Key LB target previews decision, will commit on Saturday
Colton Jr. is down to Florida State, the Colorado Buffaloes, and the Ole Miss Rebels. The process hasn't been exactly easy for the Newman, Georgia, product as he explained recently.
"It was fun at first, now it is just hell," Colton Jr. told Adam Munsterteiger of BuffStampede.com. "I am going to be praying a lot; just letting God take me and lead me to the right school. They are three good schools with good coaches. I just want to pray about who is going to develop me and make me ready for the next level.
"I have a family to feed. That's all I'll say. My family - my mom, siblings - and God will help me decide."
Florida State was late in offering Colton Jr., as they didn't extend one until January. He was on campus in April as well for an unofficial visit, and he returned in June for an official visit.
That has allowed Colton Jr. to build a few relationships within the staff. One person in particular has helped FSU in their recruitment of Colton Jr. over the last several months.
"(Special teams coordinator and linebackers) coach (John) Papuchis is just a great guy, just like the rest of them. I have heard he put some guys in the league before, including Ernie Sims. He did everything I want to do."
Speaking of his June visit, Colton Jr. left Tallahassee with the Seminoles as his top choice.
"FSU is my top, I ain't going to lie," Colton Jr. told Noles247. "They beat the school I was looking at. Right now, they're in the lead."
Colton Jr. did take official visits to Ole Miss and Colorado as well in June. So, only time will tell if Florida State did enough to add the blue-chip talent to their linebacker room.

Florida football adds blue-chip ATH Heze Kent to 2026 recruiting haul
It may be the dog days of summer, but Florida football's recruiting efforts remain in high gear. On Saturday, the Gators added four-star athlete Heze Kent out of Brunswick (Georgia) to their 2026 recruiting class. The 6-foot-6-inch, 310-pound prospect chose the Orange and Blue from a list of 38 offers, which included the Florida State Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes and Texas Longhorns, who were included among his top four destinations. Kent's main focus when evaluating various schools was the ability to remain at the tight end position, where he has logged the most time during his prep playing days. However, his size and athleticism make him a great fit on both the offensive and defensive lines — and many programs have noted this — but Florida was among the few who believed in his ability to play tight end. To that point, his relationship with offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Russ Callaway helped seal the deal on his verbal pledge. "That's like a father or a brother to me," Kent told Swamp247. "My coach had told me how he was as a person, like the same person he is on the field is the same person he is off." He also added, "My relationship with Florida is how you see Kyrie (Irving) and LeBron (James)." Heze Kent's Recruiting Summary Kent is ranked No. 149 overall and No. 9 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 158 and 14, respectively.
