Kane admits England lacked quality in Andorra win

England captain Harry Kane admits Thomas Tuchel's side 'got away with it' having put in a sloppy display in Saturday's drab encounter with minnows Andorra.
After starting World Cup qualification, and the German's reign, with Wembley wins against Albania and Latvia, things fell flat against the 173rd-best team in the world in Barcelona.
England were booed by many of the 6,950 travelling fans after a scoreless first half against Andorra, with further jeers greeting the final whistle after Tuchel's men failed to kick on from Kane's 50th-minute goal.
The candid head coach felt the Euro 2024 runners-up 'played with fire' due to their lack of 'seriousness and urgency', with the skipper sharing similar sentiments.
'It wasn't our greatest performance,' Kane said. 'I don't think it's one many people are going to remember, that's for sure, but it's three points in the bag.
'But, yeah, for sure we know we can play better in all aspects, both with and without the ball.
'It's down to us now to go analyse it, look back and try and learn from it because condition-wise it's going to be very similar to next summer - dry pitch, warm weather, humid.
'We were just lacking quality, looked a bit fatigued both physically and mentally and, yeah, we got away with it because we're a good team and they had a couple of half-chances there where we didn't get punished. But ultimately, it wasn't good enough.'
Kane has scored in all three matches under Tuchel, his former manager at Bayern Munich, with the latest effort extending England's all-time top scorer's record goal haul to 72.
Noni Madueke capped a man-of-the-match display by providing the cross for the winner and the captain felt this kind of match cried out for the directness of a talent like the Chelsea winger.
'He was really good today,' Kane said as attention turns to Tuesday's friendly against Senegal. 'I think in these type of games, you need players like Noni who are good one-v-one to sometimes make a difference.
'It's a dry pitch, not easy to move the ball quickly, so sometimes you rely on individual quality and I thought he was probably our best outlet today.'

PA Media/dpa London Luciano Spalletti finished his spell as Italy manager with a 2-0 win over Moldova to get their first points of the World Cup qualifying campaign. Former Napoli boss Spalletti had announced on Sunday that the Group I fixture in Reggio Emilia would be his last, having seen his side slump to a 3-0 defeat away Norway in their opening game. Moldova had an early header from Ion Nicolaescu ruled out offside following a video assistant referee review. Italy broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time through Giacomo Raspadori's strike from the edge of the penalty area and Andrea Cambiaso added another soon after the restart. Japan score six in World Cup qualifier to match record against Indonesia
Daichi Kamada has scored twice as Japan has rounded off their successful World Cup qualifying campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Patrick Kluivert's Indonesia in Osaka. Kamada, an FA Cup winner with Crystal Palace in England this season, struck twice in Tuesday's first half as already qualified Japan finished their campaign as Group C winners, scoring 30 goals in their 10 matches. Takefusa Kubo, Ryoya Morishita, Shuto Machino and substitute Mao Hosoya were also on target against Indonesia, who finished fourth in the group. Kluivert's side, who were backed by a large number of supporters who had travelled to Japan, advance to a further round with five other teams to decide two more Asian qualifiers for next year's tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Japan lost their unbeaten qualifying record in a 1-0 defeat away to Australia last week with coach Hajime Moriyasu fielding an experimental lineup with qualification already in the bag. He started with two more debutants against Indonesia, handing first caps to defender Junnosuke Suzuki and winger Shunsuke Mito. Kamada opened the scoring in the 15th minute, heading home from a Mito cross. The Palace forward turned provider for his team's second, combining with Kubo before the Real Sociedad man fired past Indonesia goalkeeper Emil Audero. Indonesia lost defender Kevin Diks to injury midway through the first half, and his replacement Yakob Sayuri lasted only 15 minutes before he also had to go off after a clash of heads. Ronaldo set to stay at Al Nassr with another World Cup looming
dpa Munich Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly ended speculation about his club future, saying he will continue to play at Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr as he also probably also sets his sights on next year's World Cup. 'Nothing is going to change. Playing at Al-Nassr? Yes,' he was quoted as saying early Monday by multiple reports after captaining Portugal to the Nations League title in Munich. Ronaldo, 40, joined Al-Nassr in 2023 after falling out with coach Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. His current contract is until June 30. FIFA president Gianni Infantino had recently suggested that Ronaldo could move to a side qualified for the upcoming Club World Cup. Ronaldo on Saturday confirmed talks but said he won't be at the tournament in the United States. On Sunday, Portugal beat Spain 5-3 on penalties to give Ronaldo and his team a third trophy, the others being at Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League. 'I have many titles but there is nothing better than winning with the national team,' the five-time Ballon d'Or winner said. Ronaldo scored the 2-2 equalizer in the 61st minute which eventually set up the shoot-out, but came off in the 88th with an apparant thigh problem. He had also scored the 2-1 winner in Wednesday's semi-final against Germany. The two goals brought his tally to 138, from 221 caps, which are both world records in the men's game. Coach Robert Martinez said that Ronaldo had played a 'decisive role' in winning the title, after some had expressed scepticism whether the veteran still had a lot to give. Martinez has also come under criticism, mainly from the Portuguese media, over not always glorious performances of the team. Ronaldo named the criticism 'unfair,' and Portugal did indeed impress in Germany with well-executed tactics that stopped the resurgent host team and than also the classy Spaniards around their teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. Ronaldo won the duel of the generations agianst the 17-year-old Yamal on the night but they may meet again at next year's World Cup, a title still eluding Ronaldo. Sunday's final showed that Ronaldo can still electrify the fans, and the hosting Americans, Canadians and Mexicans are expected to share the excitement in what would be his sixth World Cup. For Nuno Mendes, the Man of the Match on Sunday with a goal and assist as well as containing Yamal, there is no doubt about Ronaldo's value. 'He helps us a lot. He has a winning mentality. He is a role model. We are happy to have him,' Mendes said.
