Patole stated, "Modi may be the messiah of BJP and Lonikar, but he cannot be the messiah of farmers."
The former MPCC president was on Tuesday suspended for one day from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for addressing farmer issues. He made the statement outside the House, asserting he had no regrets. "I threw away my Lok Sabha membership for farmers. What is a one-day suspension? I'm ready to give up my MLA post and even my life if it helps farmers," Patole told TOI.
He added that he would continue to rake up many issues related to the farmers in Maharashtra and particularly in Vidarbha daily in the session and continue to fight to ensure justice to them. "This BJP-led govt has forgotten its election promise to wave off farmers loans," he said.
The controversy arose from a recent comment by Lonikar, who claimed that Modi provides everything to farmers, including money for sowing, clothes, and mobile phones.
Patole mocked the statement.
Patole, the Sakoli MLA, further accused the ruling BJP of being fundamentally anti-farmer. "Agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate has repeatedly disrespected farmers — first by comparing them to beggars, then by advising them to use debt relief funds for their children's weddings," he said.
"These people came to power promising loan waivers, minimum support prices, and 24-hour free electricity. Today, they insult the very people they promised to serve. This is arrogance of power," Patole added, demanding public apologies from both Lonikar and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for their party's treatment of farmers.
Despite the suspension from the Assembly, Patole remained defiant. "They can try to silence me as much as they want, but I will not back down from fighting for farmers," he said.

Bihar elections: Tensions in NDA? Jitan Ram Manjhi warns Chirag Paswan over past 'mistakes'
NEW DELHI: Are the NDA allies growing wary of Chirag Paswan? Speculation is swirling after Union minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha chief Jitan Ram Manjhi warned that the Lok Janshakti Party leader would face consequences if he repeated his 2020 assembly poll strategy. Asked whether Chirag was trying to build pressure on the NDA over seat-sharing ahead of the year-end Bihar elections , Manjhi said, "You saw what happened in 2020. He had to face the consequences of what he did. If he does the same again, the outcome will be similar. Bihar now has a double-engine government under Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar." Praising the current NDA administration, Manjhi said progress had been made across sectors including roads, electricity, law and order, and governance. Chirag Paswan, however, chose not to escalate the matter and responded diplomatically: "Jitan Ram Manjhi is like a father to me. Even if he says something harsh, I will accept it with respect. If the Opposition tries to project this as a rift in the alliance, they will fail." The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) used the episode to take a swipe at the NDA. Party MP Manoj Jha said, 'Sometimes they say one thing, sometimes another, and sometimes it's all in gestures—but the intent is clear. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Забрави климатика – това е най-доброто решение срещу жегата Coolbox Научете повече Undo This is their internal matter. The script of such differences is often written in the Delhi darbar.' In the 2020 assembly elections, Chirag Paswan's LJP fielded candidates in 137 seats but won only one. However, by splitting the anti-BJP vote, particularly in JD(U) strongholds, the LJP is widely seen to have contributed to the JD(U)'s poor performance. The BJP ended up winning 74 seats, overtaking JD(U)'s 43, and emerged as the senior partner in Bihar for the first time. The assembly election is scheduled for the end of the year, where a high-stakes battle is expected. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) — consisting of the Janata Dal (United) led by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and the Bharatiya Janata Party — will face off against the Mahagathbandhan, which includes the Congress, RJD, and Left parties.

‘Spit Jihad' must not recur: Uttarakhand CM Dhami issues strict orders ahead of Kanwar Yatra; food hygiene under scanner
Uttarakhand CM Dhami NEW DELHI: Ahead of the annual Kanwar Yatra, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday reviewed preparations in Haridwar and directed officials to prevent any repeat of incidents labelled as "spit jihad", a term controversially used by BJP leaders to describe alleged instances of food tampering during previous yatras. 'Efforts are on to ensure that the Kanwariyas coming to Haridwar return with a good experience. Incidents of 'spit jihad' have happened during the Kanwar Yatra earlier. I have asked officials to ensure they are not repeated,' Dhami told reporters after a high-level review meeting with officials. What is 'Spit Jihad'? The term gained traction after videos emerged in past years showing individuals allegedly spitting into food, one at a roadside dhaba while preparing rotis and another involving a fruit vendor reportedly spitting on apples. These videos triggered outrage and communal tensions, prompting crackdowns in several parts of the country. To counter such incidents, the Uttarakhand government has directed all dhaba, restaurant, hotel, and roadside eatery owners along the Kanwar Yatra route to prominently display their food licenses, with the goal of ensuring hygienic practices and accountability. Yatra guidelines and safety measures The Kanwar Yatra, a two-week-long pilgrimage beginning next week, will see thousands of Shiva devotees from across the country arrive in Haridwar to collect holy Ganga water. While extending a warm welcome to all Kanwariyas, CM Dhami also urged pilgrims to follow the yatra guidelines. 'They shouldn't cause sound pollution by playing loud DJs. They should also keep the Kanwar size within prescribed limits,' he added.
