New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved a one-year suspension of the financial aid under the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to farmers who are involved in stubble burning, and their produce will not be purchased at the MSP for one year, a minister has said, according to media reports.
The government will stop providing financial aid under the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to farmers who engage in stubble burning, and their output would not be bought as per the MSP for a year, state Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said after the cabinet meeting earlier this week.
The state government is taking stringent measures to curb pollution-causing stubble burning, the minister said, according to media reports.
The government does not intend to penalise the farmers in any way. But, the farmers should also understand they they do not cause big losses for small gains. Their own children will suffer if the ecosystem is affected, the minister said, as per the media reports.

India's agricultural sector has undergone a "profound transformation" over the past 11 years through various government schemes and increased budgetary allocations, empowering farmers to lead the nation from food security to global food leadership , the government said on Saturday. MSP for wheat rose from Rs 1,400 per quintal in 2013-14 to Rs 2,425 per quintal in 2024-25, while paddy prices increased from Rs 1,310 per quintal in 2013-14 to Rs 2,369 per quintal in 2025-26. Under the PM-KISAN scheme launched in February 2019, the government has disbursed Rs 3.7 lakh crore to more than 110 million farmers. The Kisan Credit Card scheme has provided about Rs 10 lakh crore in credit to 7.71 crore farmers. Procurement data shows improvement across crops. Kharif crop procurement totalled 787.1 million tonnes between FY15 and FY25 compared to 467.9 million tonnes in the previous decade from 2004-05 to 2013-14. Pulses procurement at MSP increased significantly from 1,52,000 tonnes during 2009-2014 to 8.3 million tonnes during 2020-2025, while oilseeds procurement at MSP increased multifold over the past 11 years. The government's approach has focused on modern irrigation, credit access, digital marketplaces and agri-tech innovations while reviving traditional practices like millet cultivation and natural farming. Allied sectors, including dairy and fisheries, are also expanding. "As India enters Amrit Kaal, its empowered farmers stand ready to lead the nation from food security to global food leadership," the statement said.

But abroad, if a (woman) wears fewer clothes, then it is considered good. Now, this is their (foreigners) thinking." Citing Indian tradition, the minister said he sees women as a form of goddess. 'I believe in our country (India), women are a form of goddess. They should wear very good clothes,' he told the gathering. A video of Vijayvargiya's remarks has since gone viral on social media. Several BJP leaders and local public representatives were present at the event. Vijayvargiya made these comments while rejecting a Western saying that compares short speeches to short clothes worn by women. "Look, there is a western saying which is not good, but this saying is discussed a lot in foreign countries... It is said there (abroad) that just as a girl wearing less clothes is beautiful, similarly, a leader giving a short speech is also very good. MP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya says he disagrees with trend of women wearing ‘skimpy clothes'
Senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has said he disapproves of the trend of women wearing 'skimpy clothes', insisting that it was a foreign concept of beauty and not in consonance with Indian tradition. Citing Indian culture, the minister said that he considered women as a 'form of goddess'. 'If a girl here (in India) wears good and pretty clothes, does good makeup and wears nice jewellery, then people consider her very beautiful. But abroad, if a (woman) wears less clothing, then it is considered good. Now, this is their (foreigners') thinking,' maintained Vijayvargiya. He made the remarks on Thursday while terming inappropriate a foreign proverb that compares the short speeches of leaders with the short clothes of women. Vijayvargiya praised the brief speech given by local unit president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sumit Mishra at a programme organised on World Environment Day in his hometown Indore, and said he favoured short public addresses. 'Look, there is a western saying which is not good, but this saying is discussed a lot in foreign countries... It is said there (abroad) that just as a girl wearing less clothing is beautiful, similarly a leader giving a short speech is also very good. There is such a saying in foreign countries, but I do not follow it,' said the BJP leader. Amidst laughter and applause from the audience, the cabinet minister averred he does not consider this foreign saying appropriate. 'I do not follow this saying.
