Many former cricketers have opined that India should refuse to play against Pakistan, in order to respect the soldiers and people who lost their lives during the border tensions. Echoing that opinion, former India batter Kedar Jadhav also stated that the match against Pakistan should be cancelled.
"I think the Indian team should not play at all. As far as India is concerned, I think that wherever India plays, it will always win, but this match should not be played at all," Jadhav told the media on Sunday.

"Ye match bilkul nahi khelna chahiye, aur khelenge bhi nahi, ye main daave ke saath keh sakta hun. (This match should not be played and India won't even play it. I can guarantee this)," he added.
The Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to be played on September 14 in Dubai.
Earlier, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh also stated that Team India should avoid playing against Pakistan as it makes a mockery of the soldiers, who lost their lives.
"They need to understand what is important and what is not. This is as simple as that. For me, the soldier who stands on the border, whose family often doesn't get to see him, who sometimes sacrifices his life and never returns home - their sacrifice is so immense for all of us. Compared to that, this is a very small thing, that we can't skip playing one cricket match. It's a very small matter," Harbhajan had said on Times of India.
"Our government has the same stance, 'Khoon aur paani ek saath nahi beh sakte.' (blood and sweat cannot co-exist). It cannot be the case that there's fighting on the border, tensions between the two nations, and we go to play cricket. Until these big issues are resolved, cricket is a very small matter. The nation always comes first," he added.

The prime minister himself flew a sortie in the trainer variant of the Tejas last year, the first time an Indian leader had flown in a combat aircraft. Indigenous content and future plans The LCA Mark 1A is equipped with upgraded avionics and radar compared with the first 40 Tejas aircraft supplied to the air force. Officials said the new batch will have more than 65% indigenous content. The latest order underscores India's ambitions for self-reliance in defence, with HAL expected to secure further contracts for more than 200 LCA Mark 2 jets and a similar number of the fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft. A urea crisis in Telangana
Urea, a soil nutrient essential for plant growth, has become a political flashpoint between the Central government and the Telangana government. Given short supply, farmers are standing in queues outside fertilizer shops for hours, hoping to secure urea for their crops. While the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are blaming each other for the situation, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is blaming both. In February, the Ministry of Agriculture had allotted five types of fertilizers (urea, di-ammonium phosphate, muriate of potash, complex fertilizers, and single super phosphate) to Telangana. This included 9.8 lakh tonnes of urea for the Kharif season. While there has been little difference between demand and supply of other fertilizers, the gap regarding urea has become an issue. In an official communication, the Central government informed Telangana that it would receive 8.3 lakh tonnes of urea in the April-August period. However, the State received only 5.32 lakh tonnes till August 17. The Minister for Agriculture, Tummala Nageswara Rao, has blamed the Centre for the crisis, stating that it has failed to ensure supply. 'I have written separately to the Union Ministers for Agriculture and Chemicals and Fertilizers to supply the allotted quantity of urea. Officials of the Agriculture Department have also addressed letters to the Union Secretaries of Agriculture and Chemicals and Fertilizers, but in vain,' he said. Mr. Nageswara Rao accused the Centre of misleading Parliament by stating that an ample quantity of urea had been allotted to the State, claiming that it did not provide the supply numbers. Meanwhile the State unit president of the BJP, N. Ramchander Rao, alleged that the State government mismanaged supply. He claimed that the Centre had supplied Telangana more than the required amount. He accused the State administration of diversion, inefficiency, and black marketing. Mr. Ramchander Rao also demanded to know why the problem had cropped up only in Telangana. Mr. Nageswara Rao countered him saying Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Haryana, and Punjab were also facing urea scarcity due to the short supply of both indigenous and imported urea. The Congress also raised the issue in Parliament. While the Congress and the BJP are engaged in a war of words, the BRS has been meeting farmers at fertilizer shops and reminding them that they did not face such hassles during its regime. With the crisis escalating, Mr. Nageswara Rao wrote to the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, requesting him to supply at least 3 lakh tonnes of urea in August in addition to the 0.68 lakh tonnes supplied so far this month. Telangana, like many other States, has not received the required supplies of either the indigenous variety of urea or of the imported variety. Issues in domestic production are due to hurdles in imports of key raw materials and the rise in consumption of the soil nutrient. Issues in imports are due to export restrictions imposed by China. India also imports urea from Oman, Russia, the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Algeria, Egypt and Nigeria, besides China. Imports vary from 15% to 30% of the total based on the local production in a year. India had aimed to end imports of urea by 2025 by enhancing local production. In 2022, the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers said that new plants would be established. However, the goal remains a mirage. The estimated consumption of urea in 2025-26 is about 410 lakh tonnes, with an increase expected due to a rise in Kharif cultivation. Telangana's woes are compounded with problems in the operation of the Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals, where there was no production for 78 days from April due to technical glitches. Of the urea produced in India, Telangana gets most of its supply from the plant, which has a production capacity of 12.7 lakh tonnes per annum. Production of nano urea (liquid) is also yet to be scaled up in the country. Farmers have also not embraced nano urea yet, as it involves additional costs. With reports of China easing restrictions on exports to India, officials are hopeful that there will be no scarcity in the Rabi season. During the Kharif season, however, there is little hope of getting additional supply from overseas or increasing domestic capacity immediately.

‘You'll have to wait for his chance': Ajit Agarkar on Shreyas Iyer's exclusion from Asia Cup squad
Following India's announcement of the Asia Cup squad, chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that Shreyas Iyer did not find a spot in the squad, as we can pick 15 at the moment, and Iyer has to wait for his chance. Iyer ended up as the sixth-highest run-getter in IPL 2025 and had his best season, scoring 604 runs in 17 matches and innings at an average of 50.33, strike rate of 175.07 and six fifties. His best score was 97*. Despite a great IPL season, he missed out on finding a spot in the squad. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named in the reserve players for the Asia Cup. Agarkar, commenting on his exclusion from the 15-member squad, said it's unfortunate, and Abhishek Sharma, alongside his batting, can also bowl, which gives India an extra option. "With regards to Yashasvi, I mean, it's just unfortunate again. You know, there's Abhishek Sharma, what he's done over the last few months or a year or so that he's been with the team, plus that he can bowl a little bit, gives us an option if required by the captain. One of these guys was always going to miss out. It's just unfortunate that Yashasvi might have to wait for his chance," he added. Jaiswal was the back-up opener ahead of Gill for the T20 World Cup last year. He was the backup as India wanted to open with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Having made 723 runs in 23 T20Is with a century and five fifties at a strike rate of over 164 throughout his career, Jaiswal's 559-run IPL 2025 season (in 14 matches with six fifties at SR of almost 160) brought back the leftie into T20I conversations. I think he's been a completely different cricketer post that. He's taken one game at a time. All challenges slow and steady, the way he did in the IPL and also in the domestic tournaments, which he played. The T20S and the one-day, I think he's done really well and he's earned his spot again," Yadav said. Jitesh shone for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) win for the first time this year, scoring 261 runs in 11 innings at an average of 37.28 and a strike rate of 176.35. After the group stage, the tournament will proceed to the Super 4, where the top two teams from each group will qualify. If India finishes at the top of Group A, then all of their Super 4 matches will be held in Dubai. If India finishes second, then one of their Super 4 clashes will be held in Abu Dhabi and the remaining two in Dubai. The Super 4 stage will run from September 20 to 26. Dubai will host the final, which is scheduled for September 28.
