Assam: Devotees throng Kamakhya Temple for Ambubachi Mela in Guwahati
Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 24 (ANI): A large number of devotees arrived at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati on Tuesday to offer prayers on the third day of the four-day Ambubachi Mela.
The annual event commemorates the yearly menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, believed to be the embodiment of feminine power.
Ambubachi Mela takes place during the monsoon season, specifically in the Assamese month of Ahaar, around the middle of June.
After conducting Ambubachi Prabritti rituals, the main door of the Kamakhya temple closed on 22nd June and will reopen on June 26. It is one of the most revered centres of Tantric practices and is regarded as one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India.
The annual Ambubachi Mela, one of Assam's most revered Hindu festivals, commenced on Sunday at the historic Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati. The event began with traditional rituals, marking the start of the four-day-long celebration that draws devotees from across India and abroad.
The Kamakhya temple management committee and the Kamrup (Metro) district administration have made all arrangements for the Ambubachi Mela.
Meawhile, in a post on X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended wishes for the festival, 'Today marks the beginning of the #Ambubachi Mahayog, an annual celebration of Maa Kamakhya's divine femininity. Spiritual Gurus and devotees from across the country will dawn upon the sacred Nilachal Hills to pray for Bharat. I welcome all pilgrims to Assam & wish everyone a divine experience and the choicest blessings of Maa Kamakhya.'
According to the government of Assam website, the Kamakhya temple, 7 km from Guwahati, is one of the largest Shakti shrines in the country. Situated on the Nilachal hills, it is an important pilgrimage centre for tantric worshippers and Hindus.
Several other pujas are organised in this temple, including Durga Puja, Durgadeul and Madandeul. Some of the other pujas performed in this temple include Manasa Puja, Pohan Biya and Vasanti Puja. (ANI)

It later landed at Hyderabad airport at 12:38 PM, they added. Earlier, Air India flight AI357, operating from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Delhi, was diverted to make an unscheduled landing in Kolkata on Sunday as a precautionary measure following elevated cabin temperatures during the journey. According to an official statement from the airline, the flight landed safely and is currently being inspected. "Air India flight AI357, operating from Haneda to Delhi on 29 June 2025, made a precautionary diversion to Kolkata due to persistent warm temperatures experienced in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely in Kolkata and is currently undergoing checks," said the Air India airline further said, "Our ground colleagues in Kolkata are providing all necessary support to passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen diversion. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly our passengers to Delhi at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers."

J-K: Joint mock landslide drill conducted in Udhampur ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 29 (ANI): In a preemptive effort to ensure safety during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2025, a joint mock landslide drill was conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the JKSDRF (Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Response Force) at Samroli, Toldi Nallah, on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday. The exercise aimed to assess emergency preparedness in case of landslides or natural disasters during the pilgrimage. The simulation involved rescuing stranded vehicles and providing immediate aid to injured pilgrims, with security and disaster response teams efficiently coordinating evacuation and medical assistance. During the drill, a mock victim was safely rescued by the joint teams, administered first aid, and transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance. The exercise demonstrated seamless coordination among agencies for rapid response in real emergencies. Deputy SP (Headquarters) Udhampur, Prehlad Kumar, emphasised that security forces are fully equipped to handle any challenges during the yatra and ensure pilgrims' safety. He stated that such drills enhance the readiness of disaster management and security personnel to address emergencies and protect devotees throughout the pilgrimage season. The exercise reaffirms the administration's commitment to a safe and smooth Amarnath Yatra 2025. Meanwhile, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Saturday, held a joint security review meeting in Udhampur for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start from July 1 to August 9, a release said. The meeting was held to check preparations and boost coordination among all agencies involved. The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur-Resai range Sarah Rizvi-, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Amod Nagpure, Additional SP Udhampur, other senior Officers of the District Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and traffic police. SSP Udhampur gave a detailed presentation highlighting the district's security plan, including deployment of forces, convoy and traffic management, safety of camps and langar sites, emergency plans, and readiness of Quick Reaction Teams. Addressing the meeting, the DGP emphasised to all the officers to maintain very close coordination, which he said is of utmost importance to ensure an incident-free Yatra. He directed that the zonal/sectoral officers must have the information regarding the availability and location of special teams like Drone Units, BD squad, Dog squad, QRTs etc. to ensure that services of these teams are utilised on a real-time basis in case of any emergency. Uttarakhand: Search on for 7 missing workers after Uttarkashi cloudburst
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 29 (ANI): Search and rescue operations are underway in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district after a cloudburst triggered a massive landslide near Barkot on Sunday, killing two workers and leaving seven others missing. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the disaster management department, and the local administration are continuing their search to trace the missing workers, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said. Addressing a press conference, CM Dhami said that 20 of the 29 people present at the site had been rescued safely. 'The bodies of two people have been recovered. Search operations are ongoing,' he said, adding that all district officials have been instructed to remain on high alert throughout the monsoon season. According to officials, the incident occurred near the Silai Band area on the Barkot-Yamunotri road, after a landslide triggered by a cloudburst demolished an under-construction hotel. Officials said that two bodies have been recovered so far, while efforts to locate the remaining missing workers were ongoing. 'Bodies of two out of the nine workers have been recovered who went missing from an under-construction hotel, at Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunatri road in Uttarkashi, after the cloud burst incident,' Uttarkashi District Magistrate's office stated in a statement. 'There have been landslides at two locations before Silai Band, and a washout of the road at one location,' the statement added. Meanwhile, due to the severe weather conditions, the Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for 24 hours, officials said. CM Dhami stated that arrangements are being made for food, shelter, and accommodation for stranded pilgrims. 'As soon as the weather improves, travel will resume. Until then, all necessary support is being provided,' he added. Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey told ANI that pilgrims have been halted at key locations including Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag, and Vikasnagar as a precaution. The suspension follows continuous heavy rainfall that has triggered disruptions across the hill state. The Badrinath National Highway, a main route for Kedarnath pilgrims, has been blocked near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani. In a post on X, Chamoli Police said, 'The Badrinath National Highway is blocked near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani. Work is underway to open the road.' (ANI)
