Uttarakhand CM approves funds for multiple development projects
The state government also approved Rs 512.46 lakh for the construction work of 48m span steel girder bridge over Ragganga river in Malkot Kalimati Sera Tiwakhark motor road in development block Gairsain of assembly constituency Karnaprayag of Chamoli district, according to a release.
An amount of Rs 183.47 lakh was also approvel for the reconstruction work of Nigam Nala Wala road by PC and new construction work of road from Soban Ram's house to Suresh Bhatt's house in Kaladhungi assembly constituency of Nainital district and Rs 528.91 lakh was approved for the new construction work of Chaudmanya-Kamatoli motor road in assembly constituency Gangolihat.
The Chief Minister has also approved to increase the annual approved budget from Rs. 5 crore to Rs. 8 crore for smooth functioning of Sainik School, Ghodakhal Nainital and to improve the financial condition of the school.
Additionally, CM Dhami approved the expenditure of Rs. 23.667 crore for expansion and modernization of fire services in the state.
Earlier in the day, CM Dhami met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and discussed important issues related to the state. The Chief Minister requested the Union Defence Minister to merge Ranikhet and Lansdowne Cantonment area with municipalities which will help in the overall development of tourism and public facilities in these areas.
He requested to grant permission to use the military helipads of Dharchula and Joshimath under RCS air service. The Chief Minister also requested to waive the fee payable for the services of the Indian Air Force for disaster and relief work of the state.
The Chief Minister requested the Union Defence Minister to get the maintenance and upkeep work of Tharali Dewal-Mundoli-Van motor road from Gwaldam via Nandkesari done by the Public Works Department in future also.
He said that this road is the main route of the important Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra of the state. 'This is an important journey organised every 12 years, which is proposed for the year 2026. This Yatra is a symbol of the state's religious and cultural faith.'
The Union Defence Minister assured positive action on all the proposals. (ANI)

With only a couple of weeks left for the upcoming the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, commencing August 27, BJP corporator from Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), Jagruti Kaka, was on Tuesday seen urging the civic body departments to complete the 'resurfacing' of a 900-metre stretch of road in her ward to facilitate the transport of a tall Ganesh idol, by a popular local pandal, instead of having to travel a longer roundabout to get to its venue. Kaka, said that she had been asking the local ward and the Road Department officers to repair the said stretch for three days, as bringing the trolley with the tall idol through the uneven road would risk damage to it. Kaka was seen running from one officer to another on Tuesday with a 6pm deadline to have the road repaired. Meanwhile, the VMC officials said that it was impossible to complete carpeting the road in such a short time. Moreover, it would incur an expenditure of about Rs 10 lakh, which would ultimately need to be broken down post-monsoon for smooth levelling. Terming the trend of 'one child' and 'no child' among Patidars as 'fatal', Ahmedabad based Patidar socio-economic organisation, Vishv Umiyadham, requested the community to have three to four children. Addressing the community gathering in Kutch's Nakhatrana recently, Vishv Umiyadham President RP Patel said that since the numerical strength of the community is gradually declining, Patidars should have three to four children. 'If (our) numerical strength decreases, then (our) social and political strength will also decrease. If the political strength decreases, then the strength of Sanatan Dharma will decrease. With declined numerical strength, you will have to fight for your existence,' he said. Referring to the high cases of foeticide among the Patidar community, Patel said that it is no longer the case, but now boards will be put up advertising 'uncles' available on rent.

Air India plane crash: Man who lost mother moves US Federal Court against Boeing
The kin of Kalpana Prajapati, one of the victims of the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, have moved the US Federal Court against Boeing for speedy justice. Talking to news agency ANI, Hir Prajapati, Kalpana's son, said that the family has hired Mike Andrews, a US lawyer who is currently representing over 65 families affected by the tragic crash. He recently slammed Air India for compensation delays for the victims' families, claiming that it would not have happened if Ratan Tata, former Chairperson of the Tata Group, had been alive. 'We expect the raw details of information from the black-box to come before us at the earliest so that we can make further decisions regarding next course of steps, along with our lawyer,' he said. 'In India, trials get dragged for years. We are fighting the case in the US so that a decision is pronounced early. We believe we will get justice,' he added. Mir told ANI that the Indian government and police helped the Prajapati family 'a lot' at the time of the incident. 'We are thankful to the doctors, too, who handed over the bodies to us after a swift DNA test.' Sharing the tragic detail of the accident, Mir said his mother, Kalpana Prajapati, had rescheduled the flight twice only to end up on the fateful crash. 'I had initially booked a 9th June flight for her but she had fast and she told me that she cannot travel that day. So, I then rescheduled it to 11th June. But she told me that she doesn't want to travel on an odd date. So, I finally booked a ticket for 12th June,' he said. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the 241 people who died in the June 12 crash of Air India flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad. The London-bound Boeing 787, carrying 242 people--including 230 passengers, 10 crew members, and two pilots--crashed shortly after takeoff.

170.4 acres of Kolkata port land encroached: Centre
KOLKATA: A huge amount of land owned by the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP) in Kolkata is under illegal encroachment, the Parliament was informed on Tuesday. Replying to a question of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said that 706 encroachers are currently occupying 170.4 acres of precious land belonging to the Kolkata Dock System of SMP, Kolkata. The Ministry also indicated that SMP is incurring a financial loss due to the encroachment. Later, Bhattacharya, who is also West Bengal BJP president, claimed that it is not possible to remove this encroachment due to the non-cooperation of the state administration. He sought from the minister details regarding the purpose of the lands owned by SMP, how much land is encroached, how many encroachers are there, and what is the annual income of the port. In response, Sonowal said that 421 acres of land are being used in the 'custom bound area'. There are 4,122 acres of land outside it. And 170.4 acres of land have been encroached upon by 706 encroachers. The Minister informed the Rajya Sabha that SMP has generated revenue amounting to Rs 2994.54 crore over the last five years. In a bid to enhance land monetisation and optimise asset utilisation, SMP Kolkata has implemented several strategic initiatives like development of warehousing facilities, ship repair services, riverside development and more.
