State govt clears ₹6,499-cr Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur highway
The ambitious ₹6,499.22 crore project will include the construction of a four-lane elevated road and a four-lane at-grade road from Talegaon to Chakan, and a six-lane road from Chakan to Shikrapur.
It is one of the major projects to ease traffic on the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) corridor of Talegaon, Chakan and Shikrapur belt. Maharashtra State Industrial Development Corporation (MSIDC) submitted the Detail Project Report (DPR) to the state cabinet in January.
The 53.2-km corridor will connect National Highway 48 (Mumbai–Pune Highway) with National Highway 753 (Pune–Sambhajinagar Highway), offering an important exit route from Pune city.
The existing two-lane road, which currently carries over 40,800 passenger car units (PCUs) daily, will be expanded to enhance capacity and streamline traffic flow. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared and handed over to the Maharashtra State Industrial Development Corporation (MSIDC), which will execute the project.
In Maval taluka, areas like Malwadi, Indori Bypass, Bhandara Dongar, and Sudha Bridge, and in Khed taluka, places like Mahalunge, Khalumbre, Shel Pimpalgaon, Sablewadi, and Bahul have narrow roads, steep slopes, and dangerous curves. These spots are known to be accident-prone zones.
Speaking on the state's infrastructure focus in this year's budget, finance minister Ajit Pawar has already announced key investments in two major road projects in the Pune district—Pune to Shirur and Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur. Budgetary provisions have been made for the latter, including elevated road sections and major flyovers at key junctions.
One of the senior officials of MSIDC said, ' The project will be implemented either through loan funding or under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will soon be signed between NHAI and the Maharashtra government, followed by the formation of an executive committee to oversee the 30-year concession agreement. Toll revenues collected by MSIDC will fund the maintenance and operations.'
Officials said, 'This road will ease traffic congestion in the area and will enhance direct connectivity to national highways, state roads, and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.'

We are going to change the internal water distribution system of Solapur city for which state govt has approved an Rs 850 crore scheme," he said. The CM lauded the 'Solapur Model' of housing for the weaker sections, saying the quality of the construction is on par with private apartments. "The beneficiaries will have to pay the bank loan equal to what they used to pay as rent in the rented accommodation. In such a way, we have developed the housing schemes for the weaker sections. In the next two years, 30 lakh houses will be ready in Maharashtra and will benefit 1.5 crore people. We will install solar energy units on each housing unit so that the tenants get electricity free of cost. We aim to make 'Beghar Mukt Maharashtra', with every person having a roof over their head," Fadnavis said.

DPR work to begin soon for two key corridors of Chennai Metro Rail
Chennai Metro Rail Project: The preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for two major Chennai Metro Rail corridors will commence soon. Earlier this month, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) awarded consultancy contracts for the DPR of the Corridor 4 extension from Lighthouse to High Court and the proposed Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery corridor. The DPRs will assess alignment options, ridership potential, multimodal integration, and technical feasibility, forming the basis for informed decision-making and future project implementation. This proposed extension of approximately 7 km is planned to enhance metro connectivity along Marina beach and also to secretariat. The corridor will improve access for both daily commuters and tourists, supporting urban mobility. This corridor of approximately 21 km aims to integrate the suburbs of Tambaram, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai, Velachery with Guindy Metro station in the corridor 1 of CMRL. This corridor will facilitate multimodal integration at Tambaram, Medavakkam, Velachery and Guindy. Now, Uber users in Chennai can plan their metro journeys, purchase QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit information – all within the Uber app. For the first time, the CMRL has registered more than One Crore passengers in July, 2025. According to the official release, a total of 1,03,78,835 passengers have travelled in the Metro trains from July 1 to July 31. On July 4, 2025 the CMRL recorded the highest passenger flow per day with 3,74,948 passengers.

State to set up 6 shipyard clusters, eyes ₹6,600-cr investments and 40,000 jobs
MUMBAI: Maharashtra is setting sail on an ambitious plan to boost its maritime sector by developing large-scale marine shipyard clusters along its coastline. The proposed hubs will cater to shipbuilding, repair, recycling, and allied services, and are expected to attract over ₹6,600 crore in investments and create 40,000 jobs by 2030. State to set up six shipyard clusters, eyes ₹ 6,600-cr investments and 40,000 jobs The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), the nodal agency for the sector, has shortlisted six potential coastal locations, with three sites—Nandgaon in Palghar, Dighi in Raigad, and Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg—being evaluated for the first cluster. A consultant will soon be appointed to conduct a detailed techno-economic feasibility study and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR), officials said. 'Through a preliminary assessment, we have identified six potential coastal locations. The consultant will help us determine the most feasible site among the three shortlisted. Based on the findings, we will develop the basic infrastructure and invite private players in shipbuilding and allied industries to set up operations,' said Pradeep P, CEO of MMB. The proposed shipyard at Nandgaon will be the largest, spread across 2,666 acres—including 2,444 acres of land and 225 acres of intertidal zone. The Dighi yard is planned over 2,550 acres, while the Vijaydurg facility will require 1,371 acres. The consultant's mandate will include market and financial analysis, site evaluation, engineering design, and environmental and social impact assessments. The study will also identify potential risks and recommend measures to mitigate them. A senior official from the state fisheries and port department said the government want the consultant to 'incorporate global best practices, comply with national and international standards, and deliver a framework that can attract investments, generate employment, promote indigenous shipbuilding, and position Maharashtra as a maritime hub of global significance.' They have also floated tender for appointing the consultant The initiative follows the state cabinet's approval in April of the Shipbuilding, Ship Repair and Ship Recycling Policy, 2025—the first of its kind in Maharashtra. The policy offers a capital subsidy of 15% of project cost, up to ₹1 crore for skill development per project, and up to ₹25 crore for research and development. It also assures assistance in permits, approvals, and land allocation on concessional terms with 30-year renewable leases. Officials said the government's phased approach will begin with one shipyard cluster. Expansion to other identified sites will be decided based on industry response.
