Devin Fitzgerald, son of NFL legend Larry Fitzgerald, visits Notre Dame
Notre Dame is coming off arguably its biggest recruiting weekend of the offseason, and Devin Fitzgerald was not disappointed.
The Class of 2026 receiver from Brophy College Prep (Phoenix, AZ), who is the son of NFL legend Larry Fitzgerald, returned to South Bend for an official visit and was able to congregate with other recruits, current players and coaches.
Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman hosted all of the official visitors at his house for food and games Friday night, which was one of the highlights of the visit.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder, who is a three-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, will take an official visit to North Carolina next weekend and then make his commitment July 5.
Could ND land yet another legacy recruit?
Last season, Fitzgerald hauled in 52 passes for 720 yards with nine touchdowns.

Robert Griffin III says Michael Penix Jr. will NFL's 'breakout QB' of 2025 Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. receives praise from former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year After several mediocre seasons, the Atlanta Falcons have a real shot to turn things around in 2025. While we've seen this team compete for the NFC South title in recent years, Atlanta hasn't made the playoffs since 2017. Second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will be at the helm of whatever success the Falcons have this season. The former No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft started just three games for Atlanta last season but will enter 2025 as the team's unquestioned starter. Despite Penix's lack of experience, former NFL quarterback-turned-analyst Robert Griffin III believes the Falcons quarterback is on the verge of a "breakout" season. Griffin, or "RGIII" as most know him as, noted Penix's arm talent and ability to stand in the pocket in the face of the pass rush. The former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year believes these traits give Penix a solid foundation to build around as a quarterback. We've seen many great college quarterbacks struggle to adjust to the pass rush at the NFL level. Griffin noted Penix's impressive average of 17.3 yards per completion when under pressure last season. Griffin's comments come on the heels of praise also given by a former Falcons quarterback, Kurt Benkert, as he predicts Penix will break 5,000 all-purpose yards. Considering he isn't known for using his legs to get down field, a large portion of that would likely have to come through the air. It's not just Penix's talent that has those around the NFL buying in. The young signal-caller's supporting cast should truly give him a chance to succeed this season. Drake London, Bijan Robinson and Darnell Mooney will present matchup problems for any opposing defense. Plus, fifth-year tight end Kyle Pitts is not someone to sleep on this season. Penix will be Pitts' fifth starting quarterback since joining the Falcons in 2021. So while a lot of people are quick to hammer the 24-year-old for not consistently putting up Pro Bowl numbers, having consistent quarterback play could be all he needs to succeed.

Countdown to Kickoff: Treyton Welch is the Saints Player of Day 82 Welch looks to beat the odds and grab a roster spot with the Saints this offseason We are inching closer to the 2025 NFL regular season, with now 82 days away from the New Orleans Saints opening game against the Arizona Cardinals. It will officially be the first game on the sidelines for new coach Kellen Moore, as the Saints expect improvement from their 5-12 mark in 2024. Tight end Treyton Welch currently wears number 82 for the Saints. After a stint on their practice squad in 2024, Welch is fighting for a spot on this year's active roster. Our Saints Player of the Day now gets a closer look at his background and career. From Buffalo High School in Minnesota, Welch wandered west collegiately to the University of Wyoming. He played sparingly in his first two years, catching only 5 passes in 13 game appearances. In 2021, Welch saw more action and had 19 receptions for 163 yards and 2 scores for the Cowboys. Welch had 308 receiving yards in both 2022 (22 catches) and 2023 (31 catches) while scoring a combined 7 touchdowns. He was second among Wyoming players in receiving yards in 2022 and second on the team in receptions during the 2023 campaign. Not selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, Welch was signed by the Cleveland Browns. In three preseason games, Welch caught 7 passes for 53 yards. Cleveland released him at the end of the preseason. New Orleans would promptly sign him to their practice squad. Welch remained on the Saints practice squad all season and has yet to see any regular season action. Treyton Welch has a lot of competition to make the roster for New Orleans this summer. The Saints return starter Juwan Johnson, along with Foster Moreau and the versatile Taysom Hill. Dallin Holker also returns after spending his 2024 rookie campaign on the practice squad. Additionally, the Saints also used a seventh round draft choice on UCLA tight end Moliki Matavao and signed Jack Stoll in free agency. Welch was at his best as a move tight end at Wyoming, most effective as a receiver in motion or from the slot. He has solid hands and decent open field agility to turn some heads as a receiver. If Welch can improve his blocking and his routes as an in-line tight end, he just might surprise when roster decisions are made.
