Sydney nurse who allegedly threatened Israeli patients taken to hospital as ‘unedited' video released
A nurse at the centre of a video chat showing two New South Wales hospital workers allegedly making anti-Israeli threats to an Israeli influencer has been taken to hospital due to 'welfare concerns', police say.
The influencer, Max Veifer, on Friday released what he said was the 'unedited version' of the video involving two Bankstown hospital nurses.
NSW police, meanwhile, said emergency services were called to a Bankstown home on Thursday night 'following reports of a concern for welfare'.
'A 27-year-old man was taken to hospital for assessment,' a spokesperson said in a statement on Friday. 'No further information is available.'
Police said on Thursday they spoke with the Israeli influencer who they said had agreed to provide investigators with an unedited version of the video chat. In a statement on Friday, police said they were aware an extended version had been posted online, 'however nothing has been directly provided to NSW Police'.
'Discussions between NSW Police and the influencer remain open and ongoing.'
The shorter video posted to Instagram by Veifer earlier this week attracted widespread political condemnation, with the prime minister, Anthony Albanese, condemning the footage as 'sickening and shameful'.
Veifer posted a two-minute video on Friday with the caption: 'The police are asking me for the unedited version. I have nothing to hide. Here it is and if they tell me where to send it I will send it to them.'
The video begins with the male nurse, Ahmad Rashad Nadir, and Veifer greeting each other.
When Veifer says he is from Israel, Nadir replies: 'I'm going to be really honest with you. You've actually got really, really beautiful eyes, but I'm so upset that you're Israeli. Eventually, you're going to get killed and you're going to go to Jahannam [hell]'.
Veifer responds: 'Why do you think I'm going to get killed? Maybe because I served in the IDF?'
Nadir replies: 'That's definitely the answer, correct.'
Veifer then states 'that's the reason, I served in the IDF, what is the problem with that?' to which the female nurse, Sarah Abu Lebdeh, speaks offscreen for the first time stating: 'Because you killed innocent people that's why.'
'I was protecting my country,' Veifer responds. Abu Lebdeh asks: 'So you kill innocent people to protect your country? What kind of soul do you have?'
The NSW health minister, Ryan Park, launched an investigation on Wednesday after the edited video was published. Park identified the pair as nurses from Bankstown hospital.
The federal health minister, Mark Butler, said on Thursday the Nursing and Midwifery Council of NSW had suspended both nurses' registrations.
'Australians have a right to feel safe wherever they go and nowhere should be safer than a hospital,' Butler said. 'Their sickening comments – and the hatred that underpins them – have no place in our health system and no place anywhere in Australia.'

Veifer told Sky News on Wednesday night he 'created content' using online video chats where he worked to 'expose people'.
'I was talking with these two nurses … and as soon as they found out I am from Israel they started cursing me and threatening me – that they are going to kill me and never going to treat Israeli patients at their hospital,' he said of the edited exchange he released online.
'I was shocked. It's insane that so far away in Australia the hate has gotten so far. I was shocked but I had a mission to accomplish. I had to expose them, so I had to stay calm and get as much info as I can so I can post it and show my people and we can find them.'
The NSW police commissioner, Karen Webb, told ABC radio on Thursday that officers had interviewed staff at Bankstown hospital, obtained CCTV footage, and had spoken with the influencer in Israel who agreed to provide the unedited version of the video.
Webb said investigators had also spoken to the solicitors representing the two nurses regarding the alleged 'hate crime'.
Mohamad Sakr, a solicitor representing Nadir, said on Wednesday his client had sincerely apologised to the individual in question and the broader Jewish community.
'He understands what has happened, he is trying to make amends,' Sakr said.
Rayan Kadadi, a solicitor representing Abu Lebdeh, said in a statement: 'As you can all appreciate this is a very emotional and distressing time for my client and her family.'
'Given there is a pending investigation it will be inappropriate to make any further comment,' Kadadi said. Neither nurse has been charged over the video.
In the video, Veifer asks the nurses what they would do if an Israeli were to come to their hospital. Abu Lebdeh responds: 'I won't treat them, I will kill them.' Nadir says: 'You have no idea how many [Israelis] came to this hospital, and I sent them to Jahannam [hell]. I literally sent them to Jahannam.'

