ERA) has the starting assignment for the Astros on Monday. He allowed one run on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts over seven innings in a 3-1 road win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Valdez is unbeaten over his last 13 starts at 10-0 with a 1.86 ERA and 92 strikeouts across 87 innings. The Astros have won all 13 of those contests. Valdez is 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA in two career starts against the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision of a 5-4 home win on June 14, 2023, after allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts over seven innings. Rookie right-hander Brad Lord (2-5, 3.39) is scheduled to start the series opener for the Nationals. He allowed one run on six hits with one strikeout over four innings on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds but did not factor into the decision of a 6-1 home win. It marked his first start since May 6, when he allowed three runs on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts over six innings in a 9-1 home loss to the Cleveland Guardians. Lord made 26 consecutive relief appearances and went 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA. Lord is 1-4 with a 4.15 ERA in 30 1/3 innings over seven starts. Lord will make his first career appearance against the Astros. He is 1-1 with a 4.08 ERA across 11 career games (one start) against the American League. The Nationals won the rubber match of their three-game road series with the Minnesota Twins 7-2 on Sunday. The Nationals have won consecutive series for the second time in four weeks. "It shows that we're beating good teams and that we're a good team ourselves," said Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams, whose leadoff home run in the first inning provided the ignition. "Just keep things going and bring it to Houston." --Field Level Media
