Rohit Sharma Personally Requested Gautam Gambhir To Reappoint T Dilip: Report
Last Updated:
According to various reports, India fielding coach T Dilip has been given a one-year extension.
T Dilip has reportedly been retained as the India men's fielding coach for another year by the BCCI weeks after parting ways. Along with Dilip, the BCCI had unceremoniously sacked batting coach Abhishek Nayar last month. However, failing to find a suitable replacement meant the board called back Dilip, who will take charge from India's five-match Test tour of England that starts from June 20.
According to Cricbuzz, former Test and T20I captain Rohit Sharma played a major role in convincing the BCCI and head coach Gautam Gambhir to keep hold of Dilip.
Quoting sources, the publication reports that Rohit, who announced his Test retirement earlier this month, personally requested Gambhir to reappoint the Hyderabadi, who has reportedly been given a one-year contract.
'Dilip is a good coach, who served the team well for over three years (from 2021). He knows most of these cricketers very closely. So, to have him on board for a big series (vs England) will do the team only good," a source close to the development told news agency PTI.
'So, there is no point in bringing in a fresh name at this stage, and Dilip is very popular with players too," the source added.
The BCCI is said to have been keen on roping in a foreign name as fielding coach but failed to find a suitable candidate in the required time.
During his stint, Dilip became a popular figure among the Indian players and on social media as he introduced 'fielding medals", which was awarded to the best player from each match.
An India A team will play a couple of unofficial Test matches starting May 30 before the series starts.

‘England playing interesting style of circket, but I don't really understand it too much': Jasprit Bumrah
As the Indian cricket team moves to a new era with a fresh face, Shubman Gill in the leadership role in Test matches, a challenging time lies ahead with the tour of England fast approaching. With a relatively inexperienced batting set-up without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the added responsibilities come into the bowling department, which will be led by Jasprit Bumrah. One of the finest all-format pacers, perhaps the best Test bowler for India in ages, Bumrah will lead the bowling pack in challenging English conditions. 'Playing in England is always a different challenge. I always love bowling with the Dukes ball,' said Bumrah in conversation with Michael Clarke on his Beyond 23 podcast. 'But I don't know how much the Duke's ball is doing right now because there's always constant changes to the ball. But the weather, the swinging conditions. And then when the ball becomes soft, there's always a challenge. So I always look forward to playing in England,' he added while speaking about the challenges faced once the ball gets softer. The upcoming tour will be Bumrah's third in England. The 31-year-old believes the bowling line-up of India is capable of troubling any team in any conditions. 'As a bowling unit, we always feel confident that when the batters are being ultra-aggressive, on a given day, anybody could run through and get wickets,' said Bumrah. He also commented on England's ultra-aggressive 'Bazball' approach and said, 'They're playing an interesting style of cricket, which is interesting because I don't really understand it too much.' The five-match Test series against England will start from June 20 to July 4 and will be played in five venues for nearly two months. 'The first Test will be played in Leeds, then in Birmingham before moving to London's iconic Lord's, and the last two Tests will be played in Manchester and The Oval. The ace pacer was in reckoning for the Test leadership but since he is unlikely to feature in all five Tests, looking at his workload management, the selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar decided to go with Gill instead.

Because we are world number 27 right now. Last year when we played Singapore, we were world number one. So, yeah, it feels really good that we could beat Goh and Izzuddin. Because we lost to them at the start of the year in the semi-finals of India Open. So, sweet victory," Chirag said."Really happy with the way we played over the past couple of days. And looking forward to tomorrow now."Satwik and Chirag will next face third-seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia."We have played them before many times. We couldn't capitalise in the India Open. But, we were well-prepared. We are more focusing on our strategy than the opponent's strategy. We wanted to play our A game and see what they come up with," said Satwik, who was down with health issues in April and had to miss the Sudirman Cup."We are not just thinking too much about the opponents. We are preparing ourselves every point in each and every point. We are supporting each other and it's been a quiet two-month journey. So, really happy with the way we played and looking forward for more."This is their third semifinal appearance of the season, having reached the last-four stage at both the Malaysia and India Open earlier this year. The last time the two played was in March at the All England Championships, which ended with Chirag aggravating his back injury and the duo was forced to withdraw in the second round. Chirag, the 27-year-old from Mumbai, said he had doubts if he would be able to play in Singapore."Every day I'm getting better. We didn't really know how and if we will be able to play at Singapore because, frankly speaking, we just trained for 10 days in a span of two months," he said."And for me, I had a lot of doubts whether I will be able to play because with my back condition, I didn't really know how it will go. But I think it's really amazing that we could play the way we are."The former world No.1 Indians held a 6-2 head-to-head record against the Malaysians going into the match, although they had lost their most recent meeting at the India Open. Table Tennis
It was the pre-quarterfinal at the WTT Star Contender Chennai in March and instead of celebrating his win Snehit Suravajjula simply stepped aside after the match. It was a moment to cherish for his defeated opponent, celebrated Indian paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal, as he called time on his glorious two-decade-long career. When they later teamed up in the doubles to make the semi-final, it was symbolic of the past and present of Indian table tennis coming together for an encore. 'It was an honour to play against him as well as partner him in his final tournament. I've grown up watching Sharath anna, trained with him and reached out to him with all kinds of questions,' says Suravajjula.