Israel confirms Hamas terror chief ‘The Shadow' is dead as it releases footage of his hiding place in secret tunnels
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that Hamas chief Mohammed Sinwar was killed in a strike on the European hospital in southern Gaza as it released footage of his body being discovered in secret tunnels. The de facto leader of the terror group, 49, was eliminated in an IDF strike on May 13 with troops on Sunday recovering his body from a tunnel in Khan Yunis. The military made the announcement after the body had gone through an identification process, with the military sharing on X Sinwar's alleged Israeli and Hamas documentation, as well as his driver's license. In bodycam footage of the find also posted to X, a soldier enters a deep tunnel outside the medical facility before making their way down a dim corridor. They stumble into a packed out room filled with what appears to be guns and ammunition before panning the camera to find Sinwar's camouflaged body on the ground. The IDF member then makes their way through several other tunnels which lead to dark rooms filled with equipment. The IDF wrote: 'Mohammad Sinwar was responsible for the deaths of countless civilians. He was eliminated in an IDF & ISA strike on May 13. 'His body was found beneath the European hospital in Khan Yunis - more proof of how Sinwar, and Hamas, hide behind their civilians and purposely embed themselves in civilian areas, such as hospitals. According to Israeli reports, its military took advantage of Sinwar briefly separating himself from some of the hostages who remain in Hamas custody following the atrocities of October 7, 2023. Sinwar used the hostages as human shields, confident Israel would not target him, but he attended talks with Hamas political leaders on May 13 without them. Word reached Israeli military commanders, and to the surprise of those involved in the operation, authorization was granted for air strikes close to the hospital. Mohammed Sinwar took over the leadership of Hamas's military wing last year following the death of his older brother Yahya. Remarkable footage recorded by a drone showed Yahya sitting in an armchair in the devastated remains of a multi-story building following an air strike in October. He appeared to wave a piece of floorboard in defiance at the reconnaissance drone. Minutes later an air strike reduced the structure to rubble. Israeli soldiers subsequently dragged Yahya's body from the rubble. His death was a watershed moment for the country as he was the main planner behind the October 7 attacks which killed 1,200 people and resulted in 250 hostages being taken into Gaza. The atrocity triggered Israel's retaliatory assault on the Occupied Palestinian Territories which has cost more than 50,000 lives, led to two million people being displaced and caused a humanitarian catastrophe. The celebration in Israel surrounding Mohammed Sinwar's death came amid shocking scenes of humanitarian aid centers being over-run and crowds looting boxes of desperately needed supplies in Gaza. Controversially, Israel has sidelined the major international aid agencies and set up its own distribution system in conjunction with the U.S. It said it did not want Hamas to intercept aid meant for Gaza residents. Opponents of Israel have accused the country of orchestrating the provision of lifesaving supplies effectively to enable ethnic cleansing.

Greta Thunberg deported from Israel after Gaza-bound aid boat was intercepted

The crew on board the Madleen, who had planned to sail to Gaza to deliver aid, were scooped up by Israeli Navy boats before they reached shore and towed to the port of Ashdod. Eight of the 12 activists refused to sign deportation papers and are being detained pending a court hearing. Thunberg and three others signed the papers and were flown out. Thunberg was flown to the Charles De Gaulle Airport alongside French activists and will then head home to her native Sweden. 'I do more good outside of Israel than if I am forced to stay here for a few weeks,' she said, according to Moatasem Zedan, a spokesperson for the human rights group Adalah who is providing legal representation to the activists. Israel's Foreign Ministry shared a photo of the disgruntled 22-year-old sitting on board the plane moments before the flight departed Israel's Ben Gurion airport. Prior to her deportation, Defence Minister Israel Katz said he'd instructed IDF officials to show the activists the full, unedited footage of the October 7 attacks as recorded by Hamas terrorist body cameras. He said: 'It is appropriate that the anti-Semitic Greta and her fellow Hamas supporters see exactly who the Hamas terrorist organization they came to support and for whom they work is, what atrocities they committed against women, the elderly, and children, and against whom Israel is fighting to defend itself.' However, he told reporters: 'Greta and her companions were taken into a room upon their arrival to the screening of the horror film of the October 7 massacre... when they saw what it was about, they refused to continue watching. 'The anti-Semitic flotilla members are turning a blind eye to the truth and have proven once again that they prefer the murderers to the murdered and continue to ignore the atrocities committed by Hamas against Jewish and Israeli women, adults, and children.' The voyage of the Madleen from the Italian island of Sicily to Gaza was planned by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), an organization founded shortly after October 7, 2023 to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The activists had set out to protest Israel's military campaign in the territory, which it claims amounts to genocide, and Israel's restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid. Israel's military operations and aid blockades have put the territory of around two million Palestinians at risk of famine. The FFC said the activists were 'kidnapped by Israeli forces' while trying to deliver desperately needed aid on Monday. A statement read: 'The ship was unlawfully boarded, its unarmed civilian crew abducted and its life-saving cargo - including baby formula, food and medical supplies - confiscated.' It added the ship was seized in international waters about 120 miles from Gaza, and Adalah asserted that Israel had 'no legal authority' to take it over. The Madleen was said to have been shadowed by speedboats and drones before 'quadcopters' surrounded and sprayed the ship with an unidentified 'white irritant substance', shortly before the IDF seized it. Israel's Foreign Ministry meanwhile has portrayed the voyage as nothing more than a publicity stunt, referring to the Madleen as 'the selfie yacht'.
